Dōkyūsei

Dōkyūsei (同級生, lit. classmates) is the first game in the popular Dōkyūsei series of eroge dating sims by ELF Corporation. The original Dōkyūsei (also called Nanpa, meaning pick-up, due to its batch file name "nanba.bat"), released in 1992.

OVA

There was an OVA series made from Dōkyūsei, which was originally a 45-minute one-shot, but the original release was expanded into two half-hour episodes, with two more episodes added, for a total four. The first two episodes were released as End of Summer, and episodes three and four were released as End of Summer 2 in the North American market by SoftCel Pictures, an imprint of ADV Films. A two-episode sequel, entitled Dōkyūsei Climax Files, was also released.

End of Summer is about a boy who seeks after a redheaded girl named Mai and along the way runs into difficulties (and trysts) with several other girls, namely, Kurumi, Miho, Misa, and Satomi. It was renowned for its romantic attributes and quality of animation. The depth of character development has been reviewed as being above average, although the format forced on it by OVA requires some compromises with realism. The film has some classical music.

Nanpa

Nanpa (ナンパ), also transliterated as nampa, in Japanese culture is a type of flirting and seduction popular among teenagers and people in their twenties and thirties. When Japanese women pursue men in a fashion similar to nanpa, it is called gyakunan (ギャクナン).

Etymology

Nanpa was a new word of the Meiji era with the opposite word Kouha. It was originally　rendered in kanji as 軟派 (lit. "the soft school"). The meaning of nanpa was continuely changing and different from what it means today. Initially, it referred to a political term with the meaning of "parties with soft opinion and proposition" or "people who are unable to claim a strong opinion" (1892), then it referred to "departments or reporters who are responsible for the articles of glossy things like social or literary in newspapers and magazines" (1901), eventually it meant "a faction of the youth who are enjoying pursuit of the opposite sex and fine clothing" (1909). In general, it means people interested more in fun and self-indulgence than in "hard" pursuits like politics, academia, or athletics. In contemporary Japanese culture, nanpa most often refers to "girl hunting" and there is a strong negative connotation associated with it.
