VS Code Arduino is being deprecated?!

What the title says. I just saw the announcement in VS code: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-arduino/blob/main/README.md

A quick git blame shows that the warning was added about 10 days ago. This is breaking my heart. Is there a community effort to keep it alive? It's probably going to keep working for quite a while but at some point in the future, things are bound to break, or Microsoft could pull it out of extension store.

Let's face it, Arduino IDE is just a glorified notepad. I use it when I need to write a quick sketch of 20 lines that I don't even care to save after done. For anything meaningful work, VS code is indispensable.

Cross-Protocol repeater nodes???

is there a way to program a node so that it will listen in on the Long-Fast "protocol" , and when it comes to retransmitting the message, instead of retransmitting in Long-Fast, it transmits in Long-Very slow , This way it would be easyer to build long repeater bridges, for example, I could connect 2 cities 300km apart, by placing nodes on top of mountains between the 2 cities, but to maximize reliability, it would be best to transmit with the slowest protocol possible, so it would be great if there was a way for the module itself to translate the message in long-very slow, and then , after it bounces through 2 or 3 other long-veryslow nodes that I also placed, the last node translates it back to Long-Fast , and it gets re-transmitted into the mesh at the new town

Also, would be great if there was a way to have a transmit antenna and a receive antenna, separate , so that one could use 2 directional antennas, to pick up a signal one way and retransmit it in another direction, I imagine this is a lot harder to implement this would be a hardware feature, but the first idea is purely software !
