What does one need to do to ensure my dependent parent is taken care of in case something happens to me?
My father (77) is dependent on me and currently we’re managing. I have begun to wonder what I should do as preparation to have my parent taken care of if I die.
I’m not sure the government of India will do anything, and I’d like to prevent a situation where there are funds but he’s still starving. He no longer knows how the finances are being managed and how the house is being run.
There is no other family in the picture. We currently have a maid and full time caretaker.
It’s not like I’m sick or something, but my anxiety gets the better of me and I wonder about freak accidents. Is this something a Will should help with or are there other things I should do?
Suggest some good baby powder brands in India. I use sebamed and it is very expensive.
Where can I buy authentic banjara jewellery? Any leads?

Since childhood i dreamt to travel, as I was never allowed to go on school picnics as well. only thing I imagined then, will grow up, earn & will go.

Hi, American here, how the hell do I make chicken tikki masala?
I traveled and spent over a month in India (Delhi to be specific).
And I fell in love with the various foods. I always tried every restaurant tali plates if they had one. But there were 3 foods I fell in love with.
An aloo type curry.
Paneer masala
And chicken tikki masala.
I have been trying to make the chicken tikki masala. And the recipes I follow just don't feel like they're authentic. It feels like an American version.
I take the various spices, marinate the chicken in oil/spice blend. I simmer down the onions, oil, and then tomato juice/paste. Once the chicken half cooked or so I mix it all in and let it simmer, add the yogurt and whipping cream. Let simmer some more.
It comes out... Decent for an "American" style chicken tikki masala but it doesn't taste like it did in Delhi.
What am I doing wrong?? Any advice??
Looking to buy a good leather wallet, wanted to buy a coach wallet, but do not trust ajio or any other online seller, even thought of buying bellroy, but they aren't as good, does anyone own a luxury wallet (coach, LV etc), trom where did y'all buy it and how has the experience been owning it

I have a property in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, a little before Manali. It's somewhat offbeat, has a private stream running through, a couple apple and plum trees, and can accommodate around 15-20 people at a time. There's also space for setting up tents and all.
It's been vacant for some time now, and I want to put it to some good use. I have hosted several people in the past, and almost everyone suggested me to turn it into an artist's retreat. Now, I do like the idea, but I don't really want to be involved in the process and the property.
How should I proceed, what else can I do with it? I don't even mind leasing it out for a couple of years.
Hello,
Need a recommendation.
One Plus 11R 8GB+128GB at 28k (Direct purchase, effective cost 26,600)
or
One Plus 12R 8GB + 128GB at 40k (will be purchasing using EMI for 2 years)
Which one does the community recommends? I am leaning towards 11R for such a good price.
But the benefit of the 2 year No Cost EMI also makes 12R a great option.
Please help me out with this choice.
Poco X6 Pro ...with UFS 4.0
If I didn't want a Poco?
Hate the bloatware. Prefer the One Plus interface.
I's upto you ... X6 pro is more powerful than 11R and also blotware are removable.
What is the name of the song which plays in the red bull India angler fish ad? It aired on hotstar during the icc t20 world cup 2024.
[Help Needed] IOB cards not enabling international transactions 'Card is not a NCMC variant'
I wanted to purchase a few games on the recent steam sale but the transaction didn't go through. I then went to enable international transactions on my iob debit card from the iob mobile app, and after enabling all three ATM, POS and ecom transactions and setting limits in the international transactions tab, I clicked confirm, but it was denied and the message given was 'Card is not a NCMC variant'.
I can't find anything on the internet on this, apart from the fact that NCMC Card thing is for transportation transactions of some sort, and I can't enable international transactions on my card. Please help, any help would be appreciated
Are there any engineering colleges in India that offer English literature, fine arts etc as electives in any year?
What all arts related electives are available? Were there any colleges in the 2010s that offered such electives?
Not sure about now but back when I did my engineering at IIT Madras in the early 2010s, we needed to take three humanities electives.
There were a lot of options of courses you could take.
Off the top of my head, there were courses on literature (literature and life, African literature, feminist literature, science fiction which was incidentally one of the most memorable courses I've ever taken), philosophy (Indian philosophy, Western philosophy, ethics, logic), psychology (intro to psychology, social psychology), politics (European union studies which I remember because it was taught by the institute's foreign faculty with online guest lectures from some notable people), history (Indian independence movement), languages (intro and advanced French and German), economics, music theory (intro to Carnatic music) , soft skills (popular for obvious reasons) etc. These were all courses taken by me or my friends so there were probably a lot more.
In addition to the three electives, there was a mandatory course on Professional ethics, taught by a combination of professors from the humanities and engineering departments.
Hey, thanks a lot! This was what I was looking for. I'm actually writing a novel set in a fictional college during the early 2010s and I wanted to know if giving my main character an English lit elective was plausible.
Do Airtel international roaming pack of 899 for 10 days only get 1gb of data. And can we recharge for data topup if we are abroad.
Yes, it gives only 1GB. After that, you'll be charged standard pay-as-you-go rates (don't know if these will change in 2 days after the telecom price increases).
You can recharge for another IR pack when abroad.
Note: Jio has similar IR plans to Airtel but much better pay as you go rates.
Anyone with Vi (Vodafone Idea) get 2x daily spam SMS from them? Is there a way to make them stop?
