Dance Moms

During season 7 kaya made fun of Daviana's mom's foreign accent. Like why is nobody calling her out for being racist towards Daviana's mom just because she has a foreign accent (her accent is perfectly understandable if you ask me)? she shouldn't make fun of someone just because they have a different culture or nationality or language than her, its just racist and rude. Her actions are very hypocritical, as Kaya is always talking about her racist and discriminatory experience on dance moms, and always advocates against discrimination, making her actions very hypocritical.

edit: many of you in the comments pointed out how this is xenophobia not racism.

Mine is that I feel like Kendall IS an OG. She may not have been there since season one or pre-show, but she did endure 5 very formative years of Abby. I think she is the only new person who can truly understand what they went through. She received the most damage of any new person and ended up getting treated like an OG by Abby.

This week we will be attending Fierce in Fresno!!!!

The group dance is called “From Russia Without Love” Maddie you will portray the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy channel the hero good guy behavior you already have in you and Chloe you will portray the Russian President Vladimir Putin channel the evil controlling energy your mother has. Kendall and Mackenzie you will portray the Ukrainian citizens and Nia, Brooke, and Paige you will be the Russian citizens.

Maddie you have a Contemporary solo called “Road Trip” you will be portraying Gabby Petito. I need to see that sadness and fear in your eyes.

Chloe you have a Lyrical Solo called “Jodi” you will be portaying Jodi Arias and will be using a Photography Camera as a prop. You will need to channel the sociopath and manipulative energy of your Mother.

Kendall you have a Contemporary solo called “Rue” you will be portraying Rue from Euphoria the solo was originally going to go to Nia but since Jill took me to Baskin Robbins last night and brought me a new hair bumpit. You will get the solo instead

Mackenzie you have a Acro Jazz solo called “Moon Pie”you will be playing a Moon Pie.

Mine is probably that I started out loving Christi, but as I’ve grown up and watched again ,I truly think she’s one of the most toxic moms on the show.

So I am currently re-watching Season 3, my first real rewatch as a full adult, and there are so many fucked up things I am noticing about this show with these fresh eyes. There is so much I could discuss, but, for starters, I am so disturbed by how Asia is presented in the show, but also how she has continued to be presented at 16, 17, 18, 19. As a child, ALL of Asia's dances were SO sexual. There's something to be said for her having star power, charisma and energy, but every time her mom makes a comment about her "not dancing cutesy," and "dancing FIERCE," or something about her just being "more mature," it all seems like a shallow attempt to avoid her admitting that she has her 8 year old dancing like a stripper and making bedroom eyes towards the audience. Asia isn't dancing "fierce" or "mature" in these dances, she is dancing "sexy." It's just gross, and the looks on the faces of some of the male judges is enough to make me feel nauseous. And I follow Asia on Instagram now, and although she is fully an adult at this point and can do whatever she wants, it is clear that this over-sexualization has followed into her young adulthood. (edit: this is before she just archived all of her stuff for this new music promotion) I was shocked to find out she wasn't even at least 20 yet: posing scantily clad in bikinis at 16, 17, 18, etc. Obviously there is a lot of pe do file discussion with the OG show, and much that could be said, but literally HOW was this sort of thing allowed on national television? I feel so sad that Asia has experienced this her entire life. Does anyone agree with me on this? All of the previous asia discourse in the reddit doesn't seem to bring this issue up.

I’m obsessed with the music from Maddie’s Ballerina solo, it’s consistently been in my Spotify wrapped for the last couple of years. Should out to Alex Grant, I’ve probably listened to it a million times.

I also LOVE maddies Vertigo solo song. Has anyone been able to find it on Spotify???? Pls send if you can.

I actually like seven dancers I think it’s super cute and different to what the girls usually do. It has a mix of everything and the girls acting was super strong.

I see a lot of people throwing around information on here about the girls before the show. I just did a deep dive on multiple websites to find the exact results of Maddie and Chloe’s successes before the show.

Let me start by saying that there were multiple competitions out of the dozens that they competed where the girls were not even in the same age category.

A lot of people seriously claim that Maddie beat Chloe all the time before the show, but that’s just not true. Truthfully, Maddie won mostly for her tap solos, and whenever she had something from a different genre, Chloe usually one. They went back-and-forth a lot like that. Regardless, they were both either 1 2 or 3 which is impressive and its own right.

The biggest thing I learned? I totally see where Christi was coming from with the standing tap solo. That was the majority of Maddie’s wins. Meanwhile Chloe was getting new stuff. I learned that the slight unfair advantages actually started before the show. Even worse than I thought.

Anyway, here is the information I found on the websites:

Let’s start in 2011 and go backwards, just so we can see right up to where the show starts:

Chloe’s solo “Ma He’s Making Eyes at Me” beat “Somewhere over the rainbow” once and one of Maddie’s tap solos once at the same competition before the show started filming at JUMP in early 2011. Good day for Chloe!

