2012 RNLI PURSUIT RACE

The annual RNLI Pursuit Race held on Bank Holiday Monday was won by Richard Ledger sailing a Dart 18, chased closely by John Cooper and Phil Emery in their Merlins. A big thank you to John Boorman for running the race from a RIB as our old Committee Boat, Slotty Dawes, is no longer. Well done to everyone who took part and helped raise £80.40 for the RNLI. REST IN PEACE SLOTTY DAWES

Sadly our much loved committee boat Slotty Dawes was wrecked on Whitstable beach during Saturday night’s gales having broken free from her mooring. She was washed ashore just beyond the Neptune pub and had broken in two on the groins. Thanks to all club members who turned out on Sunday morning to make the beach safe and to salvage what they could from the wreck. The valuable equipment was transferred to Nick Dewhirsts garden and all movable pieces of the hulls were dragged up the beach beyond the tideline. There was an attempt by the RNLI to winch the two sections of the wreck further up the beach, but unfortunately their Land Rover was unable to get close enough. The local beach patrol also attended the scene to ensure public safety and to advise on the disposal of the wreck. Efforts are being made to clear the wreck from the beach as quickly as possible and then plans will be made for Slotty Dawes replacement.
