FFWD - INTA 001 CD 94

REPOST Request:  What I wrote before:  Since I had the repost request above for another band called FAST FORWARD, thought I would finally convert this old CD.  Learned about them from reading an interview with Trent Reznor at the time who was into the new 'Ambient Music' wave turning me onto the Orb for the first time and others.

John B. Sebastian - st LP 70 w Real Live LP 71 w The Four Of Us LP 71

REPOST Request:  What I wrote before:  Founding member of the Loving Spoonful I found more albums by John at Goodwill but turns out two were the same self titled one from 1970 (as shown) in middle above.  Goes nicely with my little Woodstock appreciation posts this week as last week  I saw the "Lost Performances" VHS from 1990 and he did a great show!

Butterfingers - st CD 70 - cc

COLLECTOR'S CHOICE:  A big thanks to Jon for sending in this band link last week after his "Jungle" submission.  I will use his words for this absolute psychedelic/prog rock classic: Originally released as a demo on the private Pot label circa 1970. Was issued in a plain white sleeve and had an inner with handwritten lyrics. Less than 10 copies known.

Antonio Carlos Jobim - The Composer Of Desafinado LP 63 w Jobim LP 73 w Urubu LP 76 w LEROY HOLMES - BOSSA NOVA LP 62

REPOST Request:  What I wrote before:  Well after reading the album cover of the Rod McKuen 'Something Beyond" LP from 1967, the writer spoke of three game changers back then in music to add to Rod's album mentioning Henry Mancini (I will post in two weeks about 7 more of his vinyl I knew I had but couldn't find with last post so only posted three or so--thus lots more to enjoy coming soon!) and then mention the third as the very first collaboration between Antonio Carlos Jobim and Claus Ogerman and that is the Bossa Nova album from Leroy Holmes from 1962 but I also had Jobim's first also with Ogerman from 1963 album so you got both in this posted added to previous.

PHILIP BAILEY - CHINESE WALL LP 84

Had to feature Philip on main post this week as he was quite a surprise to learn about after finding this at Goodwill.  The song 'Easy Lover' that he does with Phil Collins was immediately recognizable and then I learned he was one of the leaders in Earth, Wind & Fire another great band.  Interesting that I should pull it out of the stacks same time as I learn about and post Lou Courtney below from the 5th Dimension!  Per Discogs: Real Name: Philip James Bailey

Profile: Singer and songwriter, born 8 May 1951 in Denver, Colorado. Father of Philip Doron Bailey. Married to Valerie Davis.

One of the leaders of Earth, Wind & Fire since 1971. Also active as a solo artist since 1982, recording gospel and R&B as well as pop hits like 1984's "Easy Lover", a duet with Phil Collins.

Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010

Side Note:  His "I Go Crazy" came out same year as the Prince hit "Let's Go Crazy".

TONIGHT - Wheels 7 78 w Jealousy Kills (Beware) 7 78 w Drummer Man 7 78 w Money That's Your Problem 7 78 w Drummer Man CD 78 10

Well, if you liked BRAKES band last week you will also enjoy this band from same era and place.  Gotta love that 1978 year for music as I do.  When getting the Brakes 7 inch I noticed the Discogs vendor had all these 7 inches by TONIGHT except for the 'Wheels" one that I had to get at the same time but had missed seeing the CD.  Luckily saw the CD later with extra songs on it and ordered it during the ripping of the vinyls.  But what a surprise to find out the CD was from an old record store in Golden Valley, MN that I used to go to on occasion so this time they really had my back!  You can read all about the band from the CD text.

Not bad from Goodwill.  Per Wiki:  Glenn Alan Medeiros (born June 24, 1970) is an American former musician, singer, and songwriter. He achieved worldwide international chart success in the late-1980s and early-1990s. He is best known both nationally and internationally for his 1987 George Benson cover, "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You", which reached No. 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Canada and Europe.

After his musical career peaked, Medeiros taught and was vice-principal at the Maryknoll School, a parochial school in Honolulu, Hawaii, and as a professor at Chaminade University, a private Marianist university that shares its grounds with Saint Louis School. In 2015, Medeiros became the Head of School/Principal of Saint Louis School in Honolulu, and in 2017 its president/CEO.

LOU COURTNEY - SKATE NOW bw SHING-A-LING LP 67

This here find at Goodwill is a key platter for Soul Music and a top genre for me.  I had no idea he was in the 5th Dimension.  Couple of songs beat up but cleaned up reasonable well.  Per Discogs:   Born: August 15, 1943 in Buffalo, NY, U.S.A.  Died: Jun. 25, 2021 in New York, NY, U.S.A. (R.I.P.)

Courtney had a minor impact on the soul music scene in the 60s with a series of dance hits that could be considered a proto-funk style. He made his first record for Imperial Records in 1962, but much of his work over the next few years was behind the scenes, writing with producer Dennis Lambert; he wrote songs for artists such as Mary Wells and Chubby Checker credited with his birth name Louis Pegues. In 1966, Courtney signed with Riverside Records and began recording a series of dance hits that made him a national star, notably ‘Skate Now’ (number 13 R&B, number 70 pop) from 1967, and ‘Do The Thing’ (number 17 R&B, number 80 pop). He went to Buddah Records in 1968 and recorded ‘Tryin’ To Find My Woman’, which did not chart at the time of its release but later became a cult favourite among UK northern soul fans. Courtney spent a period as lead vocalist with the Packers (who recorded ‘Go Ahead’). In 1973, he began working with producer Jerry Ragovoy, and had a hit single with ‘What Do You Want Me To Do’ (number 48 R&B) on Epic. A second single on the label, ‘I Don’t Need Nobody Else’ (number 67 R&B) from 1974, was Lou Courtney’s last chart record. His new band Buffalo Smoke released an album on RCA Records in 1976, but their proto-disco style failed to make a commercial impact.    I supposed rollerskating indoor rinks were just getting made at this time.

SOCA FACTORY - st LP 93

This one kind of belongs to the theme of three albums below but stands on it's own for the fast music from a later year of 1993.  Surprised to find on cool blue vinyl!

LOS NORTE AMERICANOS - THE BAND I HEARD IN TIJUANA Vol. 2 LP 67

Love this cover and theme however this is only volume 2 that I found at Goodwill thus would like to hear the first.  This one is cool because I think their version of "Spanish Flea" is the one I used to hear on the radio all the time and that still goes through my head on occasion.
