What is the best way to do ads as a small streamer?

So, I'm a small channel (88 followers as of posting today), and right now I have my ads set to three minutes of ads per hour to kill incoming pre-roll. I have them set to go once per hour, and usually use that three minutes to stretch, refill water, etc.

However, since I'm a small streamer-- I would just like to know... Is there a better way to do them? I almost regret signing up for Affiliate when I did, because now it forces ads on my streams-- but at the same time, I really would like to make a living off of this since its hard to get a real job where I live...

I'm stuck between wanting to grow and enjoying a small community ^^'

https://preview.redd.it/thoughts-on-big-name-streamers-using-shared-accounts-to-v0-50bcmc7fjbbd1.jpg

In this case above, the challenger streamer is using a shared account to smurf in low ELO. The summoner bindings no longer match as soon as the challenge begins. A challenger player is now playing 30 games starting in low Silver, instead of the actual rank. Sharing the accounts allow for circumventing the natural matchmaking process, and they will stomp almost all games along the way. This will come at the expense of the game attempting to evenly match both teams.

There are many ways to make educational content such as VOD reviews, Coaching with Screen share, or demonstrating concepts / seminar. I am wondering what the communities thoughts are on such behaviors.

Small vent/tip: listen to other streamers even if they ain't famous

I apologies beforehand if this posts aren't allowed but I feel like it can be helpful to others too. A little bit of background info bcs it's gonna be important later: I started streaming in 2018 in italian, got affiliated and used to have my small but solid community (roughly average 10 viewers each stream). Stopped in 2020- or more specifically, started streaming rarely even 2/3 months- came back a month and a half ago rebranding my channel cos I started streaming in English. Basically started all over again, but I still got years of experience on my back (both on twitch and YouTube).

I started dating a guy a couple of months ago and helped him and 2 of his friends start streaming. Every time I tried giving them tips more on a "streamer" level rather than technical (ex. This messages are always bots, don't talk about private stuff, careful to not show your email address, etc) they'd pretty much ignore it and later in stream or not indirectly talk about it and imply that there was no point listening to that because I have less viewers than them and no subs. I still acted civil since this are my guy's friends and at the end of the day it's not my problem what they do.

One of them did a giveaway with cash. I was in the stream and told him that based off his country's laws it'd be illegal to do that because it'd count as gambling/lottery and he'd need a set of rules and a Notary(? Not sure if it's the right word) to do that. He laughed at my messages and went on with it. He had 20+ viewers, someone reported him and he got banned.

I left the stream before that cos I had to go to work, turned on my phone during my break to see this guy dm me, apologising for not listening to me and begging to help him "fix it".

He also said he previously had a warning (? He called me on discord later but he was hella confusing while explaining) for not moderating his chat (which I used to do until he told me to stop because "trolls give me more engagement").

The other person had their email account hacked into by a viewer after checking his emails on stream to flex their stats.

Moral of the story: just because someone doesn't have your same results, listen when they give you tips. You can go from 'slowly growing' to '15 minutes of fame' pretty quickly. I'm not happy nor 'satisfied' about this, quite the opposite. I'm pissed off petty viewers (for the 2nd one, the giveaway guy had it coming) exist and that he had to find out in such drastic ways. At the end of the day, if you don't listen to me or anyone else with more experience you'll get the consequences, not us. We gain nothing but nice things from helping each other out

Advice I have for me streamers

I’m not the biggest streamer but I’ve started to grow this past month more than ever and I’ve been streaming for 3 years and the biggest thing I can attribute that to is that I show love to other streamers (especially) small streamers . Even if it’s means just joking there stream for 5-10 minutes just to talk to them building that connection in returns makes them want to reciprocate that love. And also I would say make your discord and join other streamers discord !!!!

Small tip for small streamers that really helps with engagement + community building

Not sure if there's a post on this already, but I was thinking about it the other day when I was running through smaller channels and figuring out what made me want to watch them and drop them a follow , future raid etc etc

So you have all the usual stuff everyone talks about : being chatty, friendly, not having their music on 100 and all that jazz, webcam for interaction. But what was a real sort of "this seems like a cool place! I should come back more" was actually also, believe it or not, their mods (and VIPS) and their behaviour to first time chatters!