Hi, Just wondering what the best job boards to look at for a foreigner wanting to relocate to India - only speak English. Thanks
Naukri is the biggest job board in India. But at least in my field, LinkedIn has made the traditional job boards more or less obsolete.
Hi, I am looking for suggestions on how should i go about reading on Mahabharata. Like which book should I go with and also should I buy a English or Hindi one.
Indio flight number change:
Several times in the last one year, I have observed that Indigo changes the flight number of a scheduled flight without changing departure date or time or the route. Sometimes, they even offer a full cancellation or free rescheduling (-2 days to +7 days) for this seemingly trivial change. Have you noticed this as well?
What might be the real reason? Call center people don't have an answer. They only assist with making changes.
Could this be a way of gaming flight performance metrics?
I have not experienced this myself. But my guess is that they are changing the aircraft type for the route. For example, going from an A320 to ATR because of low demand or vice versa.
This would necessitate them changing flight number because the people who originally booked would've expected to fly on a different aircraft.
Do you have any examples of this happening? We can check if this is indeed the reason.
Hi, I am Indian but born and bred abroad and have never been to India prior. I am planning a trip to India (solo and female) and the itinerary is Mumbai-Agra-Jaipur-Jaisalmer-Varanasi-Mumbai in November.
Keen to hear from the locals please. What do I need to consider, especially in terms of safety as a solo female traveller?
Am also a bollywood fan so what should I do and see in Mumbai?
Better to ask r/ABCDesis
Book hotels with good reviews. If you want to get authentic Indian experience, book events that are in public and with other people. Do not go for 'authentic Indian experience' such as ayurvedic spa, living in tents etc. Since you have never been here, I do not know if you are smart enough to know when it's legit and when it's a trap. So to be safe, do not go for anything where you will end up alone and cannot ask for help.
Refund from Agoda takes how many days ? I want to cancel a booking within 24 hours due to some sudden change of plans
Are Indian govt websites such as
https://kaveri.karnataka.gov.in
restricted to access from within India?
I have been trying to access this and other bangalore one sites and am unable to access. Can someone more tech savvy than me help?
I am able to access it from within India. Your ISP maybe having DNS issues that's stopping you from accessing it
Try accessing from your mobile internet if you are unable to access it from Wi-Fi (or try accessing from Wi-Fi if you are unable to access from mobile internet).
If that doesn't work, use a VPN. Easiest is to install a browser like Opera on a laptop and turn on its VPN option (search on YouTube on how to do this if you don't know how) to access the website
just checking if others can see my activity
yes we can
thank you.. this is old account so
Hey, I have 16 days total in July in India, I want almost all of them to be in Ladakh but wondering if I should invest a few days in New Delhi (I'll be flying from there as well). Thinking of doing 2-3 days in New Delhi, late July. What do you think? I don't think I'll visit india again any time soon. Thanks!
Doctor diagnosed my brother with liver swelling and probability of jaundice
Age 27M, no smoking, no drinking, prior health conditions:none, weight:70 kgs, height 5'7.5
Doctor gave him medicine and told if his condition didn't improved in 1-2 days he needs to be admitted. His symptoms are pain in chest, fever, vomitted yesterday, tiredness.
What can be the causes? Can it be treated? Is it life threatening?
Should we take him to a specialist or wait for his condition to improve? I'm very worried
If he doesn't improve by tomorrow morning, get a second opinion and take him to a specialist.
If his symptoms worsen today, don't wait till tomorrow
anyone who has experience with tata 1mg online consultation? what all do they ask for? do they just kinda half ass it?
I’m in Rajasthan for the next or so, and after this I was planning to head up to Rishikesh for round 5 nights and then Shimla for around 5 nights. I would really like to do a trek while I’m there, something that’s maybe 2 or 3 nights. I don’t have any proper hiking gear but I have decent Salomon trail running shoes, and a pair of outdoor pants. I’m generally fit but by no means prepared for anything too intense. I also some valuables that I wouldn’t want to take on the trek and would need to keep safe somewhere while hiking.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Treks as well as companies to go through.
Where can I find freelance or aspiring models for a fun campaign shoot?
Haven't received any answers in r/srilanka so I will ask here, I reckon it's pretty similiar in India. I'd love to here for you guys some helpful answers.
My, sister and brother-in-law are going to this beautiful place (Sri Lanka) to Palms Beach Hotel for vacation. I have never went abroad and my sister never went that far (she only visited few places in Europe) before so we'd love to hear any helpful tips and hints that could help us visiting this place. Is there anything we should take more attention while traveling there?
Seeking Innovative Manufacturing Business Ideas for 2024 (Budget Cap: 50 Lakhs)
Hi Reddit community,
I’m looking to start a manufacturing business in 2024 and I’m seeking your innovative suggestions. I have a budget cap of 50 lakhs INR and am particularly interested in ideas that are fresh and have the potential to thrive in the current market.
I’m open to a variety of sectors but would appreciate ideas that:
If you’ve come across any novel concepts or have insights into untapped markets, please share your thoughts. Any guidance or experiences you’ve had in the manufacturing sector would be incredibly valuable as well.
Thanks in advance for your help!
So I am going for my master's in USA and need a new laptop. What will be better, buying laptop from USA at a student discount or buying from India using a GST rebate from a friend's firm?
You can check the prices for comparable models on amazon.com or bestbuy and then decide.
But my experience is that the prices in the US will be much lesser than here.
As Jio is increasing prices of the recharge plans, I'm trying to recharge with their 24 GB annual plan. But it is not being displayed in my jio or on their website. Is there a way recharge with this plan?
