Bow Back Rivers

Backwaters of the River Lee, the 'Bow Backs' are London's least-known waterways.

This dense four-mile network of East End waterways is rarely explored by walkers, cyclists or boaters. And, to be fair, the largely unprepossessing surroundings mean this is no great surprise.

But plans are afoot to transform the little-known Bow Back Rivers into a true water city. At the heart of London's proposed Olympic area, and just a short hop from the Stratford International railway station, these waterways are set to become the centrepiece of London's next growth area. The local council is even planning an entirely new 1.5-mile canal.