Most of the people who I dropped in and then came back to later streams were ALL of the above -- but then also they had just good and kind mods and VIPs. They would welcome me in and then maybe give me a quick run up of what's been happening or be jokey with me. Idk, just being the opposite of clique'y I suppose? I understand there's always going to be inside jokes and internal friendships in a streaming group , but as an outsider watching in (which is basically what twitch is), having the mods and the VIPS alongside the streamer be welcoming, quickly explaining the joke or what they're playing just feels like a great way of pulling them INSIDE the circle. Which really is a big attracting force for me personally and a lot of my online friends.

So yeh, your mods and VIPS are exceptionally important not only in keeping the peace but also maintaining a vibe and just being a good stream in general. Not to mention, it's a lot easier to bounce off good people than toxic people.

In a similar vein, if I pop into a stream and I like the streamer but their mods / VIPs are obnoxious or rude (or people just kinda talk over you as if you're not there) -- I'm just way less likely to rejoin that stream and definitely less likely to try chat EVEN if the streamer is amazing. So streamers , pick your VIPs and mods carefully, they're an extension of you and you will be judged by their behaviour too.

Been browsing this subreddit for a few days now and never saw any mention of how important this really is -- I guess it's subjective really, but imo it really does help with long term viewer engagement.

Big gift subs vs. big donations (for small streamers)

Big gift subs vs. big donations (for small streamers)

I have a genuine question and please don't automatically downvote me for my ignorance, I just want to know what you think. I'm a casual viewer of some Twitch streams and follow mostly only small ones. One of the small League of Legends streamers I watch once brought this up.

Someone offered to gift 50 random subs to the channel when the streamer had about 5-6 viewers. This is far from verbatim, but basically the streamer said "I appreciate that a lot, but if you're going to spend that kind of money supporting me I'd rather it be a $250 donation than spending $250 on gifting random subs. Most of the subs won't go to people who watch the stream and Twitch will get half of the support. A tip will send virtually 100% of what you're gifting toward the stream."

This made sense in my mind because since it might be true that most of the subs won't go to actual viewers, what's the point in gifting them to a combination of the few chatters they have, but the majority go to either random people or past chatters who have never come back? Let me also note that the streamer already has all the slots for emotes from having many subs in the past, so there's no incentive to unlock more emote slots for the streamer either. With that in mind, gifting to many random people or chatters that are rarely/never there, the streamer still loses half the revenue.

I know one argument for gifting the subs over the donation is "some people will see they got gifted a sub and come back to the stream." I have NEVER seen this happen in my life. Sometimes someone who was gifted will come into the stream and say "hey, whoever gifted, thanks for that," but I only saw it one time in someone else's stream, and they still never come back after that.

Some people might say "they can gift one active viewer/chatter at a time until they hit that 50 they were going to hit anyway." That can take days or weeks because of the size of the channel. This question/discussion is for small streamers, not partners. I know, sub goals for bigger streamers are a bigger deal and we won't go in to that. But for a small streamer, is mentioning that donations are better than gifting many subs something that makes sense to you?

People can support however they like, and people can spend it however they like. I'm aware there are even people who purposely buy bits and sub because they know half goes toward supporting the website. None of that is in question here. And, I'm not arguing one over the other, I'm genuinely curious if other small streamers besides the League one thinks the same way.

I’m feeling stuck as a streamer…

So I’ve already hit Affiliate status on Twitch. It’s great, like a dream come true.

The problem is that I’m feeling stuck, bound to playing only one game and one game only. That game is Smash Bros. I try to keep viewer interaction at the core of my streams, and when I stream Smash, it couldn’t go better. When I play any other games on stream, however, my viewer count tanks.

I love Smash, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t want the stream to be bound to JUST that.

https://preview.redd.it/apparently-fakers-1-hour-tiktok-livestream-sold-over-4-8m-v0-7h35wxbtpg8d1.jpg

According to the news article, Faker went on LPL's official TikTok stream for an hour promoting his Ahri HoL skin. In total they sold 4.81M CNY worth of Ahri bundles (3 bundles combined) in that hour. The most expensive signature edition sold 1154 sets.

