Britain's canals and rivers are packed with museums, leisure attractions and heritage structures which make great destinations for a day out.

Whether you're looking to go for an impromptu day trip with the family or you're planning where to go on your holiday, waterscape can help.
There are a number of dedicated canal museums, including the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port, which are well worth a visit. Far from being dull and dusty, these museums hold many events and craft days for everyone to enjoy.

The waterways are also full of free places to go. There are plenty of historic structures like the Caen Hill Flight and Anderton Boat Lift to explore, or if you're looking for something more modern take a look at the Falkirk Wheel or the redeveloped Gas Street Basin.

You can make use of our search tool on this page to find a place to go near you or you can browse the waterways and select 'places to go' from the menu on the right.
