I work in a kennel and it's kitten season. Another baby cat has died and I feel upset about it to the point if crying. I know people who have lost family members and other people who have died and I feel dumb for crying over animals i barely know. Am I weak for this?
This is a place to discuss horror literature. Any book is up for discussion as long as that discussion is respectful. It doesn't matter if you're into Stephen King, Octavia Butler, Jack Ketchum or Shirley Jackson, this is the place to share that love and discuss to your heart's content.
I love horror, but I cannot stand when anything happens to animals, especially pets. For context, I began reading Tender is the Flesh and was not fazed by the humans being processed as meat but as soon as the puppy came up… I could not. I can read some pretty creepy and graphic stuff, but not to animals. It’s weird I know.

So i was discussing TMA with my sisters and trying to convince them to listen to a few episodes with me and i ended up categorising them according to the Fears that i think would choose them as Avatars. The sister that The Hunt wants to draw her OC in accordance to this but in the style of her art persona, which is a sheep. Is that possible for an Avatar of The Hunt, to have them as prey animals or am I just thinking way to hard about this?

My partner and I have 4 cats and a dog. We love them, we spoil them. We want another dog, and I’d even be open to another animal after that.
My question is: how many pets can you have before the amount of time/quality of relationship with each individual starts to decline?
For example, the lady on Tiktok with 14 dachshunds—there’s no way she makes time to work AND have 5-10 minutes of special, 1-on-1 time each day.
We really love our pets and tend to treat them like people. But how many can we have before they start becoming more like roommates than family?
Edit: Thanks for the amazing comments! A few people mentioned the question of money, and I want to say that we absolutely would never consider getting more pets if we could not afford to treat them better than we treat ourselves (including medical care!).
For anyone wondering, we have an orange tabby, a dilute calico, a buff cat (who is blind), and a black and brown tabby, and a Weimaraner.
This is a place for people without cats, and who do not like cats, to come. If you own cats or harbor friendly feelings to those creatures, this is the wrong place for you.
The crazy thing is that they're recommended as "low maintenance, independent, clean" etc pets. No they are not! That is so not my experience at all. I feel like a lot of cat owners let their cats run their lives, and idk if they're sick with toxoplasmosis or something, but they just expect everyone to deal with their cat's bad behavior. They shit in a sandbox indoors, get fur everywhere, climb and walk everywhere, their piss smells horrible, they knock things over, often scratch up furniture, etc.
They seem like a semi-feral animal that's allowed free reign of a home for some reason. I don't get it.
It's my personal opinion that almost any other pet is better. Dogs CAN potentially be worse if they aren't trained, but well-trained dogs are wonderful imo. Shedding is inevitable, but besides that, in my experience they actually aren't as messy! They also don't swat at your legs when you're just trying to walk by. You can train them not to bite you when playing. Not so much with a cat.
Most other pets are in a cage, so their mess is confined. Or are let out for short amounts of time, or are strictly outdoor. One of the only animals I can think of that would be worse than a cat is a fox (and I LOVE foxes)... and that's because foxes are WILD ANIMALS! Cats just... idk, I just can't with them. And letting them outside is terrible for the ecosystem. They're terrible inside and outside. It's cool if some people love them, but I don't. No room for them in my life.
(If you look at my post history, you'll see my roommate has a cat. Not my cat, although he likes to pester me anyway)
