But what will we do? If tenacious D has died what can we do? And what will we do, about all the fans that have the D tattoo?

They’ll have them removed, they’ll have to laser of the D tattoo….tattoo……

They’ll have to laser off the D tattoo…. 😔

u/Cpt_Obvius avatar

I heard there was a misunderstanding, didn’t understand.

u/bobbaganush avatar

Kyle made an insensitive, stupid joke. It was spur of the moment, and I’m sure he wishes he hadn’t. Can the western world please calm tf down over others’ words?

You are responding to someone quoting one of their songs. Way to ruin to thread!

after much reflection, i no longer feel it is appropriate to continue this thread, and all future plans are on hold. i am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.

“All future creative plans are on hold” - after decades together, JB and KG might have a career altering disagreement. I see both sides, but that would be devastating :( The government totally sucks

I doubt JB disagrees with the sentiment, just the fact that KG said it on stage

u/baxterstrangelove avatar

It could easily happen. Have a few drinks, trying to be funny and something inappropriate slips out. Could see them halting until the election is over. Do not want draw the ire on them or their fans

u/Otherwise-Remove4681 avatar

Also I thought aussies has a bit rougher humour, so it would have been in the right context no?

Bad taste yes, but nothing to lose marbels about, like some Australian politician crying for deportation.

more replies More replies

Yeah. It can be really damaging to JB with his film career. Especially with him doing big family films like Mario and Minecraft.

and even that new Borderlands film.

If the Borderlands film is family friendly they are doing it wrong and it will go down in history like the live action ATLA travesty.

Well, he ad-libed a bad joke that was "too soon". It's not like he published Mein Kampf or something. If we cancel every comedian that makes a bad or inappropriate joke there won't be any comedians left.

Seriously hoping not, but Jack has a massively successful other career that this type of incident can really hurt. And they trulyalmost ebded the band after the POD movie. Maybe just another extended break til things calm down.

What happened after the POD movie? Too vulgar?

u/Peacefrog78 avatar

The POD movie was a box office bomb and the expensive tour combined into a financial disaster for the band. Unfortunately for us D fans Jack has more lucrative opportunities on his own in movies. He also now has a family and a dreamworks family-friendly side to think about. Money can be very persuasive.

I had no idea, it was the coolest thing in the world to my friends and me.

u/Ok_Operation2292 avatar

Trump advocated for violence against politicians many times over and that was apparently acceptable given he's actually the 2024 Republican nominee.

Why is it okay when Republicans say things like that and no one else? The double standard is insane.

Republicans/Right/Conservatives all scream that the other side are "snowflakes" and need safe spaces, etc - but as soon as someone makes a joke they don't like, it's suddenly calls for shows to be canceled? It's wiiiillldddd. They don't see their own hypocrisy.

u/Ok_Operation2292 avatar

Because no one holds them accountable for their actions or words while everyone else is held accountable for both.

Just look at what happened with Al Franken. Conservatives never give up a chance to to go after liberals or progressives for their actions, but liberals and progressives overwhemingly seem to turn the other cheek when it's conservatives that are caught in the act.

I think Biden’s campaign or at least Biden insiders probably had a say as well.

Jack Black was one of the keynote speakers at Biden’s major fundraiser in LA. JB was selling “Dark Brandon” merchandise as well.

When you have Obama, George Clooney, etc. all strongly condemning the assassination attempt, but the one guy associated with them having a band being like “lmao 🤣shouldn’t have missed 💯”… yeah it looks pretty fuckin bad politically.

Yup this is what happened

More replies

My bet is that Tenacious D will take a break from touring until after the election and all this stuff blows over.

Yup, I bet this is exactly how it played out.

More replies

I think it might be partly a safety issue as well. People be cray cray

u/VB_Creampie avatar

We have loud fuckwits in Australia for sure that would maybe turn up and create noise outside the venues. It would last a week at best before they get distracted by some other shit from Sky (think Fox) News.  They are very much a minority, just super loud and get shitloads of media coverage. To the point when we had antivax, lockdown protests, other anti government protests you would always see the professional protesters in the coverage.

As far as safety of the band and crew, they'd need to beef security up slightly but that's it. There is very little to worry about here in terms of actual violence.

I'm pissed it's cancelled, I'm just going to seek refund of my tickets if they don't confirm new dates by a couple of weeks. I've had too many shows cancelled during/after covid that just didn't get rescheduled

It was a bit of a distasteful comment by KG but really, it's not that big of a deal. And literally 99% of people outside of the US dgaf. I understand it from Jack's point of view in some way but at the same time, don't throw your mate under the bus like this. I'm on KG's side on this, it was probably something said in the moment without much thought behind it - distasteful yes but we've all probably said much worse.

Fuckin sick of US politics leaking all over the world man

You CANNOT publicly voice your support for the assassination of someone if you are in the entertainment industry. It’s pretty fucking simple.

More replies

Canceling the whole tour is such an overreaction. It feels like JB throwing Kyle under the bus. People are going to be mad at Kyle for “ruining the tour” and praising Jack for condemning his band mate. After all they’ve been through you think Jack would be a bit more loyal and supportive. It was just an edgy joke that lots and lots of people have made. Kyle doesn’t deserve this at all 😢

I'm guessing it'll blow over after the election.

u/Tebeku avatar

Honestly, I'd get it if Jack got pissed. It was a reckless thing to say. I don't really care either way, but they have record deals, contracts, connections that can get harmed by these kind of comments. Good luck getting Kung Fu Panda 7 off the ground if you associate with people calling for political violence.

That being said, I think this whole thing got blown out of proportion. Kages gonna rage.

Way out of proportion. The D makes way worse jokes than this. I only get it in that the extreme right/maga is dangerous and although they joke about Biden all the time and how everyone is a snowflake this is what makes them have “feelings” all of a sudden. Now people can’t joke about the future King Trump but Joe Biden has people on a daily basis wanting him dead or wishing far worse than what happened to Trump.

I think it’s just a bunch of damage control and that one of the Australian senators wanted to revoke their travel visas.

It was a joke. 99% of the D fans will know that, but the obvious joke about violence is bad PR. Also the Trump supporters are a very vocal and often gun-carrying minority.

There are fans griping on their insta at how hurt they are by what they said, but they are a sensitive group of people.

I think and hope this isn’t the end of The D. It would be a shame for something so stupid to be the end of something so great. But the band wants to be able to perform safely and without their visa’s getting revoked.

Also, for Jack, if his visa is revoked, he probably can’t make movies in Australia either, so they want to keep their visas.
