POST-DISCO - The Greatest Disco Era? POST-DISCO - The Greatest Disco Era?

I love disco music in most, if not all of its forms.

Post-disco is a bit of a wide umbrella/catch all term for all disco derived music 1980 onwards until the 90s. This can include boogie, 80s synth dance pop, and what is just called 80s 'dance' or 'club' music.

Post-disco would see the lush string and brass arrangements dropped for more electronic keyboard sounds and synthesizers.

My absolute favourite sub-genre of disco is the Post-Disco tracks that emerged immediately after disco, and sometimes just at the back end of the disco era. The sweet spot for this is 1979-1982. These tracks combine the best of both worlds, by keeping the strings, brass and acoustic drum kits of the 70s, but also introduce the (at the time) newer electronic sounds such as drum machine samples, synths, and digital reverbs. Often these are feel-good tracks. For me, this is disco in its most elite form.

Here are some of my highlights:

Klique - i cant shake this feeling

Plaza - dancing shoes https://youtu.be/R7BeWvtxA9Y?si=Lz7Kt047zCENhu8I

PYT - Michael Jackson https://youtu.be/1ZZQuj6htF4?si=dof0FybrF1bNLkIU

Kreamcicle - Hold on https://youtu.be/m2hB7hcb9II?si=GV6hklSdNvEOpcPi

Whispers - and the beat goes on https://youtu.be/pEmX5HR9ZxU?si=CYm5EH1JoSehO7nI

What other tracks do you know of that fit this style?

What are your thoughts on post disco in general? And specifically this very short, niche window where the disco sound was transitioning into more of an 80s sound?
