Plugins... People keep missing the point

Local first, plain text.

This two things convinced me to move my notes to obsidian. Best decision ever.

At that time we had no mobil app, but we could just as easy use some markdown app to access/work on our notes.

It was (ar least for me) never about the app, but about the longevity of my notes, and no friction when creating them.

Today I wanted to remind you about that. Are you producing notes that are just not readable without a cool plugin? Nothing last forever my friend, and cool free opensource plugins might not have any volunteers for maintaining it in the future.

Less is more, a cool plugin will not magically make you focus or produce more. Most of the time is just another excuse for procrastination.

If your still thinking about formatting more than you do about the content of your note, your could just go back to oneNote or Word.

Edit: I am sorry I generalized like that in this post. I wanted to remind you about the first reasons that motivated Obsidian development but it came condescending and judgmental 🫤... Luckily I have a lot of practice apologizing thanks to my wife 😳🙂

Just passed the PL-300 with a 927! My thoughts..

As the title states, passed the PL-300 with a 927! This cert gets mentioned a ton in this subreddit, for good reason too! I figured I might as well give my thoughts and advice on anyone who was looking to take this exam.

Thoughts

Personally, it was actually a real simple exam. Granted I have personal (no professional) expereince using the tool, so I was comfortable with all the terminology. Finished the test in about 25 mins, and that was with me double checking all of my work. Depending on the resources you decide to use (a huge determing factor-explained later) you should be able to pass this test with relative ease.

What should I do to give myself the best chance to pass?

As aforementioned, I'm familiar with Power BI, but I'll give a rough estimate on how I personally feel people on different levels should tackle this.

Professional Experience With Power BI- Inlcluding Entry Level

For anyone with even 2-3 months of Power BI experience, you should be able to pass this cert within 2 weeks max by just going thourgh MS Learn (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/courses/pl-300t00) and taking the sample tests. Every knowledge gap I had was essentially covered with this test, and I would also recommened doing the labs provdied as well. Worst case scenario- look for a exam dump so you get the feel on how the test is formatted, so at least you have a general idea.

For everyone else- including those who are taking this with no experience using Power BI

I'm gonig to preface this by saying this- please have at least some familiarity with the tool before taking this certification. Main reason being, while you do not need to be proficient in Power BI to pass the cert, it'll almost a guarentee that you won't do well in any intervew if your only experience with the tool is through your time trying to pass this cert. However, even with that in mind..

You should 100% do the Microsoft Learn that was mentioned above. In fact, I might as well say this should be mandatory for those individuals. Afterwards, you should take two Udemy courses. Phil Burton's PL-300 cert prep is awsome because you actually learn how to use the tool while taking the course, and Maven Analytics PL-300 prep course serves as a nice refresher to the topics you'll def need to know on the test. Lastly, look for exam dumps, again so you're familiar with how the test is formatted. At minimum this should be at least a two month process, three at the absolute max with consistent studying.

I'd say that over 80 percent of my test were questions I saw almost word for word or VERY similar. Please do not try to memorize the dumps, or any material though. That is why I stress doing the labs provided in any study material you use. If you get stuck in a question, you can sometimes refer back to the times you used the tool.

All in all, feels great to finally be done with this. Good luck everyone! Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, though depending on the day I may not be able to answer in a timely manner.
