I think I owe Gen Z an apology I think I owe Gen Z an apology
Discussion

I'm a millenial and I used to be confused and put off by Gen Z slang. Even though I'm used to it now, a lot it still sounds like cringeworthy wannabe gangster speak.

HOWEVER, I was just sitting in a restaurant and overheard several schoolkids who I would assume are early Gen Alpha, and it genuinely sounded like three TikTok bot comments talking over each other.

I heard the words/phrases 'on God', 'mad lit', '+1000 aura', 'Ohio', 'drippy', 'delulu', 'fanum(?) tax' (whatever the hell that means) and more in the space of about five minutes. I thought this was just internet brainrot, but apparently it's real.

Gen Z, I'm so sorry. At least you still use something close to words.

Separating people into generation is stupid Separating people into generation is stupid
Rant

Here's an unpopular opinion, I think separating people in to generations is stupid. I feel like separating people into generations ends up dividing people more and causes more stereotypes. It's kinda annoying seeing each generation get mad at the next generation for the dumbest things. I also feel like each generation has some stupid complex where they think they are gonna make a huge change and end up not changing much at all. Every generation does it. Not to mention when there's a new generation a lot of the time people can't decide when the generation begins or ends. I see some sources say gen z starts at 1996 and others 1995. Also someone born in 1996 (gen z) will have more in common with someone that is born in 1995 (millennial) than someone born in late gen z like 2012. Which doesn't this defeat the whole point of generations. It's too wide of a range of dates to summerize a whole group of people. Generations shouldn't be categorized in my opinion I feel like we spend too much time obsessing over which generation we belong to. It's a waste of time and energy.

Should Free Speech Include Hate Speech? Should Free Speech Include Hate Speech?
Discussion

Historically the view has always been that Free Speech is there to protect unpopular speech or offensive langauge however the attitudes regarding free speech seem to be changing.

Tim Walz has said Free Speech should not include hate speech or misinformation. What's your thoughts? Does that go against free speech and what this country is about or does that make for a more polite society?

I should clarify were talking about hateful or mean speech, not calls for violence which is arleady illegal

i know there’s posts like this every day but i am so frustrated. the fact that millennial parents. who know exactly the dangers of the internet, are giving so much free reign of it to their kids from infancy makes me livid. not only are smartphone and ipad usage staples for them, they even appear to actively encourage it. the justification? because adults use phones too. are you kidding me?

my eight year old nephew told me he watched footage of GTA VI on youtube. then no, it was only GTA V (like i didn’t know what that was, and like that makes it any better). then no, it was “only the gameplay” (as if that’s not exactly the content he shouldnt be seeing, but what do i know?)

i tried explaining internet safety to him but he kept arguing: there was no point. he is so entitled to the internet and his own usage of it that he won’t even listen to what an adult is telling him about what he should and shouldn’t watch.

it’s like he’s 13 now, not fucking eight. when i was in the third grade i was playing kingdom hearts and pokémon. i didn’t even know about GTA. this is so wrong. it’s so young. not that his parents give a fuck! his parents who literally played GTA (at an appropriate age). lmfao

edit; oh and let me add, he’s not allowed to watch steven universe. a fucking g rated cartoon. but can watch whatever the fuck he wants on youtube. i dont get it

I’m older then my boss and co-wokers by 9-12 years. Gotta say, I absolutely love them. best job and environment I have ever worked in. Would run through a wall for these kids. Never had a job where people genuinely ask how I’m doing, care about my mental health and cut me slack when I need it. The first generation that seem to really understand and succeed at the whole work life balance thing. So GenZ makes me optimistic about the future.