This just shows how insane the Chinese market is, and how much money Riot is making even by selling bundles which is ~450USD. Also shows how whales clearly won't give a shit and Riot is most likely going to keep doing this.

Twitch Streamer CrazNeax leaves Valorant after facing poor treatment

A video of CrazNeax is currently going viral on TikTok, where he explains the AWFUL situation he has to deal with regarding the exclusive early access, which began after the VCT Masters Shanghai Finals ended. Here's a summarized version of what happened. If you're interested in the full story, you can check out his post below.

Full Video: https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSYSSjnjo/ (Retrieved from CrazNeax's Discord)

For those of you who do not know who CrazNeax is, he is a popular streamer in Singapore known for his funny VOD Reviews. He helps low elo players rank up with his unique coaching style and has assisted multiple people in the process. Additionally, he runs a huge LFG Discord Server in Asia to help people make new friends to queue with.

CrazNeax was contacted by one of Riot's marketing agencies and informed that he was invited to participate in the exclusive early access. He was instructed to announce his participation to his viewers and assured that he would receive access to his account before the early access began. However, on the day of the early access, they ghosted him. They did not reply to any of his emails, leaving him hanging.

He had to apologize to his viewers who were kept waiting and was heavily affected by this treatment from both Riot and their marketing agency. According to him, he was not the only creator facing this issue. He knew someone who had faced this twice in a row. He then mentioned how burnt out he is and that this case was the final straw. He decided to leave Valorant and create content for other games.

This has caused a huge uproar in the community in Asia, and his post has garnered over 150,000 views in just 3 hours. It's alarming to see how small creators are being treated poorly. There are only a handful of active Valorant streamers in Singapore, and CrazNeax is one of the biggest. It's worrying to see creators leave after being mistreated.

I hope Riot looks into this, and hopefully, this is just a technical mix-up because this does not look good for them at all.

Update:

CrazNeax finally got his access on the last day but had trouble finding lobbies as the admins in the private discord have not given him his region role. He showcased the new map on his stream, the new agent changes and informed his viewers that his decision is final and that his priority will no longer be Valorant. He says that he hopes both Riot and the marketing agency learn from this mistake and make sure it never happens again to any other content creator.

Hi, I'm working on my streaming set up and going through getting everything ready to start streaming, but I keep burning out on what name to use for my channel, youtube and socials. I have different names eveywhere and most are randomly made up, I don't have any nicknames to use and too many interests and hobbies to use just one in the name. Please send help.

I currently have a static one but originally had it set per stream. I wanted to change it to a cute static message, but I wonder if people prefer to have an idea of what the stream may be before even clicking. Do you even care?

I think a heads up is nice but it's not a turn off to me, and since I like them as a streamer, I don't really care what they're playing.

This is probably not an important thing to care about, but who knows, so I'm asking.

ETA: THIS is what I mean when I say you CAN have a static NOTIFICATION but you can have a CUSTOM stream title that shows up on Twitch. You can have both. Example: my friend's notification is that top one scribbled out but you can see her stream name is obviously not the same as what you see in the notification. https://imgur.com/a/nUSzRQL

Genuinely trying to become a more active streamer, but how do I network with other streamers?

Hi everyone I hope you’ve all been doing well! Since I’ve been working from home/SAHM I’ve been streaming more consistently and have been wanting to hit affiliate and network with other streamers to get my platform going. Issue is that I’m not sure how to reach out to others without getting blocked instantly or ignored. I truly do want to make new friends within the Twitch Community to game with and make a larger community for my following too. Any suggestions or where to go to meet new streamers?

I was just on tiktok and saw like 4 people streaming the new map and gun bundle, but then saw some of them only have like 1,000 followers and less than half a million likes on their page. I’m not complaining or want it to get taken away from them, I just wanna know how I get in on that. Is there a certain number of followers you need? Or do you just have to stream the game for long enough?

Again no hate, just genuinely curious.
