A place to ask questions, discuss topics and share projects related to Electrical Engineering.
I currently work at an OEM in the robotics and automation field as an EE where 99% of the design is done by mechanical and electrical is an afterthought at every step of the design process. By the time the design gets to electrical absolutely no thought gets put into whats involved electrically and I end getting left to pick up all the pieces by trying to collect information from everyone to try and make their design work. Trying to collect information from everyone is like pulling teeth and no one seems to have an answer for anything, yet im supposed to spec, design and order parts for the machine that they designed without any critical information.
im interested in transitioning into a field that is more centered around EE and not so much of an after thought. I've always been interested in Audio, consumer electronics, or even hydro as an alternative to primarily mechanical based robotics and automation.
My question: what kind of BS should i expect to deal with in a job centered around EE?

The volume adjustment on my TV goes up to 100. Anything louder than maybe 12 is completely intolerable.
Simultaneously, I have wished many times that I could lower the volume of my phone speaker to be quieter than even the very first ‘notch’ above mute.
Why are things designed this way?
