2025 Ford Puma Gen-E electric car spotted testing
The Ford Puma city SUV will live on in Australia with this electric version – seen testing in Europe – after petrol versions were axed from local showrooms.
The upcoming electric 2025 Ford Puma Gen-E has been caught on camera in Europe ahead of its unveiling later this year, and an Australian launch to follow.
As previously reported by Drive, the Gen-E will be the sole version of the Puma city SUV sold in Australia after Ford dropped the petrol models earlier this year.
It is expected to be the company's most affordable electric vehicle (EV) yet in Australia, undercutting the $64,990 plus on-road costs Mustang Mach-E family SUV.
However it is unlikely the Puma Gen-E will be able to stoop to the $40,000 to $50,000 drive-away price range occupied by a growing number of EV models from Chinese brands.
The petrol-powered Ford Puma range – which will live on in Europe with an updated appearance – was priced from about $35,000 to $42,000 drive-away, and the electric version is unlikely to carry a premium of any less than $10,000.
Spy photos show differences between the petrol and electric Puma SUVs may be limited to a closed-off front grille for better aerodynamics, and a unique lower front bumper.
The alloy wheels, lights and rear bumper of the vehicle photographed are the same as the petrol model, but these could change for the production version.
The latest petrol Ford Puma's interior is expected to carry across to the electric Gen-E, with a super-sized 12-inch touchscreen, 12.8-inch digital instrument display and a two-spoke steering wheel.
The Puma Gen-E is expected to share a 100kW/290Nm front-mounted electric motor with the latest Ford E-Transit Courier city van sold in Europe – built on the same underpinnings, and in the same Romanian factory.
Driving range and battery capacity are yet to be announced for the E-Transit Courier or Puma Gen-E.
More details of the 2025 Ford Puma Gen-E are due closer to its Australian arrival sometime after its global reveal later in 2024.