They've removed both value plans (6 gb and 24gb) that were providing unlimited 5G. They'll only be back on July 3 with the new prices and no 5G data.
What's stopping Indians from recycling?
In Indian culture, there's very a deep sense of not wasting. However a lot of our trash just lies around. Let's take just the cities for now. What's stopping you as an individual from recycling? Is it the lack of knowing who to give the materials to? Is it because of lack of time? Is it an awareness issue?
It's convenience from day-to-day hassle.
Most Indians that I know will happily give away their old stuff for recycling to the raddi wala who pretty much pay you to recycle. But this only happens if these raddi walas are walking distance from your place. If they are too far, Indians will simply throw their garbage in trash
My parents are forcing me to to coaching/classes even though I can study on my own and pass with good marks, when I say this they think I will fail and repeat the year even though I've never failed in one subject and passed with above average marks every time despite studying for only one day before the exam, no matter how hard I try to explain it to them they don't understand so now I turn to you guys for help, any advice about what should I do?
There isn't enough information here to help you out.
What standard or degree year are you in?
Do your parents often see you do other leisure activies like playing games or watching web series/YouTube videos and tell you that you're wasting your time?
Do your parents have friends or relatives who have kids of your age who struggled with marks or admissions?
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention I'm in 9th. Yes my parents often do see me do leisure activities and tell me I'm wasting time. Yes, infact there's alot of them who struggle with marks. It's almost 90% of their friends children
Those are the very reasons they want you to join classes. Even if you're getting good marks, they feel you can still become better by joining these classes.
10th marks in India can have a compounding effect where not only does it decide which junior college you will get admission in, but that will also further decide your job and life trajectory.
My suggestion would be to not completely dismiss the idea of joining classes, but give it a try.
If not for studies, you'll make new bunch of friends there that you normally wouldn't.
Some of my lifelong friends were friends I first met in coaching classes
But the people in classes are the same people I meet in school so I'm not meeting anyone new there
Need career advice for a friend
Calling on all mortals here! I'm asking for a close friend (Keralite) of mine. Well, she has 8 years gap from her graduation. She graduated from CUSAT with distinction (CSE).
That's not so important. But what's important is a career advice to get started now. I suggested development jobs but the competition is very high and to add salt to the wound, she is a bit behind on the whole data structures and all those details. What could be a possible solution ya'll would suggest? Also suggest some good institutes with courses to roll the dice atleast.
PS: She's good at logical reasoning too
Is she interested in getting into development? If yes, ask her to try solving leetcode challenges. If those seem tough, ask her to read the answers of others for those leetcode challenges.
It would also help for her to try and actually code something by herself e.g. if she's interested in front-end or mobile app development, she can try to mimic the UI of her favorite website or app.
If she knows what technology she is interested in learning, there's tons of YouTube channels and paid Udemy courses with very high quality content. All you need is a bit of self discipline
Due to some constraints, i have to live with some family, who live in HSR, and travel to work at Garudacharpalya at 9 a.m. I'm not worried about return because obviously I'll have time, but I'm worried about the morning commute. The fastest I found was rapido or rickshaw to Trinity & then metro. So I'm a bit worried about budget as well as time, as they are strict about timing at my office. Any guidance is deeply appreciated. Thanks!
I'm planning to send a parcel from India to Australia by July 17th. I've decided to use Indian Post as it's cheaper. However, when I inquired at my nearest post office, the employee told me that the maximum weight I can send is 6-7 kgs. This confused me because I read on the Indian Post website that the maximum weight limit is 20 kgs.I need to send about 25 kgs of items. Can anyone clarify if what the post office employee said is true? If the limit is indeed 20 kgs, how can I go about sending my parcel? Should I split it into multiple packages?Additionally, I'm planning to send clothes, shoes, and some utensils.
Are these items allowed, and are there any other restricted items I should be aware of? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
What is the difference between branded and generic medicine other than their price. Do they have the same medical effect on the body? I am asking as an end consumer/patient?
Regulations will be more strictly followed with branded medicines compared to generic ones. That being said, most generic medicines are safe enough if you can find them in packaged form. Go with generic ones if you're on a budget, but not without your doctor's approval
Fingerprints not registering while authenticating Aadhar.
One of my parent is not able to authenticate using Aadhar using biometric fingerprints as the fingerprints on hand are not so prominent, out of 10 fingerprints the biometric machine is only able to detect impressions of one finger.
Has anyone else faced the same issue? If so what is the solution/alternative?
Some services do not accept retina scanning and require Aadhar biometric authentication using only fingerprint.
Thanks
Had the same issue with one of my relatives. Complain to the head office of the company providing service and ask them for a non biometric alternative.
If enough people like you and me complain, they'll have to have a backup option if they don't have one already
Hi everyone! I’m 30F planning to travel solo to India from Australia for the first time next year. I’m planning on going to Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, Darjeeling, Varanasi, Lucknow and Delhi. Would welcome any tips or suggestions on things to do and things to avoid :) Much appreciated!
As a Delhiite, my suggestion is skip North India i.e. Delhi, Varansi, Lucknow. Instead go to somewhere in Kerela, Tamil Nadu and Andhra.
Please speak to other australians about their experiences here and how to stay safe.
I have been to most of the places. A general tip would be to be aware of your belongings in crowded areas and be prepared for heat it was about 50°C recently in Delhi.
