Have you ever given much thought to how gruesome and disgusting Elden Ring is?
More so than Bloodborne, honestly.
Amongst all the cool spells and gods and lore and epic quests...there is some true foulness going on.
You literally pick up blood stained shit and gobs of meat. You encounter living jars filled with the sliced and pureed bodies of criminals. There is an entity who is named for his habit of eating faeces.
Characters are rotting and decaying visibly, or shot through with horrible, horny growths. There is a whole level about grafting body parts onto people. Crucified, still living victims dot the Lands Between. Gods get turned into horrific, decaying fish creatures.
A noble witch you meet early on becomes a hideous ball of screaming faces. You frequently use severed body parts as weapons, and in one case, a boss RIPS OFF HIS OWN LEG and burns it to make himself stronger. There is an entire secret area devoted to blood, pedophilia, and kidnapping.
One quest sees you feeding eyeballs to a young woman who thinks they are grapes. I mean, fuck me, that's a bit much.
I'm not saying this is bad. ER is still one of the greatest games of all time. I wouldn't change ANY of this gruesome nonsense, because it all works.
But every so often I just catch myself going "That is fucking disgusting."
Miyazaki really let himself go here, didn't he?

I writing this just to vent a bit.
I am wholly grateful to Miazaki and the From Software team for giving us such a great game that has made a bing impact in individuals lives and in the game industry as a whole.
But lately I have noticed that rather than enjoying playing the game, I've been obsessing about boss fights and trying too hard to learn the complex boss mechanics.
I have seen many people here say that they can't enjoy other games now that they have played Elden Ring, in the same spirit I have found my self at time to not enjoy other aspects of life, like hanging out with friends, family or going out.
I've realised that I'm no longer consuming the game and that it's consuming me.
I'm saying goodbye for now, It's been an amazing journey, one that I will not take litetely and one that I will remember fondly.
It was a pleasure playing the game, invading and hanging out with you guys here!
