I had an old polydor cd of this album from the early 1990s—you know those heavy-feeling old CDs where it’s all one continuous piece of metal? Anyway, it sounded absolutely gorgeous, but there was some serious tape hiss in the background. And it somehow got badly scratched through the years.

Japanese CDs have a reputation for higher quality, so I thought I’d try this. It’s perfect. Not too loud, the dynamics seem to be there, the tape hiss is gone, and it sounds beautifully musical. Nico’s voice floats above it like a spectre. Highly recommend this version. At around $15, it’s actually a great deal for a Japanese disc.