How to break into private wealth management?
22F. I’ve studied economics from a tier 1 college and am now working in a big4 (consulting). Not the worst job but I don’t see myself doing this in the long term. I want to pivot into a better paying career and so far finance seems like my best bet but of course, it’s notorious for the WLB (which is what I’m considering leaving consulting for). I’ve been hearing tidbits about private wealth management and I’m interested in knowing more about it in case someone could tell me their experience/any advice I should know/things to keep in mind/how a typical day is like - anything really!
I think I have the aptitude for it, but it seems too niche of a field for me to know more about it by looking it up online so I’m hoping this reaches some people who have experience or exposure in managing wealth for HNIs and other institutions. Is it worth it? How difficult is it? Thank you so much!
rybelsus help!

Hello!
I have been traveling throughout India for a couple weeks:
Bangalore last week.
Kumarakom for a few days on houseboat.
now in Munnar!
I’ve been staying at a resort and so far have seen elephants, monkeys and mountain goats. We have also seen the tea plantations, tea museum, waterfalls and great views. I only have one day left and it’s been raining, so I am looking to see some thing if possible that I haven’t already seen any ideas? It’s OK if it’s outside, if it’s unique. I was planning on going to top Station but there is a road closure so I wasn’t able to go today. If I’m able to go tomorrow I will probably go.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
As a sidenote, I will be driving back to Kochi Friday for a flight back to Bangalore and then back to the United States so I’ll have another full day in Bangalore Saturday, so any suggestions? Those are also appreciated if that adds context to this.
Packaged/self planned foreign tours - How to manage cancelation/plan changes? I was checking packaged foreign tours. They don't give any refund on cancellation. Even if I plan it myself, and take tickets, visa etc. month(s) in advance, how to plan for/deal with date changes/cancelation/sickness/unforeseen circumstances? I don't see any airlines refunding any major/proper amount for international tickets cancelation. I know there Is insurance, like sickness/plan cancel insurance etc., but does anybody use them?
What do I do, how to plan? Do people just risk 1-2 lakhs?
I want to buy a travel Backpack 🎒 in which I can carry 1-2 laptops and few light clothes for 1-2 days. I searched for it on internet and found the Mokobara backpacks fulfilling my requirements.
Are there any other brands that do sell travel backpacks like Mokobara ?

I’ve been asked to open an SBI savings account for college online and provide the TCRN of the application for further verification. So far I haven’t found the resident individual application in the .sbi domain and only NRI option is available on the website. Is there any way to apply online and then use the online application form generated for the in-person visit to the branch for further process?

Hello all! I’m flying out to Vietnam from Brisbane on the 4th of July for three days, then we’re supposed to fly to Delhi for a couple of weeks on the 8th of July. But for days now I’ve been trying to logon (via the India consulate in a Melbourne) and the site won’t let me go past the first page of the application. When I called the Melb consulate they said it’s not their problem. Has anyone else been having issues with the site? Any ideas how to get my visa? Our flights are paid for,but if we don’t end up flying I don’t mind, it’s only a few hundred dollars and I’m happy to stay in Vietnam and trekking up to Thailand etc.
Need Help
Hi, I am an F1 student in the USA, and I plan to return to my country, India, for vacation. I am planning to bring 2 laptops with me (One which I am using and one for my brother), few of my friends told me that as I am a student, I can bring 2 laptops with me, but I am a bit skeptical about this and thought it'd be better to ask it here.
I have 1 Macbook Pro(personal laptop which I bought in USA), 1 iPad (Personal use bought in USA) and 1 iPhone (bought in India) with me already, and I want to bring 1 more laptop with me (maybe MacBook air for my younger brother).
Is it allowed to bring 2 laptops? Or do I have to pay customs there?
The rule is that one laptop and a phone are considered part of your 'used personal effects'. What else can be regarded as part of that is up to the customs officer's discretion. Apart from personal effects, you are allowed to bring ₹50k worth of items for gifts etc without paying duty.
That said, generally, another laptop may be permitted as long as it is not in any packaging. You can say you use one for personal use and the other for work or something to that effect.
A friend of mine is also coming with me, so I will hand him mac and I will bring a windows (gaming laptop) and maybe I can tell them that the windows one is for gaming and the mac for work, and my friend already have one old mac air and planning to buy new one so he can say that this one is old and bought new because old one was lagging.
Basically, they just have to be convinced that both laptops are being used by you and you've not bought them to resell in India.
If you carry them unboxed in your cabin bag and walk through the green channel with confidence, you'll mostly be fine. If asked, just saying one is your work laptop which you're planning to use during your vacation should be enough. Don't try to give too many justifications.
hello.
i am currently looking on buying an iphone 12 64gb variant.
So, the thing is that i dont use the camera and stuff much often . My budget is 32k and the other amount is covered for the ICT ( 18% gst ). I looked up other phones such as Nothing 2 and google pixel 7a but the only reason for me wanting to choose iphone is due to its optimization in genshin impact . Its the only game i play and i really wanted to play it on a mobile. Ofc i dont plan to spending much on a mobile as pc is where my main gaming is on.
So, for a teen who usually uses the phone to call and stuff and might play few games now and then ( genshin etc ).
Is the iphone 12 64gb variant good?
Hi folks, so making a post to get the input of you all in choosing a bank to go with for opening a savings account. I'm 19 and soon will b enrolling in a college and plan to go abroad for further studies, so taking an education loan is also on the table. Both my parents have been a lifelong SBI customers and they want me to go with SBI, but I'd like to keep my options open and go with the best one.
