My junior asked the management to take my position

Be ware of people who you work with or help, I used to help my 1 level junior to perform duties which are new to him. This junior delivers lower than a fresher, today I planned to meet this guy and create a growth plan and I got to know he requested the leadership to replace me, fortunately the org asked him to perform better in his current role or leave the org in a week.

I just found a "hacked" version of my own game online. But that's not the funny thing

Some years ago I developed a simple html5 game, a city builder where you could manage a sort of a flying fortress. Today I wanted to check on google if the game was still appearing on the search engine: the first two results were the page I made and the itch.io page, but the third one was from some portal called "arcadeprehacks".

The name of the page is "[name of the game] Hacked" and it appears that some guy downloaded the source code, added cheat codes for free ingame resources and uploaded the result on this website along with hundreds of other "hacked" indie games.

The funny thing is the plays counter showing 7000 plays less or more, while the original game itself has less than a hundred based on the itch.io dashboard info. Am I this bad at marketing? Or maybe the plays counter on the hacked one is entirely made up?

Juniors using chatGPT are driving me insane

Zero critical thinking. I have a few people who have faked their way into roles and am now stuck with them, unable to do any work that requires more than a minute of thinking. Is this happening everywhere? All I get is copy/paste output from chatGPT for the most basic questions and it makes me fear about where we're going as a society with all this dumb shit and individuals that AI is creating

Beware of small companies that register themselves in America as a start-up but would operate in India only to exploit you.

Beware of small companies that register themselves in America as a start-up but would operate in India only to exploit you.

Unfortunately I was on PIP and I didn't even know , they hired me and said I have probation of 3 months then they Day probation was about to end , they just sent me an email that they are increasing it to more 3 months, they wanted to get a certification so I got that too in probation , after which my salary was supposed to increase but they said increased salary doesn't come in probation and then they again increased my probation , this happened for 9 months until one random day they scheduled meeting to tall to me and I thought they are doimg it just to take update on my code but I was told that I was being removed and the will give me extra salary for 2 months.
I recorded that call because that small company's manager was unnecessarily being mean and director was there too , and the manager, when caught red-handed, started getting angry.

Things I hated -

  1. They actually wrote a terrible terrible termination letter for me , as if it was some personal grudge of the manager with me.

  2. While hiring they told me it's an American startup, the director guy who interviewd me was an old white guy , but in the joining letter they mentioned some Indian unknown company that is named after sole India guy who lives in America. They did this solely to hire Indian cheap devs , which is why when I joined the developer team had only 2 more developers and who were much more experienced than me and 2 Indian Admin guy and one HR who was indian and rest of the team was hired from America , so they were all Americans. They just hired me and some others for cheap labour , the CEO was some Indian American and would speak to me in some very very very fake and forced American accent XD . He was absolutely useless.

  3. While filling the online timesheets I was called out for filling 8hours in a day , which the manager had told Me. Later the director that white guy who took my interview said to me that you're supposed to work for 9 hours not 8 and then in addition to that tale 1 hour of break .

  4. During the very first say of Interview I told them that I am NOT A SALESFORCE DEVELOPER , I told them my forte backend , C#/.NET/.NET Core and in Front-end I have experience in Angular.js , JavaScript. They took my basic knowledge interview In JS and asked me to create a tree in JS which I did. That nasty manager after my project submission told the interviewer guy that thus candidate has Done it wrong. They connected with Me and turns out that the manager didn't even explain the requirements properly in the interview project question , so what I had done was right according to the explanation. So my code was accepted but I think that manager despised me from that interview stage itself and it was the other white person who liked me so I got hired. That interviewer guy told me that you can take your time to learn Salesforce , and literally after 2 weeks of joining the manager gave me very very tough tasks and all they did was to pressurise me. The person who hired me was the director , that white guy , he tried to help me a little bit but the way this manager conspired things were disdainful. He I think went directly to that nasty India CEO dude and they both just fired me , without even warning me .

  5. It was a night shift job and I was fine with it , but it affected my health a lot and all that toxic environment gave me severe anxiety that I am suffering from till date and trying to recover. The daily stress and anxiety I had to go through because of that manager , who would give me tough tasks and would not even connect with me for days and when I would submit my code he would say it's all wrong , when u would reach our for advice while working he would barely connect.

  6. This manager was supped to take training classes of me and one already new developer but he took only 3 out of 15 and blamed me saying that she was late 1 Day so she is not serious.

This company and the people there were absolutely trash and useless .

I am a very hardworking person who is genuinely passionate about coding, so much that I would code non stop in Covid times for 12-15 hours daily just to upskill myself and when I had a job even then I would invest most of my time in coding and learning and making projects and getting better at my skills .

I kept asking them for relieving letter but they never sent it to me and gave excuse that I am supposed to discuss some task with HR , but there was judging like that and I never received my reliveing letter just a very bad termination letter.

It is about to be 1 year since this incident , I am still applying for jobs , but I feel relieved but sharing my experience.

Please be wary of such companies and don't join them no matter what they pay you.

I should've turned down the offer when I saw that they lied about their name and I will be working for Indian company named after some Indian guy. Where nobody works and everybody is just calling themselves working in an American startup up what a joke.

EDIT - Everyone is saying that I am not telling the name of the company but as I said they had only 2 developers working for them before me, Total company size is not even 12 people so I was the very first victim , plus I have given details of the flow of events and told how many months I was on probation etc. so too many details are there to out me already. I don't want to be sued by them because emotionally and financially I am not in a position to face all that, and it is a very small company. Hence I am not revealing the name publicly. Please don't shame me or judge me on that.

Also I have mentioned patterns that people can be aware of , especially who aren't very much experienced , such as -

  1. Very small company , with only developers from India

  2. False company name

  3. Deliberately increasing probabtion

  4. Bad interview experience

I know it seems like a stupid and basic question but I genuinely can’t wrap my head around it. It’s like a threshold concept that I haven’t learned, I’m not really sure how to describe it but I don’t understand how you’d go from writing code in the ide (with the basic stuff like for loops and print statements) to creating big things. Like I just don’t understand it

Going to bomb a leetcode interview in an hour :(

I lucked out and got an interview with a FAANG company. I have 20 years of programming experience but zero leet code experience. I should have turned it down, I was recruited, I didn’t apply so I went sure why not….but here I am freaking out over the impending embarrassment. 😭 what am I suppose to do for he 1 hour assessment besides just stare blankly at the screen and saying I have no idea. Why did I do this to myself 😆. Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you get through the horror?

Update: Thank you all for your support. So nice knowing that I’m not the only one who’s gone into an interview feeling less than prepared. The interviewer was super nice. I didn’t do great but didn’t completely bomb it at least. There’s no way I’m moving forward to the next step but that’s ok. I know what I need to do now. ❤️❤️❤️

Also to anyone else who suffers from pre interview anxiety this little video helped me out https://youtu.be/6n8i7ua0mSw?si=0sAzcLcxuNwypaOS
