Not sure what to even think, I feel really bad.
To give some background, my son has never been interested in soccer. In fact, he doesn’t share any of the same interests as me. He isn’t into sports at all, or any of the other things I like. But I love my son, and he is free to like and have any interests he wants. He also gets extremely emotional a lot of times.
My nephew is 15, and we in fact do share a lot of the same interests. We both follow a lot of sports, we’re both into fitness, we go on runs, hikes, we box, we do mma. My sister (his mom) accompanies us often on these hikes and runs, as she is divorced and has a lot more free time on her hands.
My nephew is also stoic and I like that about him. He got that from my sister. My sister and I had a pretty rough childhood but one positive out of that is nothing fazes us too much or makes us overly emotional. For example, when my sister found out her husband was cheating on her, it hurt her for a couple of days but she got over it pretty quick, and she’s actually really happy now after the divorce. When I was cheated on by my ex fiancée, it hurt for a week, but I got over it and then met the love of my life, who I’m now happily married to.
My sister and I also grew up as huge soccer fans, so it didn’t surprise me that my nephew was a big soccer fan too. For my nephew’s birthday, I gifted him a ticket to a match in the Euros Tournament, which is now happening in Germany. I booked 3 tickets, one for him, my sister, and me. Before booking the tickets, I checked in with my wife, and she was ok with everything. I also checked in with my son, because I knew he sometimes gets a bit emotional about this. I asked him many times if he wanted to come, and he said no. So I booked the 3 tickets.
I just got back home from Germany a couple of nights ago. My sister, my nephew, and I all had a blast, my nephew said it was the greatest experience of his life, and my sister thanked me a lot too. I spoke with my son last night, but he just seemed sad. He asked how the game was; how Germany was, and I told him it was great. I showed him some pictures on my phone of Germany, and some pictures of the game. But just a couple of minutes after showing him the pictures, he broke down in tears. I’ve never seen him cry this much, and I was shocked. He then went up to his room. I can’t understand it, I feel really bad about everything.
Was I an AH? How do I proceed?