Open an account with one of the big private banks, mainly for ease of use, no frequent outages, functional mobile apps, no need to physically visit branch for most purposes etc. I'd suggest ICICI.
The disadvantage is that you'll have to maintain a minimum balance.
Having or not having an SB account in a bank wouldn't really be a factor for an education loan. But if your parents insist, you can open a joint account with one of them in SBI and maintain that as a secondary account. The minimum balance will anyway be 0. Using the public sector bank for savings (eg: for fees etc which your parents transfer to you) and the private sector one for daily transactions wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Travelling solo from India to Azerbaijan in November
Hi everyone.
I’m solo travelling to Azerbaijan for a 8 day trip from India. If it matters, I am a woman.
I’m trying to find insights from people who have travelled to Azerbaijan about real destinations, the unnecessary or overrated places, the night life destinations and the budget I should keep in mind.
I want to see a lot of scenic things along with heritage or history related things.
I look forward to your insight and my apologies in case this is too open ended. I’ll add more information if required.
Urgent Release of 2024 College Rankings by NIRF (https://chng.it/7jLcs57vZC)
To: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
We, the concerned stakeholders, express our deep concern over the delay in releasing the college rankings for the year 2024. As individuals invested in the education sector, we believe that timely and transparent information is crucial for students, parents, and educational institutions.
Background:
Since 2016, NIRF has been providing valuable insights through its annual rankings, helping students make informed decisions about their higher education choices.
The expected release date for the 2024 rankings was June 5th, but as of now, there has been no official communication regarding the delay.
Our Concerns:
Transparency: Lack of communication about the delay raises questions about transparency and accountability.
Student Anxiety: Prospective students eagerly await these rankings to make informed decisions about college admissions.
Institutional Impact: Educational institutions rely on these rankings for benchmarking and continuous improvement.
Our Request:
Immediate Communication: We urge NIRF to promptly communicate the reasons behind the delay and provide a revised release date.
Regular Updates: Regular updates on the progress would alleviate anxiety and maintain trust in the ranking process.
Stakeholder Engagement: Involve stakeholders in discussions to enhance transparency and address concerns.
Conclusion:
We believe that NIRF plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of our country. By releasing the rankings without further delay, NIRF can uphold its commitment to excellence and transparency.

So, I am a Masters Student, and just bought an iPad, majorly for work, but also for personal stuff. I am used to JBL wired headphones to use with my phone or laptop, but now I need to get wireless headphones for this iPad. Now I am not an audiophile or anything, but I do not like using earpods, or the sound quality of headphones from companies like boat.
Now I also suspect that I am on the spectrum, but noise cancellation is not a priority for me, though i do use earphones to tune out bg noise. Comfort and aound quality should be good.
I would love some suggestions for over the ear headphones in the budget of 3k-5k, if possible.
Hey all (f20) I'm travelling to India alone to see a friend. I just wanna know some cool places to check out and must see or food to try while I'm there.
Thanks 😊
I'm travelling alone to India for 40 days in July (33M):
I have a friend in Delhi but I'll be by myself most of the time, do you have any tips for solo travelling to India?
I know it's probably the worst season to travel there, is there some area where I could have better weather conditions?
I kind of dislike big cities and I always look for more rural areas (I want to avoid Goa), is there some place you would recomend me to go?
I have MANY days there with a lot of spare time, any activity you think I could enjoy? I kind of like inmersive stuff like cooking classes but I don't know where I could book those
Thanks :-)
North east is always a good place to go. Start from Kolkata, go to darjeeling, then sikkim and figure your next destination based on those experiences.
Alternately, go to Puri in Orissa and learn surfing.
I belong to a fairly prosperous family. My brother is trying to do betting (cricket matches) on an app called STAKE. I am strongly against this and insist that he shouldn't waste his time and my parents money on gambling. He asked my father and mother and they approved his plea as long as he doesn't bet more than 500 rs.
Now 500rs is a decently big amount for a young teenager like me and I think he shouldn't gamble with it and even I could put the money to better use. He hasn't done any betting yet, but will do it soon. This was an incident of 2-3weeks ago, now he will bet on the next match.
I didn't post it or ask anyone's opinion because I though if my parents had approved it there was nothing I could do. I still can't do anything but I want to get this thing of my mind, all in all I want to know if I am wrong here?
Hey guys, I just need an opinion on a situation. Do u guys think it is a scam? I am selling my phone and the buyer says he will Pay 80% in cash and the rest by CHEQUE But I asked him To pay online to which he replied his online banking is not working and then I told him to withdraw cash and give me to which he told he can’t since it is his company account . Do u guys think I might be scammed after selling the phone that I can’t cash out the cheque

With recent exam leak frequency increase and today's exam postponement, a question coming to my mind, and that is, is there any insurance scheme that covers these mentioned above, like travelling, living expense, and even plans that could cover money you spent in preparation in past year, and if not what IRDA rules stop it from happening, will it ever become reality?
IMO, the idea itself has lot of potential with exams happening everyday
can anyone with india phone number help to create a http://dhan.co/ account?
