Hero bans feel like a great addition to pro play. But adding them to ranked is a whole other story.

The history of OW pro play has always suffered from stale metas and mirror match-ups. These can be very interesting to hardcore followers, but get boring real fast for the average viewer.

The heart and soul of Overwatch are its vast and diverse cast of heroes, and the regular Joe probably likes to see that represented in the tournaments.

When you hop into a ranked match (in most ranks), you never know which heroes you're going to face, and that chaotic unpredictability is what makes each match feel unique. So it's no wonder that the hero bans felt successful, when they add this layer of unpredictability to the viewing experience, with players and coaches having to flex their mastery of different heroes and comps, and also adapting their strategies on the fly.

But with that said, trying to copy-paste this format in ranked doesn't feel like the right path to follow.

First of all, ranked games are already much less meta-dependent. In almost every rank, you can probably win with crazy hero picks and compositions, so what is hero bans even striving to achieve?

But most importantly, hero bans will deny us, the regular players, from playing the hero we wanted to play when we logged into the game. It will probably feel terrible for a big part of the player base, since Blizzard themselves have already told us that most players specialize in only very few characters.

And that is not even getting into the subject of who is going to be in charge of actually choosing the banned heroes, among 5 strangers which just just got matchmade without any good information about their own team's preferences, or the enemy team's.

With that said, maaaaaaaybe hero bans could come in some shape or form for the top 1% of the players, which are much more meta reliant, and have a more pro-like experience? Or maybe for 5-player groups that get matched with other 5-player groups?

What are your opinions on this subject? Hero bans in pro-play, yes? Hero bans in ranked, no?

[AVRL] "Hero bans have been the best possible addition to the competitive format I have seen in some time. Absolutely exceeded my expectations in how far it's elevated the gameplay of pro OW. Far more competitive games. More varied comps. Greater strategical depth. Everything I've wanted."

I'm very disgusted.

No matter what happens in the season finals, no matter if we stomp every team 3-0 and win it convincingly, there has to be serious roster and management changes for next year or I'm done supporting this organisation after 11 years.

This was probably the most disgusting and ridiculous finals I've EVER watched and I've been watching EU LCS / LEC / NA LCS since 2013. It's actually just disgusting, I can't repeat how disgusting it is.

Who are the best / most interesting T2 players in each region?

Following on from this thread about notable APAC T2 players, I thought with most Challengers leagues wrapping up soon it might be nice to discuss holistically which T2 players in all leagues are worth paying attention to with Ascension coming up.

Some suggestions for starters.

APAC: Vera, Cgrs, Caedya

Americas: Verno, Sato, mada, zander

EMEA: Sayonara

China: ??

The biggest robbery I’ve ever witnessed

We should have lost this series 3-0 if it weren’t for Fnatic cucking themselves so hard. Thank fuck Noah is the choking king lmao. Hope the team can sort their mess of an early game out for worlds, cause if we do that against any eastern team we’re going to get absolutely fisted.
