Banning front facing camera phones.

Hello, IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Banning front facing camera phones.

I had a user today at work ask me why does an iPhone front facing camera randomly flash in random intervals. I told him that it doesn’t do that and he then tells me to check out our security camera footage.

Through the security camera, I could see another user on their phone, with the phone screen facing the camera. Randomly the front facing camera would flash. You couldn’t see it without the camera.

I jokingly said that’s how everyone tracks you. Oh god I regret saying that joke. (I know it’s FaceID).

Now this user wants to ban all front facing camera phones from our org. Good luck trying to explain to our C suite level people why they can’t bring their iPhones into work.

Graduated last year and I’ve been solo-developing a roguelike instead of looking for a job, my applications were constantly getting rejected and entry level position requirements were actually insane. So I decided to work for a company that actually cares about me, my self.

Hey there,

A buddy of mine that I've worked with for a long time is a super talented front end developer. Like... He goes on vacation from coding to code stuff like this. (In fact he's on vacation right now and sent me this).

I go on vacation and watch 90's movies... this is what he does:

We both work for a Pulitzer Prize winning media company and are paid with web ads... this is his genius observation on advertising powered blog posts.

Give him some love.... he's literally the best web developer I've ever worked with. Hopefully you'll appreciate this as much as I did and see it for the art it is. :)

Totally burned out FAANG engineer looking for advice

Basically I’m not sure what I want to be when I grow up. I’ve got 8.5 years of XP, done front end web dev work, robotics, and now backend web dev at FAANG. I’m totally burnt out, completely uninterested in my work, and basically just coasting. I’m not sure what to do next. I don’t think I want more web dev, wouldn’t mind going back to robotics work but there’s none in my area. I’ve been looking at cyber security roles now just to maybe do something different, but I feel like this is probably a mistake.

Shouldn’t I start specializing in something so I can gain the technical depth needed for higher level roles? After a few years I’m always super bored, I just can’t keep doing the same things day in day out. What sort of software engineer should I be so I can have interesting and challenging work to keep me motivated? My life outside work is decent, it’s definitely the work itself that’s the issue.
