Final Statement of the Balkan Anarchist Bookfair 2024

From Balkan Anarchist Bookfair 2024

From the 5th to the 7th of July, Prishtina, Kosova, transformed into a hub of anarchist thought, coordination, and solidarity as it hosted the 16th edition of the Balkan Anarchist Bookfair (BAB). This first-ever anarchist gathering in an Albanian-speaking locality brought together over 250 participants from 29 countries, spanning from Chile to Azerbaijan. A total of 32 collectives and initiatives exhibited books and zines, and 18 discussions and events were organized, showcasing the movement’s all-encompassing diversity.

Abraham Lesperoglou, 1955-2024...

Happy Forays into the Valleys of Silence

Abraham Lesperoglou invaded our landscape, the young insurgent anarchists in the 1980s, after the Battle of Gyzi and the death of Christos Tsouchouvis. He was one of the "two trapped, still not found, as if the earth opened up and swallowed them," as Katerina Gogou captures in her poem, in a way that only she knew.

And then, there was a person who was mythical to us, not even twenty years old. This photo of the tough - but with a subtle irony - face with the hair and moustache was the only trace he left behind, as the number one wanted man for the action of the Anti-State Struggle: two cops dead in a robbery in Galati, a deceased prosecutor, the three cops of Gyzi, but also a seriously wounded cop in an earlier gold expropriation.

Especifismo Before its Critics

From Black Rose Anarchist Federation

We present here a translation of an article which appeared on July 7, 2024 in the recently revived Spanish anarchist journal Regeneración Libertaria. The journal describes itself as “a portal for the revolutionary anarchist tendency, concretely of the especifista current, adapted to the Iberian Peninsula”.

A glance at claimed illegal actions on US anarchist blogs

ISD analyzed six notable radical anarchist[1]movement blogs in hopes of offering an evidence-based review of the broader scene they represent, where sober analysis is often lacking. A review of posts published between January 1 and June 1, 2024, included a grab-bag of anonymously–claimed illegal activities against property including arson, vandalism and property destruction. None claimed direct violence against individuals. Researchers also found that the six analyzed blogs heavily focused their messaging on issues surrounding law enforcement, environmental destruction, the Israel-Hamas War, and corporate interests in those issues.

Focus on Rojava

From Class War

The devastating effects of the lesser evil and anti-imperialism in anarchist circles (II)

Why a focus on Rojava in 2024? Both because of random discussions, but also because the most widespread form of military-revolutionary mythology about Rojava has reappeared as an ideological support for an “anarchist” commitment to the war in Ukraine, going as far as to valorize the career paths of people who have gone from one war to another. On this occasion, a military commitment in Rojava is “naturally” presented as an authoritative justification for joining the Ukrainian troops “in any case”, the case being understood as a leftist or “anarchist” cause.
