Generation X was born, by broadest definition, between 1961 and 1981, the greatest anti-child cycle in modern history. Nevertheless, we grew up to become the world's most devoted parents: the "workhorse of America." This sub welcomes links, photos, graphics, memoirs, commentaries, stories, etc., for and about Gen-Xers, the 13th Generation of Americans. GenX also translates to many other parts of the world.

We're Dr. Drew and Mike Catherwood, hosts of the radio show "Loveline," Ask Us Anything!

Update #5: The Airborne Toxic Event (band) is in studio and there are like 5 members. I'm not sure I'll be able to get much from Drew or Mike in the way of answers tonight. Didn't want you to think we were just abandoning the thread.

Update #4: The guys are gone for the night. Feel free to ask more questions, or better yet, upvote the ones already asked that you'd most like to see answered tomorrow.

Update #3: The guys are talking their asses off with Brian Posehn during the breaks. Haven't been able to get a word/question in edgewise.

*Started this yesterday in the AMA section but were told this would be a more appropriate section. Here's yesterday's thread - http://www.reddit.com/r/AMA/comments/hyb54/were_dr_drew_and_mike_catherwood_from_loveline/

Hey Reddit,

Dr. Drew and "Psycho" Mike Catherwood, the hosts of Loveline, are standing by and ready to take your questions about Loveline or anything else you'd like to ask about. They'll arrive at the studio in about an hour and answer as many questions as they can get to before the show starts. Once the show starts at 10pm, I'll pop in during the breaks and try and get more answers.

If you're not familiar with it, Loveline is a nationally syndicated call in advice show that's been on for nearly 30 years with a focus on relationships, sex, and addiction. The show also aired on MTV (with then co-host Adam Carolla) from '96 to '00.

We'll answer what questions we can get to tonight and will continue as long (within reason) as the questions keep coming. (Questions/answers will be relayed to/from Mike and Drew by me, Loveline's web guy, Tyler.)

On an episode of Loveline, Dr. Drew touted the positive sexual side effects of Wellbutrin. Turns out he was paid $275,000 by Glaxo.

reflections on loveline

This show was a lot of things to me. I am writing this to get others input and stories about how this show taught you more about relationships, sexuality, and the other things the show talked about. I had a girlfriend in the late 90s and we would stay up late listening to it and would talk about it with each other. Seeing this subreddit brought back a lot of memories from that time in my life. The weirdest episodes were the ones where usually a girl but not always would ask a silly question , she would get an answer backed up with logic from Dr. Drew, and she would try to talk them out of the advice they had just given her. I could go on and on. Anyone else have this show as something central to a relationship or did you learn anything about a relationship you were in? Thank you in advance

Grew up listening to loveline on Kroq in Southern California. Was so obsessed with 311 that I taped this episode. Forgot about it and recently found it on yt. It’s the full episode so it’s long but it’s interesting to hear him talking about random things other than music. Also interesting hearing him say they are into a “new sound” (end of the classic era) This was right before evolver was released.

Song Jihyo: I used To Hate "SPARTACE" loveline..But I Want It More These Days.. (MBC Tteokbokki Brother)

Song Ji-hyo reveals her true feelings about her love line with Kim Jong-kook.

MBC Every1’s “Tteokbokki Brothers,” which will air on May 10th, will be decorated with the theme of “Secondary-character Goddess.” Song Ji-hyo, who is active in many fields, will appear as an actress (her main character) and an entertainer (her secondary character). As Ji Seok-jin and his co-worker of 12 years Song Ji-hyo will appear together in this episode, many are expecting pleasant revelations and the tiki-taka chemistry between them.

According to the production team, Ji Seok-jin said, “Song Ji-hyo is a real goddess. Her on-screen visual is nothing compared to her in real life,” he said, “Song Ji-hyo does not bluff and is simple. She is the best prospective bride,” he said, praising Song Ji-hyo who he has worked with for 12 years. As a result, Song Ji-hyo and Kim Jong-min suddenly started to create a pink atmosphere despite it being their first meeting.

However, to approach Song Ji-hyo, there is a wall that Kim Jong-min had to cross, and it is Kim Jong-kook. Song Ji-hyo and Kim Jong-kook are receiving great love for their love line on SBS’ “Running Man.” Ji Seok-jin even said that he would buy a large TV for them if the two get married. Kim Jongmin asked Song Ji-hyo a straightforward question, saying, “Is your love line with Kim Jong-kook true?”

