Looking for Adventure Games to Study Puzzle Design

I’m in the early stages of developing a game and I’m starting to focus on the puzzles section.

The game isn’t a point and click but from my research so far it really seems like adventure game puzzles are much more  in the  direction that I want to head .

Where puzzles have more context as to what the objects you’re interacting with are , rather than just pushing a block from A to B.

Are there any good games that people could suggest  for me to look at ?

I’m open to trying and learning form anything deemed good, but my gut says I’m looking for  something with mostly self contained puzzles , light on the inventory management  with creative animations

Anyone still enjoy playing the early point and click adventure games made in the 80/90s?

These games are part of my growing up years where games and PC are relatively expensive and I would play the hell out of a game to explore all possible paths and outcomes. Where we don’t have accessible guides like today and really, the likelihood of solving a game is by repeatedly playing, talking with others or owning a physical guidebook.

Games like Kings Quest, Space quest, quest for glory, beneath a steel sky…etc.

I love everything about the aforementioned games apart from the old ui and resolution haha.

It just seemed obvious that the games also received a lot of love from the creators.

Sci-Fi Dungeon Crawl/Adventure Games?

Does anybody have any recommendations for Sci-Fi themed dungeon crawlers or adventure games? I really like the look of Gloomhaven/Mage Knight/League of Dungeoneers/Shadow of Brimstone - but want something with a sci-fi setting. Big and crunchy games are fine with me, but want something that I can get a lot of replay out of, preferably with an ongoing campaign or some form of progression.

Any recommendations?

Would The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening be a good game for me if I do not enjoy RPGs? I like adventure games like Luigi’s Mansion

I don’t enjoy RPGs, they’re kinda overwhelming with a million customizations and crafting and whatnot. I enjoyed Luigi’s Mansion a lot. It was cosy, cute, relaxing and not too challenging.

So do you think The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening would be a good game for me? I don’t want to get it just because it is highly rated. For example the Witcher 3 is also highly rated but I didn’t enjoy it.

Are Daedelic's other adventure games different from Deponia?

Played deponia years ago and really did not like it. Mainly because of the main character and sometimes mean spirited and bigoted humour. However I'm now seeing that steam has a sale/bundle with 11 (9 for me since I already own two) of their games for 9.99. Seems like a steal, but I wanted to ask if their other games are different (dont have the things I mentioned as much) before I end up with 11 games I dont like in my library

fyi the games are, the first three deponia games(own the first), the whispered world, chains of satinav, a new beginning, memoria, night of the rabbit (also own), 1954 and the edna and harvey games.

Should I snatch this up or is it more of deponia esque writing?

Good adventure games for Genesis or DC?

I love playing my Genesis and Dreamcast but I feel like there’s just something missing. Great platformers, fighting games, action games, but how about adventure? I own Sword or Vermillion and Shenmue, and have played a bit of Phantasy Star, but I’m looking for something big and impactful to get sucked into the same way I would a Zelda game, or Elder Scrolls, Jade Empire, Golden Sun, RDR, Ghost or Tsushima, etc., and particularly for the Dreamcast though either or. I’m not really a fan of turn based but GS and FFVII were huge exceptions for me because I grew up with them

None of the games mentioned are really alike, but it’s the way that those games suck you in that I’m looking for. I hope someone gets what’s I’m going for here, as vague as it may be.

Overlooked modern adventure games

I see a lot of posts from people who are asking for games to play once they finished the classics such as day of the tentacle, space quest, grim fandango...

A lot of people reply with the same games but to me it seems a lot of games aren't mentioned. Deponia, runaway and sometimes the next big thing get an occasional shout out. But others...

Games like a vampyre story, ceville, ghost pirates of vouju island, Jack Keane, gray matter... Is there any reason for this? Are these just not as good as I remember when I first played them? Did they flop financially? I really wonder since I had a great time with them.
