INDYCAR
The Indy Racing League, or INDYCAR, is an American-based auto racing sanctioning body for Championship auto racing. The organization sanctions four racing series: the premier IndyCar Series (often abbreviated ICS) with its centerpiece Indianapolis 500, and developmental series Indy Lights, the Pro Mazda Championship and the U.S. F2000 National Championship, which are all a part of The Road To Indy.
The trade name INDYCAR was officially adopted on January 1, 2011.
INDYCAR is owned by Hulman & Company, which also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway complex and the Clabber Girl brand.

IndyCar Series
The League's premier series was named the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series in 2003. In 2013, IZOD announced that they would be leaving the series. Verizon took over as title sponsor in 2014, and the name became the Verizon IndyCar Series.
The series initially raced exclusively on oval tracks, as the series was founded partly in response to the increasing prominence of road and street courses on the CART schedule. In 2005, the series abandoned its unofficial ovals-only stance, and added three road–street course events. By 2009, the series had a roughly 50/50 split of ovals and road/street courses. Presently, the series currently runs one-third of its schedule on ovals and the rest on road and street circuits.

2009 IndyCar Series season
The 2009 IndyCar Series season was the 14th season of the IndyCar Series. The 17-race season began on April 5, and its premier event, the 93rd Indianapolis 500 was held May 24. All races were broadcast on ABC or Versus in high-definition. It represented the 98th recognized season of top-level American open wheel racing.
On July 30, 2008 the 2009 schedule for the IndyCar Series was officially released. New to the schedule were Long Beach and Toronto, with Nashville having been removed to make way for the new events.
Dario Franchitti won his second IndyCar Series championship, putting a disappointing foray into NASCAR in 2008 behind him. Franchitti took his Chip Ganassi Racing Dallara-Honda to victory at Long Beach, Iowa Speedway, Toronto and Infineon Raceway in a season long battle with his Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon and Team Penske driver Ryan Briscoe. Dixon led the series heading into the final round, but Franchitti's win at the series finale at Homestead pushed the British driver eleven points clear at season's end.

The Indy Racing League, or INDYCAR, is an American-based auto racing sanctioning body for Championship auto racing. The organization sanctions four racing series: the premier IndyCar Series (often abbreviated ICS) with its centerpiece Indianapolis 500, and developmental series Indy Lights, the Pro Mazda Championship and the U.S. F2000 National Championship, which are all a part of The Road To Indy.
The trade name INDYCAR was officially adopted on January 1, 2011.
INDYCAR is owned by Hulman & Company, which also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway complex and the Clabber Girl brand.

IndyCar Series
The League's premier series was named the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series in 2003. In 2013, IZOD announced that they would be leaving the series. Verizon took over as title sponsor in 2014, and the name became the Verizon IndyCar Series.
The series initially raced exclusively on oval tracks, as the series was founded partly in response to the increasing prominence of road and street courses on the CART schedule. In 2005, the series abandoned its unofficial ovals-only stance, and added three road–street course events. By 2009, the series had a roughly 50/50 split of ovals and road/street courses. Presently, the series currently runs one-third of its schedule on ovals and the rest on road and street circuits.
