About Our Community

This subreddit is dedicated to helping people get out of debt and live with financial peace by using the simple principles taught by Dave Ramsey. Some of us are die-hard DR fans and others are not. We all agree on one thing though: Debt is dumb. Cash is king.

Check out our Wiki - there's lots of great information, advice, and FAQs that will help you get started!

The Baby Steps

BS1: Save $1000 as fast as possible!

BS2: Pay off debts from smallest to largest using the debt snowball method.

BS3: Grow your $1000 savings into 3-6 months of living expenses (fully-funded emergency fund)

BS4: Invest 15% of your gross income into retirement

BS5: Save for your childrens' college

BS6: Pay off your mortgage early

BS7: Build wealth and give!

Budgeting Resources

  • EveryDollar.com - the official Dave Ramsey budgeting tool. It's free (unless you want bank integration). Aligns with the Baby Steps completely and very easy to use.
  • YNAB (You Need A Budget) - fantastic tool for budgeting. They have a new version that is 100% web-based now. V4 is still supported and is a desktop version.
  • PersonalCapital.com - not a budgeting tool per se but a good tool to help visualize your net worth. Also free to use.

FPU

FPU stands for Financial Peace University. A 9-week in-person or online course that comprises of videos and group discussions. It's a phenomenal program and highly recommended by all us here if you are serious about getting out of debt and learning more about the Baby Steps.

Classes are held all year long all over the US. For a list go here to see what is near your neck of the woods.