I am looking for masters in data science or any related field (data analytics/business analytics), my options so far are:
VIT vellore but here i am getting Msc Business Statistics (Somewhat related to data science but not my preference) placements are good but Ill have to compete with Msc DS students/B.tech students and i feel that might be a changeling since my course is less prestigious than theirs
Chandigarh University here i am getting MSc data science, but i have heard the placements are not as good as VIT
Symbiosis Skills and professional university, here i am also getting Msc data science, honestly I dont know much about the college all I know is that it is relatively new and separate from the Main Symbiosis campus.
I Did my undergrad in Data science, but worked in a low paying not IT role now i feel I need to do masters to get a better position, there is an option for taking a drop year and maybe giving some entrance tests too if all the options i have a terrible.
Thanks for reading
What would be an ideal monthly income at age 25 to be in the top 1% of Indians?
Best airlines in India for pressure sensitive folks?
I underwent Pleurodesis for both my lungs post Pneumothorax back in 2014 (right) and 2019 (left). I am a competitive cyclist, and have been so for the past 3-4 years, I also have been exercising regularly without any issues.
I was recommended against flying during my discharge, and ever since, I've only used trains/buses to get around. But the current situation calls for saving time since the distances are huge. Which means, going air borne is need of the hour.
I would like to know the airlines that can maintain the cabin pressure very well, i.e., minimum difference between ground level pressure and in-flight altitude level pressure.
I know nothing about India, but I know a bit about planes.
The pressure inside the cabin is irrelevant of the airline, it comes down to the type and model of plane. Let's say for example you are flying in the country there is a large chance you are going on a medium sized jet like a Boing 737 or Airbus A320. Both the pressure and the rate of change in pressure is very close to each other.
There are more modern platforms like the Airbus A350 and Boing 787 which are capable of a larger pressure difference, so they can have a cabin pressure that is about 6000ft instead of the 8000ft of most regular cabins.
So sadly my advice is to look for airlines that fly A350s or 787s, but depending on your route that might be hard to impossible, because those planes only fly longer routes.
Hi all, need some advice on planning a trip with parents in fall.
Parents are 60+. I'll be flying in from San Francisco directly (or I may accompany them from New Delhi).
Both can be assumed as stereotypical Indian parents, not too adventurous to try different cuisines etc. Mom wants to go on a cruise and maybe visit another country.
I want to give them a good time of their life, without involving too much walking/waiting.
Suggestions welcomed for:
Hotels (and neighborhoods)
Things to do in Singapore
Restaurants/places to go eat (they can eat chicken)
Cruise situation, will it be too much to spend .. maybe 3/4 days in Singapore, and then 3/4 days on cruise, then back to Singapore and home?
Thanks all!
I’m looking for a shipping company who would help me ship wholesale items from India to Dubai. If there’s any company that comes to mind, pls let me know as I would like to call them and inquire more about it.
Thanks in advance!
Cancelled my flight within an hour of booking. Ixigo says that my cancellation falls under DGCA full refund policy. It was indigo, indore to kolkata. The ixigo customer care said that the airline validates the refund. Will i get a full refund??
Yes. The airline needs to refund because of DGCA rules as long as the flight was 2 weeks away or more.
The airline will pay the third-party booking agent (ixigo) and ixigo can take a cut of their fees etc and pay you the rest. But if they are saying themselves that you'll get a full refund, then you will.
Hey all! Hope everyone's having a fantastic day.
My sister's Bday is coming soon and I have decided to gift her a new phone. She has been using an iphone for quite sometime now.
Currently she has an Iphone 12 before that she was also rocking an iphone. Now, during her apple phase, she got herself a macbook pro as well and both of them worked flawless (macbook and iphone).
Now, she has upgraded to a windows laptop and is facing some issues syncing etc. So I have been talking to my sister about her phone and she has expressed her interest in samsung/android phones as well.
Now please help me decide which phone to get her, i have 3 deals below:
Iphone 15 128GB: 63k
Samsung 24 256GB: 60k (exynos)
Samsung 24+ 256GB: 65k (exynos)
I have mentioned exynos cuz I hate what samsung has been doing here. Not sd for the rest of the world.
BUMP! Kinda need help here, please advise.

Thanks in advance.
Hello, I am looking for travel advice. I want to go to either Leh or Srinagar end of August. I know they are difficult to compare and I would love to visit both but I have only limited time. There are travel warnings for Srinagar. I don’t think it would be very unsafe, but maybe someone has insights on how it is to be there as a tourist right now? Also what would you recommend in general, also for the season. I am a European female travelling with her partner and grateful for any advice 🥰
Both are very diff experiences. I personally would prefer Leh as the landscapes are very unique. August is also a good time to visit but it will be crowded. Having been to both I also like the more relaxed vibe in Leh.
Are Non-IITians destined to fail in life as they didn't get through JEE/NEET. This is because society always tells us ki'If you don't crack these exams, your life is worthless and you won't be able to do anything in life. I am asking this question because I have seen thousands of students ending their lives after failing these exams and hence even I get thoughts of ending my life.
IIT guys are making apps that delivery atta in 15 minutes. chill.
No. The IIT tag is only helpful in building contacts and getting the initial push in your career.
And there are a lot of other ways you can get those irrespective of which college you go to.
Whatever college or program you get in, the first step is to refuse to settle down and go with the flow. Use the first semester or two to figure out what you're interested in. Try to get into projects (inside or outside colleges). Reach out to people (without fear of rejection) for internships during your holidays etc, be they in IITs or established companies or startups. If you do all this, your profile in your final year will be as good or better than any IITian.
