168 years, going on 190

The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta has always celebrated the number of actual Regattas that have been held, which this year will be the 168th.

Following recent correspondence with our Royal Patron, HRH The Duke of York, and the fact that our first recorded Regatta was in 1822, the Committee have unanimously decided that this year we will be Celebrating the 190th Anniversary of the Dartmouth Regatta.

BAS IS LOOKING FOR THREE PENGUINS!

Can YOU help us find the Three Penguins Team?

Last year the Dartmouth Regatta featured for the very first time Water Polo as an event.

For local people with good memories they will be well aware that in the 1950's Water Polo in the Boat Float was a most popular sport, with Dartmouth having an excellent Team. When Doug Litt from the Devon Water Polo Association contacted Basil and asked if there was an opportunity for Water Polo to be added to the sporting events, there was no hesitation in saying yes. The event proved to be a huge success with an excellent crowd watching the matches, the tuition and taster sessions provided.

Waiters, Waitresses and an Ostrich

Last year, presenters Ed Petrie and Barnie Harwood came to Dartmouth to compete in our very own famous and prestigious Waiters and Waitresses race.

The pair took on locals hungry for the coveted prize whilst filming for the CBBC programme 'All Over the Place'. They faced stiff competition, and sadly the exertion proved too much for Petrie, who succumbed to thirst and drank his coke earning himself a disqualification. Roxanne Clarke, proudly representing the Station Restaurant as an Ostrich took first place, and was also awarded the best-dressed prize.
