Boomer goes off about my lack of “moral compass” while I was taking a dying woman to church

I’m a 21 year old female, and i’ve been volunteering at a hospice home for over 6 months now. It’s a two bedroom nonprofit that is completely run by volunteers and funded by donations. We prioritize residents who are poor, homeless or mentally ill. I absolutely love my volunteer work and it has been the most impactful experience in my entire life.

We welcomed a new resident anne, on Wednesday. Anne has a history of mental illness and homelessness. She has stage 4 cancer and was given 6-12 weeks to live. In the short time i’ve known Anne, i have grown very fond of her. Unlike our typical residents, Anne is very independent and loves to chat for hours. When Anne arrived she expressed interest in going to a local catholic church for mass and of course, I offered to pick her up and take her to a service.

I arrived to the house today to pick up Anne for the Saturday evening service, and “boomer” volunteer was there at the house. “Boomer” expressed excitement when I told him I was here to take Anne, he said “oh how wonderful, another catholic”. I explained that I was actually not religious at all and was just doing this for Anne. He scoffed at this and asked “didn’t your parents ever take you to church?”, I said no, I have never been to church, I was raised by two agnostics and religion was never part of my upbringing.

This was a mistake to say and Boomer immediately launched into an anti-young people rant.
“See, this is what’s wrong with your generation. You guys have no faith. This is why this country is going to shit. They need to raise the voting age to 25. This is why you all have no moral compass and no ethics, in my day people had MANNERS thanks to the teachings of Jesus”

I just said “Okay we’ll i’m going to check if Anne is ready to go, have a good day”. Then I left for church absolutely flabbergasted. I know volunteering attracts a lot of retired religions boomers but all of them have been so nice to me and appreciate having younger volunteers.

Anyways, while church wasn’t for me, it felt so good to see Anne so happy. I am excited to take her again next week (and hopefully avoid boomer this time).

Boomer wants me to turn down a full scholarship to Yale so "I won't be indoctrinated"

Boomer wants me to turn down a full scholarship to Yale so "I won't be indoctrinated"

I (18M) got very lucky and was accepted to Yale with a full scholarship for undergrad, which is where I'll be going in the fall. I also work part-time as a cashier at my local Publix (a southern supermarket). I've had my fair share of interesting people come through my line, but this was the most interesting encounter I've had in a while.

It was late in the evening, and this boomer comes through my line. Polite as she could be (at first). Until she noticed my apron. Cashiers at Publix have to wear aprons so I had affixed to mine a little Y pin on my apron to show some school pride. Edit: my store is right near a college so the students who attend that college will wear pins to show their school pride, hence why I wore a Yale pin.

The lady notices the pin as I’m ringing her up and asks what it’s for and if that's for some trade school or community college. I tell her that I'll be going to Yale in the fall on a full scholarship.

Immediately her demeanor changes and she loudly proclaims that I had made a terrible choice, and that I am going to be indoctrinated. Indoctrinated into what? Who knows! She also proclaimed that she is part of the greatest generation because she wasn't indoctrinated. After I gave her the receipt, she ended with a stern warning not to get involved with the "satanic bones and skull bullshit" and that she was just looking out for me, a random cashier she had just met.

Needless to say, I will be respectfully declining to heed her advice. Funnily enough, that was the third boomer to say something along the lines of that I should turn down Yale or that I was going to be indoctrinated. One of the boomers who told me that was an adjunct professor at a local university.

You don't look disabled

My wife and I were doing our weekend grocery shopping and parked in one of the disabled spots. My wife is disabled but you wouldn't know by looking at her, she masks it pretty well. She has a disabled Parking permit that she doesn't always use because she feels like there are other people who need it more. I tell her she should use it today because she was having a flair up. I was helping my wife out of the car when this boomer couple was coming out of the store. The boomer wife yells at us from a good distance away "YOU DON'T LOOK DISABLED!". This isn't the first time this has happened and we just ignore it. As she comes closer she didn't lower her voice at all and kept screaming "YOU CAN'T PARK THERE! ". We try and keep our cool and walk past them as we go into the grocery store. As we reach the door we hear behind us "I'M GOING TO FIND THE MANAGER".

What the fuck is wrong with these people.
