Why the Federal Reserve Controls So Much of the Economy | WSJ
The Federal Reserve is central to the U.S. economy today, and it’s controlled by just 12 people. Its monetary policies can lower inflation or even spark a recession. The central bank says it’s dedicated to achieving its goals set by Congress to maximize employment and maintain price stability, but some of its decisions like raising interest rates are not always popular with Americans.
WSJ explains how the Fed became the power it is today and why it plays such a major role in the country.

In this video Heimler walks you through Unit 2 Topic 12 (2.12) of the AP Government curriculum which is an introduction to the federal bureaucracy. The executive branch of the government is responsible for executing the laws passed by Congress, and in order to do so, it employs millions of people in the bureaucracy.
Laws are often vague and it's up to the bureaucratic departments, agencies, and commissions to make the rules more concrete. We'll talk more about the bureaucracy's rule making authority in another video.
For this video, we just talk about how the bureaucracy works, the way it interacts with other government entities (in the form of iron triangles), and how the process for getting a job in the bureaucracy has changed over time (civil service reform). On the last topic, we consider the spoils system, the Pendleton Civil Service Act, and the more recent Civil Service Reform Act.
