Long time lurker first time poster here. My boss just reminded me of their "Golden Rule" of IT.
For some background we are mostly customer facing. Someone called, emailed, texted us, and necroed an old email thread to get in touch with us. I gave them resources yesterday and told them how to contact us if they have problems.
Got into work this morning and this customer has been lighting up various channels like it's Christmas ranting about how a "vital project" is due and how "this is an emergency".
It was then when my boss reminded me of their golden rule: "Your poor planning does not constitute my emergency."
This customer has all the tools, we have their files, and will work to fix it like everyone else's issue in 1-2 business days.
I love having a cool boss.

I was looking for a job switch. It was going well, until HR asked me my expected salary. I asked him to give me slightly higher than my current CTC, or match my current CTC. He asked for my current CTC, and bro went vocally berserk. Scolded me for taking 'higher salary than I deserve' and asked me if 'if I was being serious and do I even have a reality check'. There was nothing out of the norm or emotional from my side in this interview. He told me I should shut up and accept any salary that I am getting in this market. At this point I was gonna respond to him, but I wanted to see how far is he willing to go, so I let him speak. When he realized that I am not responding in his tone and it is difficult for him to make personal attacks, he opened my resume. That was followed by him explaining to me how my fancy university, publications and 2 US patents mean nothing. Mind you, I have never used the patent as a reason of asking for more hike. HE JUST KEPT GOING MAN. In the end, I asked him why was he responding emotionally, and told him to be more personal, highlighted all the personal attacks of his and asked him to relax.
I am still confused was up with him, I found the lead HR of his company on LinkedIn and emailed the entire incidence.
Thought it was an interesting incidence to share and you'd like it. What are your crazy HR experiences?
EDIT: Since people are asking me to name and shame: it is an aero startup that is heavily funded by a massive aircraft maker, the startup basically works for this company.

A place for all things related to the Rust programming language—an open-source systems language that emphasizes performance, reliability, and productivity.
The goal of /r/SQL is to provide a place for interesting and informative SQL content and discussions.
I keep seeing the same thing posted here all the time and usually I try to ignore it But it still bothers me: SQL is an easy language. In my experience, this is not true at all. It's easy when you are doing the simple little tutorials on websites like data camp and codecademy, or practice problems on SQLite, sure. When you have to select things like the sum of sales for the Southwest region for the years 2021 and 2022, sure, that's very easy...
But if we're talking about real SQL in a production environment, like at a big company, SQL goes from very easy and simple, to nightmarishly difficult. I have written ETL queries which span thousands upon thousands of lines of code long, and that's after doing all the optimizations and slimming down the code as much as possible. The logic becomes very complex the more you have to do, and the more elements you have to include in your SQL query. Of course, they don't tell you that here, or in college. Nope, “SQL is so easy, go do a tutorial online that is far simpler than anything you'll ever encounter!” But when we are talking about real data, SQL is not easy.
If you compare it to something like Python, which is hilariously easy Even in a production environment, you start to realize how difficult SQL actually is to become good at. Python tutorials are a dime a dozen, and it has so many libraries you can include to make things easier, AI is becoming better than ever at producing Python code. I was able to figure out how to write an entire window program in Python to do crazy, ridiculous things that I thought would take me months. I was able to do it in a couple hours. But producing a very well performing SQL query to retrieve 100k rows of data in a format that's easily usable downstream, that takes me days. Admittedly, it's because I want the code to work correctly, and not have to troubleshoot why half the data isn't loading in a week from now. But still, Python is so much easier in comparison....

I work in startup and as the title mentions, we were late for a meeting and the manager yelled at us for solid 15 mins. He used very bad words and were very unprofessional. He also asked us to quit if we can't some blah blah I have been working here for 2.5 yrs and have been seeing such things for a long time. I have a savings of 15 lakhs and is planning to quit next month. I don't have a job in hand. Want to take a break for 6 months, apply for masters and look for a job. Worried exiting might be a drama again. Please help me with how to proceed?.
