If you're not on a narrowboat, walking is one of the best ways to view Britain's canals and rivers. The waterways offer accessible walking routes at all times of the year and are perfect for a 10 minute stroll or an all day hike. Keep checking our events pages for any guided group walks taking place by your local canal or river.

If you have a favourite walking route, you can now share it with us courtesy of our new 'suggest a route' feature. You can also search for routes along your local canal with the 'find a walking route' function in this section.

Our 'Walking in London' page has a number of suggested routes to give you an insight into the capital's waterways and their surroundings and we also have a number of circular walks around the Hatton Flight, which come highly recommended.

To find and share even more routes, visit GPS Walking Routes.
