Lots in store from RYA Sailability at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012

The Sailability Marina is back

The RYA Sailability team along with a number of class associations who work with disabled sailors, will be exhibiting at the popular Sailability Marina at this year’s RYA Volvo Dinghy Show, held over the weekend of 3-4 March in Alexandra Palace, London.

From the Sailability boats to brand new equality training, the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show has everything you need to know about RYA Sailability whether it’s how to start your own group or advice on how to become a volunteer, or find out where to start sailing.

The Sailability Marina in the Panorama Hall will be proudly displaying five disability classes including the Access Dinghy, Challenger, Trimaran, Artemis 20, the 2.4mR and the Paralympic Skud 18.

Meet the RYA Sailability Team and representatives from all the classes that work with disabled sailors and volunteers who will be available throughout the weekend to share their expert knowledge of the boats and to answer any of your questions.

For those clubs and centre’s looking to develop a greater understanding of discrimination and equality, don’t miss the opportunity to take a look at the RYA’s brand new Equality Training videos which will be exclusively launched at the show.

The series of case study clips are entitled ‘What if I…” and cover a range of subjects including age, gender and disability.   “Whether you’re an instructor or volunteer, we have tried to present situations that are similar to those which you may encounter and suggest some solutions to the challenges that arise” explains RYA Sailability Manager Debbie Blachford.

“No situation will be identical to the ones we have illustrated in the training, but we hope that the clips will help people to gain a deeper understating of the ways in which you can give everyone a good, welcoming service and avoiding causing any upset and falling foul of the law” .

RYA Equality Training videos will be played on demand on the RYA stand (Panorama Hall) so why not join the team for a glass of bubbly and find out how the equality training could benefit your club or centre.

Finally, drop by the RYA Sailability Trust stand (B16) in the Great Hall and pick up a raffle ticket to be in for a chance to win a Merlin Rocket.

The boat will be on display throughout the show and the winning ticket will be drawn after the Southampton Boat Show in September. All money raised will be used to support opportunities for disabled people to go sailing.

RYA Sailability works to encourage and support people with disabilities to take up the sport and help club and centres develop sailing opportunities.