Chloe also beat her again with the same solo by winning DEA nationals Miss Small Fry. Maddie got 1st in the category, and Chloe won the overall title for that division.

Again, this is right around the time of the show was starting to air.

Once the show was filming, that one competition where it looked like Maddie won first place for Cry, and it looks like Chloe lost? Chloe actually won first place in her division, the junior division, for Ma he’s making eyes at me. Once again, making her look like she’s not as good… but we all saw which girl got squeezed and hugged by her teacher afterwards. And which one was told “you were good but need to fix blah blah blah” 🙄

Before that, Chloe won National Miss Star Fry at DEA 2010, and Maddie placed first in the category but did not win the title. Chloe did.

2009: Maddie did a standing tap private all year. Melissa and Christi said this. Her tap solo beat Chloe’s ballet twice at 2 different comps (listed below) This is exactly what Christi was talking about in Season 1 Episode 4. This is proof. Chloe was not able to get into a private slot consistently because Melissa worked the front desk and put Maddie in for tap every week. Maddie became great at tap from those extra weekly privates and that’s important to acknowledge because extra practice and attention matters.

Again at DEA NYC 2009, maddies tap solo took the top awards and Chloe’s ballet got 2nd.

Dance Masters of PA- Maddie won once again with the SAME tap solo. She won the title for her division, and Chloe was runner up. Chloe’s switched to musical theater. She did not compete the same solo and instead got a new one. Another unfair advantage.

Maddie beat Chloe again with the SAME tap solo at another dance masters competition…at the next competition (another dance masters), Maddie didn’t place with her tap solo and chloe got 2nd in an age category slightly above (Division 2). So again my point, they often went back and forth with how well they placed. It’s also an ADVANTAGE that Maddie had an ongoing tap solo and Chloe’s were often changing.

Maddies same tap solo once again beat Chloe’s musical theater at Intrigue in April 2010…are you noticing yet that tap does better especially in smaller markets like PA 💀 I live here so I know. Those taps privates didn’t hurt either. Also at intrigue, Maddie completed her first jazz solo and won first place. She had 2 solos, bringing up Christi’s point again on how she always had an extra chance to be 1st place.

Here’s a switch! At the next competition Onstage NY, Maddie didn’t place (her second time doing her jazz solo, big bow wow) and Chloe got 2nd in same age category. Again, back and forth with their success rate. One week, one as well, next week the other does. Also, people need to keep in mind that every single competition judge is different. It’s not just about technique points, it’s also about the choreography and some judges might prefer musical theater over tap or tap over jazz, etc. But we can see a trend of tap being a favorite in this market at most of these competitions. Or else Abby would never have continued to have Maddie go out there and compete tap every single week.

Applause Talent- Big Bow Wow did not place yet again- notice how those tap solos usually are winning and not her other genres? When a child gets a lot of practice in a consistent genre, her chances of winning increase. Meanwhile Chloe went between ballet and musical theater with no private opportunities and no specialities.

At applause Chloe got 3rd against Bow Wow. And Maddie won again with her same tap solo- she got 2 solos, yet again, an unfair advantage considering she had the double the chance to win and her tap had tons of extra rehearsal. At flat competition, the technically each beat eachother once.

At DEA NYC Nationals- Maddie won the small fry division and Chloe won the Small Fry Overall Title. Which shows that she was consistent with her musical theater solo and won the title for it. Maddie’s Bow Wow which competed against Chloe’s musical theater, did not win the title. Her tap won the division.

Maddie won with her lyrical at Nuvo in early 2011 against Ma He’s Making Eyes at Me. At Jump a few months later, Chloe beat Maddie with Ma.

Dance Educators of America, Maddie got 3rd with tap and 1st with lyrical- but Chloe won DEA title for Ma. Another tile win.

At Fire and Ice, Chloe beat Maddie again. April 2011

DEA Nevada Nationals they were in different categories. Maddie won her title in small fry division and Chloe got 2nd overall in juniors and it was her first time competing in juniors so she was at bottom of age group.

And then at that point we get to the show…..and we all know at that point Chloe got less and less strong choreo as the show went on.

I just took the time to go through these websites. This is recorded info. So for the people who said Maddie always beat Chloe- she didnt- only for her tap solos, with which Chloe beat her a few times as well. They were always neck and neck as both moms said. 1 2 or 3. Chloe beat her a few times with a strong solo like Ma, and Maddie beat Chloe with mostly ever tap lol. And she had that tap private every week AND she often had 2 solos. The slight unfair advantages are very clear.

So for the people that try and say that Maddie was miles ahead of Chloe, she very clearly wasn’t. She was in tap, but that’s it. As an overall dancer, both girls were competing and winning or receiving second and third equal the same. They were both fantastic, and these silly comparisons are ridiculous. People are desperate for Maddie to always be seen as the best when there was many times that she wasn’t. Obsessive fans need to get over themselves.
