Symptom

A symptom (from Greek σύμπτωμα, "accident, misfortune, that which befalls", from συμπίπτω, "I befall", from συν- "together, with" and πίπτω, "I fall") is a departure from normal function or feeling which is noticed by a patient, reflecting the presence of an unusual state, or of a disease. A symptom is subjective, observed by the patient, and cannot be measured directly, whereas a sign is objectively observable by others. For example, paresthesia is a symptom (only the person experiencing it can directly observe their own tingling feeling), whereas erythema is a sign (anyone can confirm that the skin is redder than usual). Symptoms and signs are often nonspecific, but often combinations of them are at least suggestive of certain diagnoses, helping to narrow down what may be wrong. In other cases they are specific even to the point of being pathognomonic.

The term is sometimes also applied to physiological states outside the context of disease, as for example when referring to "symptoms of pregnancy".

Symptoms (song)

"Symptoms" (Hangul: 상사병; RR: Sangsabyeong) is a K-Pop song of slow jam music genre performed by the South Korean idol group Shinee. It is included as the second track in their fifth EP, Everybody, which was released digitally on October 14, 2013 under the record label of S.M. Entertainment and distributing label of KMP Holdings. It was chosen as one of the two lead singles for the promotional cycle, other one being the title track "Everybody".

Background

The domestic music portal site Naver Music described "Symptoms" to be belonging from the slow jam music genre with an influence from Shinee's signature contemporary R&B style. The song was composed and arranged by the international music production team The Underdogs in their first collaboration with Shinee. It also marked their debut in the Korean pop music industry. The lyrics of the piece were penned by Shinee's lead vocalist Kim Jonghyun.

Lyric video

On October 4, 2013, SM Town's official YouTube channel unveiled a music video containing only the lyrics for the song. This was ten days ahead of the actual release of the song.

Symptoms (film)

Symptoms is a 1974 British horror film directed by José Ramón Larraz. It was entered into the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. Although circulated privately through bootlegs, the original prints were for many years missing, and was last shown on British television in 1983. In February 2016 it was announced that with the help of the British Film Institute, they had been obtained and the film would be released on DVD.

Plot

A young woman is invited by her girlfriend, who lives in an English country mansion, to stay there with her. The estate, however, isn't quite what it seems, and neither is the friend who issued the invitation.
