Entries are now open online for the RYA Eric Twiname Youth and Junior Team Racing Championship 2011, which are set to descend on Oxford Sailing Club, Farmoor Reservoir, on the weekend of the 15 – 16 October 2011.
It was a hat-trick for West Kirby Sailing Club’s under 19 team racers this weekend (16-17 October) as they lifted the youth trophy for the third year running and the curtain came down on the 2010 RYA Eric Twiname Team Racing Champions, Farmoor Reservoir, Oxford. The under 16 Junior title was won by ‘Bluefin’ a new champion team for 2010 comprising a mixture of Optimist sailors from Burghfield, Cardiff Bay and Penarth.
Team racing is an exciting and sociable sailing format in which a team of sailors work together to try and establish an overall winning combination for their team over their opposition. Team races are fast and furious and reward good starting, boat speed, boat handling, rules knowledge and team work skills. This guide will provide a valuable insight.
Campers are not allowed overnight at Farmoor. The closest site, some 4-5 miles away just on the southern outskirts of Oxford a Camping and Caravanning Club site.
The Eric Twiname Memorial Trust is a great supporter of junior and youth sailing initiatives and works in partnership with the RYA. As well as supporting each of our pathway classes with an ET rib, they also support the RYA Eric Twiname Championship held at Rutland. This premier national event for Juniors (under 16 year olds) is substantially financed by the Trust. It is one of the largest sailing events in the calendar for zone/home country teams in Optimists, Cadets, Toppers, Mirrors dinghies and Bic Techno Windsurfers.