This is coming from someone who graduated from an IIT in the last decade and then worked with and hired many people, both from IITs and not.
Okay. Thank you.
I'm landing next Friday in Mumbai.
It seems like there is a heavy rain forecast for the next Friday. I land around 5:30AM and have a train at 12:30. Given the rain, will it be sufficient time to catch my train if I take Uber/Ola and is it safe to take them?
Thanks!
Hello everyone. I was looking for store/online bought Misal Masala powder and found some products. Can anyone share their experience if someone used them and rate them in their authenticity . As Misal masala / vatan require lot of spices, it’s better to use the dry mixed version imo . Specifically I am looking the taste of kolhapur. Thanks.
Looking for advice on vacationing in Puducherry. Is there any good hotel there that offers car parking?
A tourist new to Delhi here. Want a hotel advice.
I have a flight to Delhi in mid July and a flight to Srinagar 2 days after that. The problem is my arrival in Delhi is at 10pm and my flight to Srinagar is 7am so basically I would like to book a hotel that has very late checkin around midnight and very early checkout around 4am to spend 1.5 days. Could you recommend me some hotels in walking distance from the airport that could fits my criteria?
I doubt there's any hotel in the world that would allow you to check-in at 12am and checkout the following day at 4am when you've paid for just one night.
Unless of course you're just asking about hotels whose check-in desk would be open at those times and you are planning to pay for 2 nights. In that case, most (if not all) decent hotels near the airport would fit the criteria.
Well I don't mind paying for 2 nights. Just want to know there are hotels that would accommodate me near the airport or I have to go out further. Anyway thanks for your answer.
Another question, could I use Agoda to book a hotel in India or they prefer another app?
You can use Agoda or Booking.com. They are just as accepted as the local options (MakeMyTrip, yatra, cleartrip) and you won't have issues with card payment from your non-Indian card.
Just to be sure about your midnight check-in concerns, look for '24-hour front desk' under amenities.
Does anyone have insight to Nihal/Nihali people? I’m adopted from Maharashtra and know nothing of my biological family. I found my haplogroup through a 23&me test. My group has only been found in a small percentage of Nihali people. This is the first confirmation of my ancestry to me. When trying to learn more about the people/area I’ve only found a couple things on google that don’t give much information.
How to avail max discount while buying an iPad in India?
I mean literally at this point we are focusing on foreign relations, trade and all and not only India but like each country is doing that and definitely that is a important things but I would say we have to something for our earth i guess like making a comitee which helps on the increasing issues our planet is facing, just look at the water shortages, even big cities are having it and the heat waves it's literally killing people even in the rural areas and the pollution in big cites like the upcoming infants and all are being born sick, i mean this really scares and not only government but people themselves have to do something about it...
What are the best clinics in India for ICL surgery? What has your experience been after the surgery?
As a freelancer, the bank is refusing me a home loan. Do I have a way out here? Full information below ⬇️
90% of my income comes from the US. I am a freelance content writer. I am making roughly 1.5L/month. The bank says only TDS-related transactions will count toward the computation for the home loan. The 10% of my income that does have TDS deductions from clients comes from one-off work within India mainly for design projects, which is not significant and just based on that the bank cannot give any loan, which is reasonable.
Now, as I am working as a freelancer for US clients directly, the payments are received in my bank account through PayPal, so there's no TDS that they can deduct for these payments. Most likely, there's no way for me to even coerce these payments and make them eligible for TDS (afaik; so do correct me if I'm wrong). These are simple orders received over email, and payments made twice a month or so, very cash-type business. And all this income is being filed as exactly that, "cash" income, by the bank, which is not relevant for my home loan computation.
My CA who's been helping me with legal things, ITR filing, etc. has no solution for me. My bank representative also has no solution for me. Basically, my whole career that I've built as a proud freelancer over the last 10 years (not a proper career or business per se, I know) is useless. I can't suddenly join a 9-to-5 job and wait 5 years for my salary to be on a similar level and then get a home, it's insane. If I save 20% of my income every month, that's roughly 30,000. I was looking for an independent home in 35L (had already seen some projects). That will take me 116 months or 9.5 years to save up enough to buy in cash, but by that time the 35L would be much higher thanks to inflation.
Any way out for a freelancer like me? Any alternatives or options? Any advice from someone who has some knowledge in this?
I assume this is a public sector bank?
You're paying tax for the whole income, right? So, your ITR will have the correct income. Talk to different banks until you find one that's ready to accept ITR and your credit score. Home loans are pretty low risk for banks since they keep the property documents as collateral. You'll surely find a private bank that's willing.
It’s HDFC and I talked to SBI, which actually agreed to offer a loan. Thanks for the information, idk why it wasn’t part of my total income.
PS5 rentals
I have the next week off. Was planning to rent a PS5 and spend the week gaming.
Do you have any suggestions for any online agency that provides such service?
Thank you in advance.
Do you think an atheist would be able to fight elections? Given the state of unrest with regards to religion, I was wondering would people be open to a candidate who doesn’t use religion as a tool to get votes. What do you guys think?
Depends on where. For example, the major parties in Tamil Nadu have atheism as a platform (or did initially. They've softened their stance since the last few decades but quite a few of the leaders are atheists).
Fair point. P.s I’m just glad that you replied lol
I was wondering how to buys things in Japan and ship them directly to India . I don't know which sites to go to ( mostly for fashion ). And how to avoid the custom tax when shipping to India.

