PSVR1 is still a good machine

I've been seeing some recent posts and comments saying to give away the PSVR1 Headsets. Please don't do that. There's so many great games on that headset that will never come to PSVR2. On PS5 it still looks amazing with certain games, and all games run with thier PS4 Pro Patch (if they have one) or even better PS5 specific patches for VR1 games like and Blood and Truth, one that's definitely not coming to VR2. VR2 headsets can be had for 250-350 in most cases used. I'm sure if you can afford PS5 and VR1 you certainly can afford a Used PSVR2 without selling the Original. I don't intend this post to be negative or anything. I just want to say my peace

Meta support cant fix accounts that doesnt see montlhy sales

Its sad. Im pulling out meta quest with my husband and daughter. After 3 months in a row, he contact meta support cause only in his account the montlhy big sales doesnt appear. And so, he cant purchase bundles. And the worst part of this problem is the support from Meta. Right from the start, they lie to him telling the sales are regional, even he showing that me and our daughter, in the same house, are both access the deals. After that, they ask him to wait 2 or 3 business days for an answer. After the 10th day, the end of the sales, meta have the courage to answer that maybe its a problem with the browser. Conclusion: or its the worst support in the world or they are disrespecting us and a lot of users that have the same problem. We are done. Hope they change in the future if they want to grow among users.

Just tried AVP today …

I consider myself a seasoned vet when it comes to VR, having started in 2016 and been playing VR regularly ever since. I’ve tried about a dozen headsets starting with DK2 and currently own PSVR2, Q2, Q3 and QPro.

Today I had the privilege of using the AVP for the first time and I’d like to share my thoughts.

Comfort:

The demo had me use the comfort strap which has the additional band that goes over your head. The weight on my cheeks was immediately felt and was shockingly uncomfortable. I’d say it was probably the most front heavy hmd I’ve ever worn in fact, edging out Quest 1! Couldn’t imagine wearing this for more than my 30min demo and I can only imagine what the regular strap would feel like but I’d give comfort a 3/10!

Screen

The picture quality is immediately stunning and better than any headset I’ve tried. Resolution is incredible and colors are stunning due to the oled panels. That being said, the persistence blur is jarring to the point it had me feeling motion sick by the end of the demo. I play VR almost daily and have strong VR legs mind you. I can play GT7, Boneworks and most other games no problem yet this short seated demo with hardly any movement made me motion sick as I just looked side to side. I’m still feeling it hours later as I write this.

UI and Eyetracking.

Super impressive and worked pretty much flawlessly. Apple pretty much nailed this and it behaves as you would expect. No complaints there.

Pass through

Beats Q3 for sure. It’s not a 1-1 representation of reality but it’s about 60-70% there. I noticed a bit of noise and slight distortion when moving my hands but it’s easily the best pass through I’ve tried and the way it clips out your arms is amazing.

Most impressive demos

The landscape demo on the lake, dino experience and 8k 180 video experience were the most impressive. I actually jumped back at one point which really surprised me. Might be the first time that’s ever happened to me in VR so that says something about how immersive it was. There’s a realistic quality to everything which is unmatched by any other headset I’ve tried.

3d photos were a close second. They felt a bit like captured dreams which faded around the edges and there were 2 types. Shot with the headset and shot with an iphone. The former was an up close and personal birthday scene which looked a tad noisy with noticeable compression but it still looked great. The latter was a park scene which looked a hair less 3D and was farther away. I didn’t notice noise or compression as much. It’s neat but the prospect of wearing such a heavy device to view your photos is a non starter for me.

The movie theater experience was third and honestly has the most potential to be great. It feels almost 1-1 to being in a real theatre due to the oled blacks. The only thing I wasn’t sold on was the picture quality of the movie they showed which was the Mario movie. It looked 1080p but I’m sure it was probably the demo, as other things like the dino movie looked much higher res.

Overall takeaway

Comfort is the deal breaker. The weight pressed against your face is almost unbearable- especially coming from headsets like a Quest Pro which don’t rest on your face at all! 30min. Is all I could bare, so I’m not sure I’d use it much for that reason alone.

Even if the weight issue was fixed, the persistence blur is unbearable to the point I felt motion sick afterward. Moving your head side to side feels like really bad reprojection where everything goes out of focus until you stop.

Anyone with a Quest Pro or Quest 3 should be happy. Besides the oled, resolution and UI, it’s really close in terms of pass through and better in terms of optics at 1/7th the price.

What aspects of VR made you go ‘yup, this is what I’ve been lookin’ for’

Anything you can think of that really really caught you off-guard in the most positive way, even something that got you into VR to begin with. A specific feeling or maybe an interaction with something/someone, or some mechanic, or I guess a certain something that got you into a specific game (or genre)? Or hell, any combination and recombination that just blew your mind away and had you say — yeeeeah, this is *just* right.

Myself, I can think of about a dozen instances when something new or unexpected got me yawning like a madman. But if I need to single out one feeling or hmm, I guess a realization that things can be done differently, it was when I first started playing VR games with finger tracking instead of using the joystick. The first game was Thrill of the Fight of course since you have to rely solely on your movement. I might be just a bit of a boomer but actually using your hands in gameplay was something that I thought was only possible in the advanced future when I was a kid. And suddenly, the future was now! Now this is basically the only way I play boxing games, the most recent in line being Mutant Boxing League, which is much more chill and — dare I say – feels pleasantly arcadey with the ranking system and adjustable difficulties? Still, same responsivity that I felt in TotF aside from the fact that you’re not just rotting in your chair and getting carpal tunnel hah

The game that impressed me the most with this uh impression of having more autonomy (as opposed to just using a keyboard or controller regularly) was Brazen Blaze. One thing in particular – the way you have to either clench your fist, and then release, or make other finer movements to pull of special moves. It got me feeling like a superhero more than creating an OP character, simply because of that feeling of direct control you have of your character’s moves with YOUR moves. Bashing it out with other players just feels a lot more tense, and needless to say tickled my brain in just the right way as an old PvP enjoyer — just taken to the VR level (and hopeful to see how it develops tbh since the full release is just round the corner)

That’s just from a mechanical standpoint tho. I could also point to Into the Radius for how well it does the post-apocalyptic vibe, the pacing, and how the jump scares are so organically implemented that they don’t come off as cheap — basically, one continual feeling of tenseness and eerieness that culminates when it actually comes to combat. And I guess I could think of some other things but I ranted on too much. What about yourselves, any aspects of VR that really wow’d you and deserve mentioning?

When do you think Metro Awakening is gonna come out?

As someone who loves shooter, this is the most anticipated vr title for me in this year. I hope Vertigo Games will use a new gunplay system for this game, so the scenarios like “you have to press the button to release AKs magazine”, or “we have pump-action rifles instead of bolt-action ones because the game doesn’t support holding the gun by gripping the barrel one-handed” won’t happen again.
