The Adventure of Jason and the Argonauts from the Argonautica
Jason is a mythological Greek hero who is best known for his journey with the Argonauts in search of the golden fleece. Aboard the ship the Argo (which is where the term Argonauts comes from), Jason and his men travelled to Kolchis on the Black Sea from Iolkos in Thessaly to retrieve the golden fleece, which is the hide of what was once a flying ram with gold hair, and he gets into a number of adventures on his journey. Jason is aided by Medea, who was made to fall in love with Jason, and who used her skills in magic to help him succeed in his quest and then returns home with him. The journey of Jason may reflect historical expeditions the Mycenaeans made in the thirteenth century BCE as they travelled and explored lands to the east of the Greek world.

083: Hellenistic Literature - Apollonius of Rhodes and the "Argonautica"
The “Argonautica”, written by the third century poet Apollonius of Rhodes, is the only surviving epic poem from the Hellenistic period. Recounting the travels of the hero Jason and his crew of Argonauts as they searched for the Golden Fleece, Apollonius managed to pay homage to the works of Homer while also reinventing the genre to better reflect the scholarship coming out of Alexandria.

The myth of Jason, Medea, and the Golden Fleece - Iseult Gillespie
Follow Jason as he attempts to steal the Golden Fleece from King Aeetes and enlists the help of the king's daughter, Medea. (Part Two of the myth of Jason and the Argonauts)
--
In Colchis, the hide of a mystical flying ram hangs from the tallest oak, guarded by a dragon who never sleeps. The only way Jason can pry it from King Aeetes’ clutches and win back his promised throne is by facing three perilous tasks— without the help of the Argonauts. Unbeknownst to the king, his daughter Medea was plotting something. Iseult Gillespie shares the myth of the Golden Fleece.

THE ARGONAUTICA - Jason, The Argonauts & The Golden Fleece by Apollonius Rhodius - FULL Audio Book | Greatest AudioBooks - The Argonautica (also Argonautika) (Greek: Ἀργοναυτικά) is a Greek epic poem written by Apollonius Rhodius in the 3rd century BC. The only surviving Hellenistic epic, the Argonautica tells the myth of the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts to retrieve the Golden Fleece from remote Colchis. Their heroic adventures and Jason's relationship with the Colchian princess/sorceress Medea were already well known to Hellenistic audiences, which enabled Apollonius to go beyond a simple narrative, giving it a scholarly emphasis suitable to the times. It was the age of the great Library of Alexandria and his epic incorporates his researches in geography, ethnography, comparative religion and Homeric literature. However, his main contribution to the epic tradition lies in his development of the love between hero and heroine -- he seems to have been the first narrative poet to study "the pathology of love". His Argonautica had a profound impact on Latin poetry. It was translated by Varro and imitated by Valerius Flaccus. It influenced Catullus and Ovid and it provided Virgil with a model for his Roman epic, the Aeneid. (Summary adapted from wiki)

Lesson by Iseult Gillespie, directed by Jordan Bruner.
