Excited • Excited

Am now 1 month in on keto/moderate LCHF and I feel like my health has definitely improved already by cutting out all the processed carbs I used to base my food intake on. Much less bloated, lost a noticeable amount of weight (not primary goal), got more energy and the best thing is that my teeth clenching at night giving me tension headaches has been reduced soooo much! I no longer feel the need to use my night guard. But if I slip up 1-2 days if we have guests or so, then the clenching immediately comes back. It feels great to be doing this diet, can’t believe I waited this long to try it. Thankful for this community

PSA for folks who have managed to get diabetes into remission… • PSA for folks who have managed to get diabetes into remission…
Medical

A poster at my local doctors office from the UK National Health Service highlighted an aspect I had not considered.

I got a friend of mine who was diagnosed as diabetic into keto and he beat it.

I didn’t know that he is still at risk of eye problems.

The poster reads:

Are you diabetes in remission or diabetes resolved?

Great work but don't forget you still need to attend screening every year

National guidance states that if a person has ever had diabetes, they should continue to be screened as sight threatening changes may continue in their eyes.

Would love some advice please • Would love some advice please
Help

Hi all, I’d really appreciate some help or advice here. I’m 43f, weight 73kg. I’ve been doing keto for 5 weeks now. I used the calculator and started with 1400 calories, 80g protein, <20g net carbs and 112g fat. Been using MFP and logging everything, and meal preparation. I haven’t been much active due to knee issues but been doing some walking during the last couple of weeks as much as I could. I also admit that for the first 3 weeks I was targeting fat as goal and not limit. Learned from this sub and changed that to target protein as goal and fat as limit (thank you!)- also from last week I reduced my calorie intake to 1300 to make up for not being active and I feel good. I’m aiming to drop weight to 65kg ( what I was pre damn-Covid).

So now, my question is, is it normal that I haven’t lost any weight so far? I can be patient to see some results but I hear from people dropping weight in first weeks of keto and I just fear I might not be on the right track. It would be great to hear some advice on whether there’s something I’m not doing or doing wrong or even if you tell me I just need to give myself more time. Thank you!

Edit: forgot to mention that I’ve been doing IF (16/8) for some time now, even before keto.

Keto and boomerang weight • Keto and boomerang weight

Hi to all, I am 38/F and I started the keto diet because I was diagnosed with insulin resistance and my doctor recommended this diet. I started at 97kg and am currently at 89.5kg in less than two months. What worries me a bit is that last weekend, on Sunday morning, I was 89.1kg. I ate grilled meat and salad that day, but also three small slices of watermelon. On Monday morning, I was 91kg. Today I am at 89.9kg. But I am afraid that because of the small amount of watermelon, I gained almost one kilogram. Is this really possible or is it simply water retention due to excess carbohydrates? Thanks everyone for the comments.

Your favorite pre packaged foods • Your favorite pre packaged foods
Food and Recipes

I’m looking for some snack suggestions. I’m a MAJOR snacker. I’m asking specifically for pre packaged AKA processed snacks that are geared towards keto and low carb dieters. But they can also be random snacks that happen to fit our diet criteria. I’m looking for some lesser known or unusual foods because I’m tired of only getting beef jerky and nuts when I google this.

As a token of gratitude for your help, I’ll put you on some of my favorites. 1. Tao kae noi crispy seaweed. It’s so crispy almost like a chip. Super delicious. I eat these even when I’m not dieting. I used to get these in bulk at the 99 cent only stores for a dollar each, but the stores have gone out of business. I now get these in various flavors for about 3 dollars at local Asian marts. 2. Quest protein chips in BBQ flavor. The quest tortilla chips are good, but these mimic baked potato chips in texture. The bbq flavor is actually delicious. I don’t like quest loaded taco or chili lime fyi 3. Clear American sparkling waters. They have so many damn flavors; it’s amazing! I use them as carbonation for mocktails or drink them as they are. Peach and Fuji apple are my favorite. Stay away from white grape.

Please respond with your own snack items. I’m desperate to stay on this diet for at least a year, but I’ve always been a person who needs variety. For snacking, I supplement pre packaged foods with plenty of pickled vegetables, low carb fruits, finger food recipes, and whip cream based frozen desserts.

Keto with just a Microwave • Keto with just a Microwave
Help

Greetings. I was on keto a month or so ago but then took a pause due to rescue mission with the county (stuck in the woods for over a week and had to use MREs - last minute departure) so I took a break but now I’m on a TDY (military) and want to start again, but we only have a microwave to use to cook with. What are some methods y’all have used (if you were in similar spot) to do keto? I know sliced meats and cheese are easy, but some variety would be nice every now and then. TIA!

What do you eat? Do you eat vegetables with every meal? How do you make sure you meet your fat intake ? • What do you eat? Do you eat vegetables with every meal? How do you make sure you meet your fat intake ?

I’m sorry if these questions have been asked before. I’ve been doing this for a month and I feel like I’m not making progress? I use my fitness pal to track but sometimes it seems like I’m over my protein goals but not my fat intake so I’m having issues balancing that and I’m running out of ideas. So I’m asking what’s your usual keto meal? I feel like I can only have vegetables with one meal so I don’t go over my carbs. I’ve have lost 9 lbs this month which is huge but I wonder if I will continue to lose fat. Any help is appreciated.

