Was listening to the Alright Mary podcast episode where Alexis was talking about the pilot and it reminded me what a sweet little show this is - I know COVID changed everything, but does anyone know if it will be getting a second season?

Over the past month or so, I’ve been branching out from my usual fare of RuPaul’s Drag Race to see what other drag-related media there were, and I stumbled upon these three shows.
They have a similar premise, where a team of drag queens visit different towns in order to help various people who need it. In We’re Here and Drag SOS, the queens help locals put on a drag show, whereas in Dragnificent they help the subjects prepare for an event in their lives, much like Queer Eye.
The queens are all amazing; no doubt about that. It’s nice to see some of the old timers again, like Bebe and Shangela, as well as get to know more British queens we never got to see in RPDR UK. They do their best to try and help those they’re mentoring, and always want to see them succeed.
Now, I have noticed a difference in the level of enthusiasm between the participants in We’re Here and Drag SOS, in comparison to the ones in Dragnificent.
In the former, you can really see how excited and happy these people get when they see their makeover, when they perform onstage, and even after the event. There are some awkward moments, and people who clearly don’t feel as comfortable onstage as others, but they are very obviously happy with the experience. Even in the heavier episodes, with the guy who couldn’t accept his own sexuality, or the mother whose lesbian daughter won’t talk to her; you can see the satisfaction and pride in their faces at the end of the night.
Contrast that with Dragnificent, where sometimes I see the subjects talk about how grateful they are to have the queens’ help, how much they need it, how happy they are with their new look etc. but their facial expressions don’t quite reflect that. They can be smiling with their lips, and it doesn’t quite reach their eyes. There are also instances where the queens spring things on the participants unexpectedly, like them having to perform at a club, and you can see the fear in their eyes while they stand there looking like a deer in headlights.
Now I’m not saying that all the participants in Dragnificent are unhappy with the things that transpired, but some of them noticeably are, and the show seems to just push past their discomfort and have them continue talking about how happy they are, even when it doesn’t really show on their faces.
I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the production team trying to force certain storylines on the subjects, in order to create more interesting reality TV. I don’t blame the queens at all because they’re absolutely delightful and obviously doing their best, but something doesn’t quite sit right with the subjects.
Curious to see what others who have watched the shows think.
