Beverly or Beverley was at one time commonly a masculine given name but is now almost exclusively a feminine name. It is derived from an English surname, which was in turn taken from the place name, Beverley. The placename derives from Old English, combining the words befer "beaver" and leah "clearing".
Beverly is a historic home located at Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2 1⁄2-story, Federal-style, Flemish bond brick dwelling measuring 40 feet by 60 feet. It was built by Nehemiah King II between 1785 and 1796. The interior of the house was partially destroyed by fire in 1937 but was restored from plans.
The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
King became a friend of Jérôme Bonaparte through his marriage in 1803 to Betsy Patterson of Baltimore. The home was included in a plot to rescue Napoleon from exile on St. Helena Island, when plans were made for the Emperor to be transported up the Chesapeake Bay and into the Manokin River, where he was to arrive at Beverly through a tunnel leading under the house from the nearby creek. Napoleon died before the rescue was attempted.
Beverly is a Brooklyn-based band that formed in 2013. They began recording their debut LP, Careers, in 2013 and finished in early 2014. It was released on July 1, 2014 on Williamsburg-based Kanine Records.
Beverly consists of Frankie Rose and Drew Citron, luminaries of the Brooklyn indie music scene. Rose is a former member of Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls and Dum Dum Girls, while Citron is a former member of Avan Lava. They released their first single, "Honey Do" on Gorilla vs. Bear on February 10, 2014 and it was quickly picked up by other notable music blogs such as Pitchfork Media. The track was featured on Kanine Records' Record Store Day Compilation "Non Violent Femmes".
Beverly packs her lunch pail silently
In the light of the dawn's gray gloom
In her lonely room
Beverly works all day at the factory
On her feet from five to nine
On the assembly line
Beverly drifts away into a reverie
Dreaming of the girl she used to be
When her heart was alive
And there were nights
When Beverly would go out dancing
The stars lit up the Latin sky
Her eyes would flash, her feet would fly
Across the ballroom floor
En una linda noche nosotros bailamos
Dancamos hasta no ver mas las estrellas
Un gran amor - esto fue el pasado
Beverly goes about her way so quietly
And though she cries a little bit
No one seems to notice it
