Criminal (band)

Criminal is a Chilean-British thrash metal band which formed in late 1991 in Santiago by Anton Reisenegger (guitar and vocals) and Rodrigo Contreras (lead guitar). Later they were joined by J.J. Vallejo on drums and Juan Francisco Cueto as bassist, completing the original lineup. The band incorporates elements of thrash metal, death metal, groove metal and hardcore. They later moved to Colchester, England.

The band received international attention with their second studio album, Dead Soul, released in 1997. Their next release, Sicario, established them as a known band in Europe and received good reviews.

Criminal has released seven studio albums, two live albums, and two demos. They will release their eighth album, entitled Fear Itself, on March 11, 2016.

History

In late 1991 Reisenegger Anton joined Rodrigo Contreras to start a new thrash metal band: Criminal. Anton was already known in the local underground scene, and had received recognition by bands like Napalm Death and Dismember. The latter band had played with Rodrigo Contreras before.

+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an American indietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.

!!! is a dance-punk band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 1996 by lead singer Nic Offer. Its name is most commonly pronounced "Chk Chk Chk" ([/tʃk.tʃk.tʃk/]). Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.

Background and history

!!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the group Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.

Criminal is an ongoing American creator-owned crime comic book series by writer Ed Brubaker with artist Sean Phillips published by Marvel Comics' Icon imprint.

The series is a meditation on the clichés of the crime genre while remaining realistic and believable.

Publication history

The series began in October 2006, and ran for 10 issues.

Criminal was relaunched in February 2008 with a new #1, and an expanded format. After 7 issues, it went on hiatus and was relaunched again in October 2009 as volume three, subtitled The Sinners. However, as stated on the podcast Word Balloon, Brubaker does not consider the renumbering to be a relaunch but instead to represent each arc as being its own story. Following Incognito, each arc of Criminal will be renumbered and arcs will be broken up by other projects co-created by Brubaker and Phillips. The fourth volume, Last of the Innocents began in May 2011 and ran for four issues.

In 2015, a Criminal: Savage one-shot, available in a standard comic size and special edition magazine size, was released through Image Comics. A new one shot has been announced for sometime in 2016.

Criminal is a 2005 Bengali film directed by Shankar Ray and produced by Debendra Kuchar. The film features actors Prosenjit Chatterjee, Rachana Banerjee, Swastika Mukherjee, Ranjit Mallick, Rajesh Sharma in the lead roles. Music of the film has been composed by Anupam Dutta.