How to pay fees and book appointment? I filled the details by 10 June 2024, but as of now appointments are mostly booked till 17th September in all the POPSKs. 2 days ago when I was trying for my hometown, it said to try after 190624 16:00 . When I tried I was able to select my city but "make payment" option is inactive. The only city which is allowing me to make payment is like 400km far. Should I go to the nearby POPSK and try to book appointment there? Please help me out.
Going by what you say about no appointments till September, is this a POPSK in the jurisdiction of the Bhubhaneshwar RPO?
If so, they were the guinea pigs for the migration to the new software/portal. This was fumbled to epic proportions and appointments were completely stalled for weeks starting from March.
The reason all dates for the next 3 months are shown to be completely booked (they are not) is either because there is now a backlog of people wanting passports from the last three months that they have to manage or that they've still not solved their software woes so they're rationing appointments. I suspect it's a combination of both.
Anyway, when you try to choose a centre it should show when the next round of appointments are set to be released. Login at exactly that time and choose your centre to proceed to payment. You need to be very quick.
You cannot go in person to the POPSK to book an appointment.
If you're in a hurry and don't want to play this game, the only solution is to book an appointment at a PSK/POPSK in a different state. See here for available dates.
You'll need to make a fresh application in the old portal with a new email ID and choose a different RPO. The employees at the PSK may spout some nonsense about you needing to choose the RPO based on your address. But stand your ground that anyone can apply from anywhere in India and preferably carry a printout of this.
Note: This will only work for normal appointments. Not tatkal. If you've booked tatkal in another state, it'll be converted to normal.
If I had to travel to adifferent state for transport then I would rather go to that place 400km away which is allowing me to make payment and book appointment. I am not in a hurry though just completing my documents list for future job related prospects.
kind of its berhampur popsk actually and its nearly 200km from bbsr.
I try man but the make payment option is disabled even if i click on my desired popsk at4pm. This is the message I see today :(
Currently no appointments are available for the selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). Please try scheduling an appointment from 21/06/2024 04:00 PM onwards. Total number of appointments booked today: 2
seriously 2 appointments only? and that too for 3 months later?
Yes. Berhampur popsk is under the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar RPO as are all the other POPSKs (and one PSK) in Odisha. I'm actually surprised you're able to pay and book an appointment for the place 400km from you, unless it's right after the appointments are released at 4pm.
I'm guessing the payment option is disabled because your POPSK has so few slots that they get booked in the backend even when it shows availability for you.
Ya, it's a ridiculous situation and has been going on for months. Even passport approvals are taking much longer than usual in Odisha because of the software issues.

I want to travel to Bangalore and would like to know if it is possible to travel with 2 laptops and 1 PS5 + luggage in a flight ?
I'm assuming you're travelling internationally.
The duty-free allowance (apart from 'personal items') is 50k. One laptop is automatically allowed for personal use. You can claim the other laptop is for work and the PS5 is for your own use during your India trip. But this will work only if they are noticeably old. If they're clearly new (even when you've removed packaging), you'll have to pay duty since the value will exceed 50k.
I will be travelling within India. Chandigarh to Bangalore.
Oh..then there's no problem as far as the rules are concerned.
Best is to keep all of them in your carry on as long as you can get everything within the permissible weight limits. You'll need to take out the laptops as well as PS5 during security.
If you're taking the PS5/laptop in checkin (of course, with risks involved of baggage mishandling/theft), be sure to pack it properly. For the laptop, you need to remove the battery if possible and take it separately (Removable batteries are not allowed in checked baggage).
India's household debt is rising although it's not in an alarming stage but cover 36% of the GDP. I believe with the growth of easy loan access the debt will just keep reaching new heights. Majority of the household debt is concentrated towards middle class household. And these people are vulnerable to any changes in economy. I'm curious to know:
How many of you have ongoing loan?
How are you managing them?
Are you having any difficulties clearing them off?
Do any of you own the TCL C755 TV? If yes, what has your experience been with it's performance, image quality, streaming etc.?
This is the only TV with good specs (mini LED, local dimming) that fit my budget (getting the 55 inch version for 63k on Croma/Reliance Digital with card offers). I'm not planning to do much gaming, but movies and series are going to be the primary intent.
I did see a lot of positive reviews online about this TV from other geographies (this model is sold as C805 in Europe). But since the firmware and specs might vary slightly across geographies, I wanted to check what the experience of people who bought this in India has been
How is Shimla (and nearby places) for tourism in July?
My friends and I plan to travel to Shimla during the first two weeks of July for 4-5 days.
It's mostly going to be a chill, weekend trip and not filled with too many tourism activities.
Wanted to know how Shimla is for tourism during first two weeks of July. Weather wise and safety wise (considering monsoons and vacation season results in landslides, heavy traffic), if it's cool to travel, if there will be any hold ups, yada yada.
Why is Goa so expensive?
Taj Holiday village is about the same cost as the Ritz Carlton in South Beach Miami. And the beaches in Miami are amazing and the real estate in general is more expensive than Goa. Also the Ritz is comparable to Taj — both are top tier in respective countries.
Genuinely curious as to why resorts in Goa are so expensive.
Supply and demand
A weird question but I visited new York earlier this year and the family took me to the beach. And women are openly walking with very little clothing on.
I found it very uncomfortable not to ogle. Am I just uncivilized? How have other Indian guys dealt with this? Do you just accept it as a cultural difference and move on?
