I have been so scared to read anything since I watched the final. But I felt brave today and read some of your post and I wanted to thank you guys for the compassion and thoughtful words. I know that we are the ones that chose to be on these shows and share our lives to the public and because of this we should be able to handle any criticism and judgement of our character that comes out way. But I promise we are just people with the same insecurities and fears and feelings as everyone else. Maybe even more so in some ways because we are constantly having to see and hear so many different perspectives about ourselves that it often makes us question who we really are to begin with. But I just wanted to thank you guys for the kind words and tell you how much they mean to us all. I swear to you that life is a circle and everything you put out into the universe Good or Bad will always find its way back to you. That postive energy you send out will always find its way back to you whenever you need it the most. This is my promise. I contemplated posting this because there are already so many posts about the Leah, JaNa, Connor situation but I wanted a conversation from a different lens.

I want to start by saying that of course JaNa isn't perfect. These are all young human being who have their individual flaws and signed up to be on reality TV. I don't belive in "staning" human beings that are just like me and fallible.

But it's really frustrating seeing how JaNa is being held to unrealistic standards, while everyone else is allowed to have their emotions and shown sympathy/ grace.

And this leads to the societal expectations for black women, who are constantly expected to deal with things and villainized when they react (and even when they dont). We see plenty of examples of JaNa being criticized by other Islanders and the public for having regular human emotions while other Islanders were given the absolute benefit of the doubt.

• Rob "blindsided" Leah by picking Andrea and everyone rightfully recognized his behavior as gaslighting when she ended up comforting him VS it's rarely pointed out that Leah did the same gaslighting when JaNa ended up comforting her after Conner decided he wanted to speak with Leah

• Leah is justified for being angry, yelling, and cursing at Rob because he betrayed her VS JaNa is called out for simple shade, despite her not yelling or cursing at anyone and rightfully feeling betrayed

• Islanders coddling and sympathizing with Leah for how Rob switched up on her VS very few Islanders consoling JaNa for feeling that same betrayal (even the girls she consoled throughout their hardships, Serena & Leah)

• Leah being allowed to be mad at Andrea, who was a bombshell (both a stranger and designated to do this task) VS JaNa is overreacting for being upset with Leah, despite this being her close friend and coming entirely out of nowhere

• Leah and Serena just "being silly" and "giving us drama" in randomly bad mouthing JaNa who is supposed to be their good friend VS jaNa was being shady and "a mean girl" (yes someone has called her this) for interrupting for 3 seconds to give someone eggs and then apologizing genuinely multiple times

My point is, if you don't see the difference in treatment I genuinely don't know how. Leah, Serena, and all other girls and guys on the show are allowed to have their feelings. There's NOTHING wrong with that! All I'm saying is, JaNa should be allowed to have those feelings as well without being so harshly judged by half the LI audience. It's all fun! This is an amazing season. I just think we can offer some more empathy to all the Islanders.

Edit: I just want to clarify, I've made it incredibly clear I know this is a show, a game, and tv. And I'm aware I don't know any of these people outside of what the show has shown us so far. However, I think posts like this are incredibly important because it's discussion on media and racial biases, who some may not notice until they see things like this. Yes, this is a show. But everything I've said is real life for many people.

Mine is not being able to wear sunglasses. I am useless in the sun without them.

I’m currently watching season 5 and Ariana is obviously now an icon and everyone loves her, but does the way she acts in the early seasons bother anyone else? I feel like she truly feels that she’s above everyone. I also think there is no warrant for the way she treats Stassi. Stassi did have problems with being manipulative in the first few seasons but in season 5 she really seemed like a different person and she tried so hard to be in good graces with Ariana as well as everyone else and Ari just will NOT give her a chance, but is head over heels for Sandoval, who has done much worse than Stassi. Her judge of character isn’t as good as she makes it seem.

The whole gang

My wife told me before the season she was THE perfect choice to replace Padma. Boy was she correct.

She has the perspective of a chef, not only to win, but to go through LCK.

She brings such heart to the show. When she got emotional, I got emotional. This is an important dimension the show needs, and at times lacks.

She "plays well with others". Her personality is not too strong when communicating with the judges (looking at you Tom).

Her technical knowledge and analyses of the food is always on point.

Tom clearly lovers her like a daughter.

Last, and I know this does not really matter, she is beautiful and perfect for TV.

My and my wife love her. Don't know what else to say. With some of the negativity around this season I felt like this is something positive we can focus on.

I’m sorry but why am I seeing posts on end asking why people like a certain Islander? (And when reasons are given, they go on to say the reasons aren’t logical?)

Are we a monolith? Where does it say that we have to like the same things or people or have the same views on situations?

1. Every single Islander is being trolled. Your fave isn’t special or an isolated case. Stop making posts trying to act like certain stans are worse than others.

2. Calling people names like “crazy, insecure, obsessed, unhinged” because they like or vote for an Islander you don’t like is so weird.

3. None of these islanders are saints. Each one of them will explore any possible connection as long as it means they get to stay in the Villa longer.

4. Your opinion is just that, YOUR OPINION. Does not make it right (or law).

5. The Love Island fans who speak about an Islander not being “girls girl” then body shame them in the same breath have got to be weirdest of the bunch.

6. Your favourite girl/boy isn’t above anyone in that Villa. They all came individually to get an experience. They don’t owe each other any unspoken loyalty.

7. The bandwagon hate train has got to be the corniest thing I’ve seen happening on this sub.
