The New Cut. © David Medcalf - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/

2.5 miles long, the Haddiscoe New Cut is an artificial channel connecting the Rivers Yare and Waveney and offered an alternative route via Lowestoft for vessels trading between Norwich and the North Sea. It is tidal throughout.

The cut was intended to attract trade to Lowestoft at the expense of its rivals but was not a great commercial success. It is completely straight and accompanied by a railway track on its western side. Mooring is prohibited.
