"What's happening this week in Delaware? - July 15, 2024 - July 21, 2024"

Are drivers just getting even worse? Are drivers just getting even worse?
Dover

In the last month i’ve narrowly avoided near death accidents. a few weeks ago in camden a car ran a red light and t-boned the car next to me (going 60mph+), then in the last 24 hours on route 1 between lewes and milford a wrong way driver traveling south IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE at 1am in the fog almost hit me straight on (100% would be dead, luckily saw the lights at the last second and swerved out of the way), then not even 12 hours later sitting at a red light a car was flying and wasn’t breaking and luckily i was looking at my rearview and quickly pulled into the shoulder as the driver slammed on his break and rear ended the guy in front of me at the light. all that being said, i’m terrified of even driving at this point! Anyone else have similar experiences in delaware this past year? seems like if you aren’t a very good defensive driver, your life is in danger anytime u drive on delaware roads.

UPDATE: 4 hours after posting this driving home from work i see a long line of cars stopped in an area normally not congested. turns out a car was stopped in the middle of the road with a shirtless guy getting in and out of the car screaming at i’m guessing his girlfriend. maybe domestic violence is also a part of the problem

Trash Help Trash Help
Wilmington

Hello friends! I live in Wilmington with my boyfriend, I own our home and have been here going on 3 years. I love our neighborhood and 99% of our neighbors.

Our issue is one of our neighbors constantly puts his dogs poop in our trash can. Now I’m not a psycho and I love dogs, and I wouldn’t care at all if this was an occasional occurrence. Except he does it almost every day, and his house is RIGHT NEXT DOOR. Also, with the temps reaching nearly 100 degrees for the past month, our trash can smells like steaming, melted dog shit 24/7.

At first I thought he was just being lazy and using our trash can if it was closer. So we put it in the basement for a week, and I shit you not - this guy walked all the way across the street to throw his dogs shit in another neighbor’s garbage can! I really can’t understand why he’s doing it, other than maybe he doesn’t want poop in his own trash can? I’m at a loss.

We’re planning to (politely) confront him and ask him to stop, but before we do, does anyone know the laws regarding communal or personal city trash? I can’t find anything online.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Midwesterner vacationing in Ocean View next week - best things to see/do? Midwesterner vacationing in Ocean View next week - best things to see/do?
Info Request

I’m looking for activities, events that are happening, and “must see” sights. I would take suggestions for exclusively adult things and also family things with young kids, big or small groups too since we’ll be traveling with other families.

We’ll have to keep kids entertained so we will have to do some basic things like going to a park sometimes, etc. , but I’m looking for things that are more unique to this area or Delaware or the NW in general.

Any specific beach to go to or stay away from?

Thanks!

Where to donate diving gear? Where to donate diving gear?
Editable Flair (not working in mobile app)

I have some old neoprene booties, good, wetsuit, as well as two BCDs, two pairs of flippers, and some weights / weight belt. They are from around 2005. Still good condition, but know resale won’t be that much so I’d like to donate. Anyone know of a youth foundation or something similar I could donate these to in hopes they’re still able to be used? I’m in Sussex county currently.

Thanks, stay cool out there everyone.

East Basin Betty? East Basin Betty?
Info Request

What’s the actual story about East Basin Betty? I was out with some friends a few nights ago in Trolly and we were talking about, Devils Road, The Wilmington Bag Lady, Ruby The Dog, just weird things in and around Wilmington and Newark. And this guy sitting next to us goes “You guys are probably too young to remember East Basin Betty”. I heard the name before, but didn’t know the actually story or anything. Was just curious.

Process to title a car but not register it? Process to title a car but not register it?
Info Request

I bought a car in illinois during college, i took it back in january to get it inspected(failed inspections) and tried to title it but didnt have time to title it. i ended up selling the car when i returned to illinois. i sold the car but because i already signed the original title i need to now title it under my name so i can transfer the title to the new owner. i still have the old inspection papers but idk if those expire or not. i no longer have said car in my possession + it wasn’t working when i sold it anyways so here’s my question:

is it possible to JUST title the car?

&

is it possible to title the car without liability insurance because i’m not registering it? i ain’t driving it cuz it wasn’t running and also it’s now not even mine anymore i sold it.

any info would help, thanks

Life in Delaware? Life in Delaware?
Moving to Delaware

Hey everyone!

I’m a current Long Islander who may be moving to Delaware between Fall / Winter. My parents have a house in the process of being built down in Delaware and our house on Long Island is currently in the process of being sold.

Sometime soon Im going to have to make the decision to either move with them or stay up here on my own. I’d love to stay here as it’s home to me and holds a whole lot of nostalgia. However, the cost of living is ridiculous up here. It’s rough, especially for someone younger like me.

I’m open to change, however I’m just not too sure if Delaware is the right destination for me. Obviously it’s not the most popular state but I’m not sure if that’s just because of how small it is or if it’s overall a more boring state. I also have a decent job out of college right now and I don’t know if I should risk losing it to find another one.

I was wondering if anyone who’s lived in Delaware for a while can give me an idea of what it’s like down there or tell me whether they think I would like it or not?

Is it doable for younger people to afford they’re on place down there?

Is there a good amount of entertainment down there?

Are there good areas for young adults to go out and meet new people there?

How does Delaware compare to other Mid-Atlantic states like Maryland and Virginia?

I am a 22 year old male, graduated from college in Media and Marketing. I come from a more rural and farm area on Long Island within close proximity to big towns / New York City so I had a great mix of small local life and city life. I enjoy hockey, cafes, hiking, camping, breweries, and just being out and socializing. My parents will be moving to Georgetown.

Thank you for any and all feedback. I look forward to learning more about the First State :)