Stagnation on Keto & what to do? • Stagnation on Keto & what to do?
Help

Started Keto OMAD, 3 weeks back, in the first two weeks lost an astounding 8kgs (17lbs), now the weight is stagnant. I'm morbidly obese so there is a lot to loose.

At the end of the second week introduced a bit of Stevia zero sugar sweetener drops and Kombucha (with zero actual sugars). I'm worried this might be the issue and need to be completely off sugar in any form (including kombucha). Do you guys think this is correct or is there anything else?

For context, I've don't keto successfully before (I do Vegan keto) but gained a lot of weight due to an injury, now want to go back to Keto life.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Keto not working • Keto not working

Hi all! To give context, I’m 5’5, 127lbs. I’m mostly doing keto to lose a little bit of extra weight and fit into my clothes better. I started keto maybe two weeks ago, my starting weight was 129 so I did drop 2lbs which is probably water weight honestly.

(Sorry for the insanely long post)

After the first 2-3 days, I dropped to 126lbs, then I went back up to 128lbs, then yesterday I went back down to 126lbs and now I’m back up at 127lbs. The problem is that this is all normal weight fluctuation and I don’t know what to do anymore.

I’m fairly active, since it’s nice outside, I try to do 4-5 bike rides a week that are around 30 min, 10km. I’ve also been strength training for around 9 months now, also 30 min workouts, nothing too extreme. So my exercise level is fairly high.

I have been tracking, making sure I stay underneath the 20 net carbs and I have. This morning after the rise in weight, I tracked the calories I ate yesterday to double check and make sure I did stay underneath and my net carbs were 18 which is great, but I also realized that my calorie were below 1000 which is pretty bad.

I’m not sure why keto isn’t working, I did Ideal Protein a couple years ago which is essentially keto but with the foods they provide and I lost the weight pretty easily.

The only foods I can think of that could be the cause of this is either gum, which I eat a lot, it helps with craving but I did realize it contains maltitol which isn’t very good on keto (I stopped eating gum about a week ago and still no progress), or keto wraps. I get the Oroweat Keto wraps which is only 2g of net carbs per wrap so it is keto friendly and fits in my diet but it’s the only food that makes sense. I usually eat it with nut butter (less than 2g net carbs) and keto chia seed jam (also less than 2g net carbs). I’ve tried cutting them out and it has slightly helped but it’s one of the only sweet foods I can enjoy and I really don’t want to cut them out.

Any help?

Diet journey buddies • Diet journey buddies
Other

Hi! So I've been trying to lose weight for YEARS-- but because I've been not motivated enough, I'm always stopping.

Now I'm living alone and can control what I eat or not (please help us resist the temptation of eating unhealthy snacks) but can't work out cause of a very busy life schedule, I'll be focusing on my diet.

I'll be doing mainly IF + LC so if you wanna be diet buddies and share each other's meal of the day to inspire one another, or even share each other's frustrations while trying to lose weight, hit me up!

Mostly ground beef diet because of weigh plateau • Mostly ground beef diet because of weigh plateau

This week I’m starting a mostly ground beef diet. There’s a few other things I’m adding to keep myself sane like, strawberries, blue berries, unsweetened almond milk + expreso and (one a day) keto peanut butter chocolate

I’m also switching from walking to running

My weddings in 30 days and my weights plateaued.

I’ve lost a lot of weight sense giving birth. When I left the hospital I was 185 and I’m now 134. My goals 130 before my wedding though.

Starting to get nervous I won’t make it.

Any extra tips? Advice?? Do you think these last few pounds will come off even though my weights plateaued for the past few weeks?

Vegan and keto,,, is it even possible? • Vegan and keto,,, is it even possible?

I’m basically plant based at this point, I can’t handle dairy and don’t care for eggs and meat is definitely off the table. But is there any actual way to be vegan on a keto diet? I’m not trying to do this super long term or anything but I do want to fast to reach ketosis and stick there for a week or two… Is there any sustainable way to be vegan on a keto diet? Or is this more of a meat eaters only club? Does anyone know any high protein low carb vegan options that would be considered keto?

Success Story

Thank you all for both encouraging me and tempering my expectations when I last posted! Today I woke up in the 200's club for the first time since 2019, and I am beyond overjoyed with my progress. Though I've had a couple mishaps (I ate a lot more fat than I needed to some days and lost barely anything) I've been able to consistently stick to 1600 calorie OMAD keto with a 20 net carb limit. If there's any advice I could give to the people who've started this journey on a whim like I did, it'd be to just keep your head down and keep going. As long as you're feeling fine in your day-to-day, stick to it and keep on learning about your body. I'm loving every day so far, so I'll be in it for the long haul. My next goal is 270, and I should reach it in 9 to 10 weeks. 222 or bust!

P.S. While 222 is my goal, because it's a funny number to get to from 333, I've joked with my best friend about losing exactly his body weight (140 Ibs). Do y'all know if 193 Ibs is possible for a 6'l" dude with a relatively large frame? What information would I need to look for to figure that out?
