I'm dating someone that mentioned liking some of Andrew Tates content.
Is that a red flag?

My friend [36 M] agrees with 80% of what Andrew Tate says, and refuses to discuss it with me [28 F]. I don’t necessarily think he’s a bad person but I still feel weird being friends with him. Like if I see something bad about Tate on Twitter I get a sinking feeling when I remember “oh yeah my friend likes him”
He said he agrees with only 80% of it and not all of what Tate says about women (I am a woman). But it still disturbs me — I think that the hateful and horrible things Tate has said make up way more than 20%, right?!
My friend subscribes to Tate’s “low value” and “high value” way of rating people. When I pointed out that this is kind of messed up in my opinion, he said that he doesn’t even consider himself a high value male because he’s not rich. That….doesn’t make it any better???? In fact, it makes it worse, because I know my friend would consider my boyfriend to be low-value, as my boyfriend is not rich. :(
He refuses to discuss it any more and says he doesn’t want to talk about Tate with me. It upsets him and makes him angry and upsets me too.
I asked a mutual (female) friend how she can still be friends with him given his beliefs. She says she doesn’t mind because he’s always there for her and they’ve been friends for so long.
But I don’t know how good of a person one can be if they support Tate. I think either my friend is just ….a bad person, OR he is so incredibly stupid that he really believes that all the bad stuff about Tate is conspiracy theories. (He’s also a hardcore Trump fan and believes in Deep State conspiracies and stuff). Even though Tate himself has openly admitted to supporting SA. (He has posted “You can point at females at random and force them to have your sons”)
So I don’t get it, I guess my friend doesn’t see these posts? Or turns a blind eye to them? Our mutual female friend pointed out that he doesn’t get fed that stuff by the algorithm, he only sees posts that glorify Tate. But I don’t understand how you can close your eyes to mountains upon mountains of evidence that Tate is a bad person and a misogynist ….
In our last convo, I made an offhand comment about how Tate slept with a 14 year old and my friend didn’t react. So either my friend thinks it’s okay or he thinks it’s a lie (but again, that is a serious amount of denial)…..
