Kinda like Monkey Island, King’s Quest, Sam and Max. Or maybe like Humongous Entertainment games like Putt Putt, Spy Fox, Freddie Fish and Pajama Sam. I think that would work as a fan game, does that exist yet?

What were some of your favourites? Mine were monkey island 2 and Kings quest v.

Driving my housemates insane because any time I see something like Myst I'm like "oh yeah that's by the guy that killed his wife right?" Then they look at me like I'm crazy. I saw a youtube video go in depth, its a bizarre game that ends with aliens? There's a news article that talks about the creator going crazy and he killed his wife and then himself. Any clue what I'm thinking about so I can prove to my housemates I'm not insane?

These games are part of my growing up years where games and PC are relatively expensive and I would play the hell out of a game to explore all possible paths and outcomes. Where we don’t have accessible guides like today and really, the likelihood of solving a game is by repeatedly playing, talking with others or owning a physical guidebook.

if you would decide to create a game a la thimbleweed park, but smaller in it's extent, and as a free in-browser online game. How would you approach it?

I looked at visionaire studio, as it offers html5 export. But I'm not really sold, as i have no clue how it actually implements it and if it is even streamlined for online use.

If a good browser implementation is important, would it be an idea to save the money and look into javascript directly rather than paying for a development kit? Are there any jscript libraries that would make sense for such a project?

I know that the kit would save me a lot of time, on the other hand i feel like learning a widely used language makes more sense on the long run.

Any other suggestions?

I do have some python knowledge, also built a small game with pygame once, but I don't want to use it for this project. (If i even decide to realize it anyways... haha).

With the steam sale almost over I was thinking about td6 but is that a really good one? I realize it's only a dollar that's not the problem, but are there other deeply discounted ones that are really good?

I've just discovered this forum today, but I already feel at home here! After all, building a base is a bit like building your house, isn't it? I wanted to introduce you to a project I'm working on together with a group of people: Cosminers.

In this game you can build and develop your base, mine resources under the planet's surface, and at night defend your outpost from a horde of enraged monsters with your own hands, or with the help of automatic turrets!

And would you recommend any one game in particular?

Personally, I never cared much for classic adventures up until very recently. Aside from replaying Gabriel Knight SotF on loop for the past decade whenever the nostalgia hit, not much interested me to get back into them. Until I discovered the treasure trove of indie games that basically 9 out of 10 times fly under the radar because they’re just… that, small indie games, more experiences in themselves than mechanical giants with 500+ hours or replayability.

Well, this summer (sale)  I decided to fill my considerable backlog with all sorts of goodies — and I was utterly stunned by the narrative quality and easy-going, obnoxious fun I forgot you could have in games that aren’t high-octane combat RPGs like Elden Ring (the latest one that I burned out in). My latest find is a small gem called , and it’s probably the most original one too because of the origami-like puzzle mechanics where you flip and fold the “page” you’re on to progress. Weirdly, the mechanic stays pretty fresh even after 10+ hours despite how simple it is. I guess this is main appeal of adventure puzzlers I’m starting to slowly fall back in love with — that sense that you’re never doing the same old thing but always discovering something new and approaching the game world from a different angle with every new puzzle/interaction. Definitely want more of these games with unique twists on classic genres — more than I can find in the current market anyway.

I also finally gave and a try, and my god — the flashbacks to me playing visual novels (the non-XXX ones) back in high school were beyond real lol. The games themselves are just very well paced, and narratively Princess always gives you a different twist whenever you play it. They’re not classic point-and-click games ofc, but as adventure-experiences, I think they’re more than worth it just for their presentation and charm.

These are just some I got around to playing (work’s been a real byatch), but I got more besides to keep my library fresh till the next sale. Till then, I’ll just be enjoying my re-found love for the genre hahaha
