Megathread: Vice President Harris Accepts the 2024 Democratic Nomination for President

Tonight, during the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention, VP Harris formally accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for US president. This comes just a month after President Biden, the previous presumptive nominee, dropped out of the race and threw his support behind Harris, rallying the rest of the party behind her such that over 99% of committed delegates heading into the convention were pledged to Harris.

Older cousin used me as a "free" maid for months, so I asked her mom for a pot

My dad recently reminded me of this story so I thought I'd share it here. It's truly not a big deal but I smile whenever I think about it.

When I was a young teenager (maybe 13) I had an older cousin with a small child. She lived in a basement apartment under her parents with her boyfriend and the kid. She called me to babysit for her one weekend and I, being a young teen was stoked for the money and just to get out of the house if I'm being honest. I was homeschooled and wasn't allowed to watch tv or do much at home.

I want over, and her and the boyfriend left. Kiddo and I played for a bit before he said he was hungry. When I went into the kitchen to feed him, every dish in the place was dirty, pizza boxes stacked a mile high, just truly gross all around. I cleaned the kitchen, as I didn't want to cook in such a mess.

After that this became a weekly thing. Every Saturday my cousin would get me to babysit, there wouldn't be a single clean dish in the house, and I'd clean before I started cooking. This went on for months until I finally said something to my Dad. Basically the conversation went like this;

Me: do I need to go to Ella's this weekend, I don't feel good and I don't want to clean her house.

Dad: why would you clean her house?

Me: explains the state of the place every week

Dad: yeah, your not doing that anymore. You go over there tonight like every other time, but when it's time to make dinner go around to your aunt's house (cousins mom) and ask her for a pot and some plates. Tell her you can't cook kiddo dinner because there aren't any clean dishes in the house.

So that's exactly what I did. Never got asked to babysit again. 🤣

Edit to add: I'm so sorry to everyone who came here hoping for a weed story!

I work at Costco. We hate the scanner door policy more than you do.

Members are irate about being mildly inconvenienced at the door by having to prove they are a member at a MEMBERS ONLY store.

Members are irate about Costco trying to stop people from account sharing (which is one reason prices and membership costs are going up).

Members are irate about not being allowed to use a CLEARLY marked EXIT as an entrance.

Members are irate because Costco has policies that they AGREED to when they joined, which are being enforced.

Ok. I could go on. A bunch of you are mad.

Now, imagine being the low level employee at the door that is instructed to enforce those policies.

Imagine the abuse that YOU, the public, has subjected them to.

Calling them slurs. Getting in their faces. Swearing at them. Threatening them. Assaulting them. Spitting on them. Complaining to them.

That smiling face at the door is a low level employee trying to do their job. They don't make policies. They have NO influence.

Yet they face abuse and mistreatment at the hands of the general public daily.

I've seen coworkers reduced to tears, crying because a Member decided that it was OK to take out their frustration (bully) on a woman standing at a scanner.

We're just doing our jobs, people. Stop being like this.