Song Ji-hyo said, “To be honest, I hated my love line with Kim Jong-kook at first. I even asked Kim Jong-kook not to do such a thing,” surprising everyone. But now, Song Ji-hyo, more than anyone else, thinks this love line is fun. Song Ji-hyo confides, “These days, I even ask for more.”

Why did Song Ji-hyo hate her love line with Kim Jong-kook? What is the truth behind Song Ji-hyo and Kim Jong-kook‘s love line? Will Kim Jong-min be able to win Song Ji-hyo‘s heart and cross the Kim Jong-kook‘s wall? The “Tteokbokki Brothers,” where all of this will be revealed, will visit viewers at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10th.

Loveline Engineer Anderson turned out fine!

Sorry for the long post - but a quick aside from Dan today got this going.

I nearly did a spit take laughing this morning when I heard Dan ponder -"I wonder what Anderson, the engineer is up to these days, it can't be good, right?" Jordan - "It CAN'T be!" when talk of Dr. Drew and Loveline came up.

I have been a fan of Anderson's podcasts for about 15 years, he is a great podcaster and hosts a few shows including "The Film Vault", which also features Loveline alumni, "Bald Bryan" Bishop, who has been doing battle with a brain tumor for many years at this point, as well as "The After Disaster" where he and fellow hosts Mike Carano and Tyler White just shoot the shit and are very funny.

I never listened to Loveline, so I don't have that reference, but I do know from listening to Anderson that he was known for being a douche at that point in his life. What many folks don't know is that for many years up until he had a child of his own 6(I think) years ago, he volunteered yearly for Ronald McDonald House for kids with terminal cancer. He has done a lot more good on this front than many I know, including myself.

He is currently in the early stage of producing a documentary film called 'loaded for bear' mainly in the fundraising stage right now.

from the website loadedforbeardoc.com -

"This documentary will showcase the Born To Act Players in Los Angeles, an amazing group of intellectually and developmentally disabled actors. I want to share their experiences in a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to get an independent film made with real inclusion and representation.
- Anderson Cowan, Director "

He is also making a yet-to-be-named feature film starring some of the Born To Act Players, but this 'loaded for bear' project is a documentary about the making of that upcoming feature film.

If any other wonks out there would like to donate to the project, the link is here:

https://secure.givelively.org/donate/entertainment-2-affect-change/loaded-for-bear

Thanks for reading! If anyone could post some links to the KF Twitter page, I would love that. I bailed from the Twitter dumpster fire as soon as Elmo bought it.

now go home and tell your mother that you're brilliant!!

Why did Adam leave Loveline?

Read the comment below and not sure if it was true:

From what Adam said years later: They were told that they had to lower the budget of the show, and they wanted it all to come out of Adam’s salary. So Drew would still be making the same, and Adam would be making about half as much. He of course told them to shove it. The weird part is that if they had just lowered them both the same amount, they would have likely kept them both.

I guess they probably wanted to get rid of Adam, which worked out great for the show for sure.

2006 Loveline

It must have been around 2006. I was trying to get into rock music in 6th / 7th grade, so I started listening to KROQ. I grew up in a low-income, mostly hispanic neighborhood, listening mostly to hip hop and various styles of Latin music, cause that’s what my family and most people out in public listened to, but I was hanging out with a bunch of skater kids at the time, and I desperately wanted to fit in. They all listened to rock music, so I tried to get into myself. It was very edgy and different to me, having not been exposed to it much growing up, as I said. Songs by System of a Down or AFI, for example, were really left field for me. I had one of those digital radio alarm clocks and would sometimes fall asleep with the radio on. After the music stopped playing, Loveline came on, I think it was around 10pm, and I’d listen to it. I remember thinking I was too young to be listening to it. But it was very educational, even if I didn’t always know what they were talking about. Anyway, I was just feeling nostalgic about this, so I thought I’d come here and share some memories. I’ll probably look up some episodes from that era and listen to em now. Thanks for reading.

Following the disappearance of the Loveline & Classic Loveline podcasts from the PodcastOne website, I emailed their customer support department to seek an explanation. Here's the response I received earlier today:

Hi,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have been forced to remove Loveline and Classic Loveline from our lineup of great podcasts. In response to this issue, we intend on launching Adam & Drew, five days a week per the request of their fans.

Very best,
