Biografia:

A banda de country rock Southwind era constituída pelo cantor e guitarrista John Martin, o cantor e baixista Jim Pulte, o organista Phil Hope e o baterista Eric Dalton. Originalmente formado na universidade americana de Oklahoma, no estado homônimo, como um conjunto de rockabilly chamado Disciples, o grupo se mudou para Los Angeles, Califórnia, por sugestão do músico e amigo Fontaine Brown, adotando a denominação Southwind, mais moderna, e expandindo significativamente seu som de modo a agregar elementos de pop rock (inspirado pela British Invasion), rock psicodélico e country tradicional. 

Assinando com a pequena gravadora Venture, em 1968 a Southwind lançou seu primeiro álbum, homônimo. A seguir, Fontaine Brown substituiu Hope, e a banda se transferiu para a gravadora Blue Thumb Records antes da gravação do seu segundo álbum, "Ready To Ride", contendo algumas faixas registradas ao vivo no Fillmore West, em São Francisco, Califórnia. "What A Strange Place To Land", de 1971, mostrou uma influência do blues mais acentuada do que os discos anteriores. A Southwind se desfez logo após o lançamento do terceiro álbum; adotando o nome artístico Moon, Martin ingressou na banda de apoio de Linda Ronstadt, e, posteriormente, gravou uma série de discos solos, além de compor a canção "Bad Case Of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)", um sucesso na voz de Robert Palmer. Pulte, em carreira individual, também emitiu um par de LPs em 1972, através da gravadora United Artists, e depois se retirou da cena musical (Jason Ankeny, AllMusic; tradução livre do inglês).
