Sailing Week

Dartmouth Week is run by the Joint Regatta Sailing Committee on behalf of the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta Committee. They do so with the full support of both yacht clubs on the River Dart, the Royal Dart Yacht Club and the Dartmouth Yacht Club. You will receive a warm welcome at both clubs.

Dartmouth Sailing Week Regatta Information

The Regatta sailing event is now called Dartmouth Week in the sailing world because it spans two whole weekends. It starts with four days of dinghy racing based at Dittisham starting the Saturday before the official Regatta, followed by five days of yacht racing starting with the traditional Passage Race from Torbay to Dartmouth on the Wednesday of Regatta Week. The dinghy racing is based on Dittisham Sailing Club and racing takes place every day for several hours either side of high water. It can be seen from the Ham at Dittisham or walk along the foreshore to the club and watch from there.

The Offshore events start on the Wednesday of Regatta week with the Passage Race which is always popular and many Dartmouth yachts sail round to Torbay in the morning, have lunch, and then race back to Dartmouth with the yachts coming to the Dartmouth Regatta. This is followed by four days of highly competitive yacht racing in Start Bay on three separate courses for IRC yachts (the serious racers), PY yachts (mostly cruising yachts who like to race occasionally) and an inshore course for small cruisers and day boats.

The sight of about 250 yachts racing in Start Bay on three separate courses is spectacular and worth a walk along the Coastal Path, or just sit at Blackpool Sands and watch but take your camera with you. Racing starts every day at 11 am and generally lasts for 3 to 4 hours.
