I am Permanently Banned From Albion Online

Hey everyone,

Today, I learned that my account, into which I've invested countless hours achieving full specs, has been permanently banned.

The reason given was involvement in third-party transactions. I had indeed purchased 60m silver from an external source, so the ban is accurate! This post isn't to contest or lament the ban.

I've been dedicating roughly three hours daily to Albion, which, in hindsight, was a significant chunk of my time and energy. I'm excited to redirect these resources towards side projects and socialising.

Therefore, this marks the end of my journey with Albion Online and, consequently, this subreddit. I wanted to make this final post to say goodbye to the community that has been a part of my daily life for so long. Thank you for the memories and experiences we shared.

I wish everyone the best of luck in life, with the exception of gankers.

Why do you play Albion Online?

What do you enjoy the most? Do you like playing strong meta builds? Do you enjoy being overgeared and just try to kill everyone who crosses your path? Do you like gathering so you can make a lot of money? Crafting? For me it's experimentimg with very off meta cheap builds and see if they work or not. Usually in Mists or CDs. I love outplaying opponents with those builds (sometimes players that have higher IP then I do). That makes me feel happy. What about YOU?

Albion Online is Coming to Asia!

Are you ready for some big news? Ok, no longer “new news” as some data miners and streamers spoiled the surprise for everyone, but now It’s Official.

YES. Albion is launching a new dedicated Asia server!

Here are the most important things you need to know about this new server:

  • It's located in the middle of Asia, so the ping will be the fastest if you're located in this region. However, if you're located in EU, you can also check out the new server and see which one works best for you.

  • It's completely independent from the Albion West server. This means it's a fresh start - you can't transfer your characters or items, but you can use your old game account and reserve a character name or the guild name you use on the West server.

  • All the timings of game and server events (territory battles, Crystal League, Faction Warfare, maintenance, etc.) will be optimized for the Asian region.

  • You can purchase Founder Packs to get access to a Closed Beta and Early Access to the new server when it launches. You can even purchase multiple packs if you want all the rewards. All the rewards are claimable on both servers, but will be available only on one of them (meaning, if you claimed your rewards on the West server, you'll be unable to claim them again on the East server).

  • Closed Beta starts on February 20, 2023 and will be available only to the Founder Pack owners. All progress after the beta will be wiped. Top-ranking guilds, along with players who make sufficient progress during the season, can unlock unique rewards that persist even after the beta ends.

  • Early access starts on March 15, 2023 and will be available for Crystal and Gold Founders; March 17 - for Silver Founders; March 19 - for Bronze Founders;

  • On March 20, 2023: Albion East server opens to all players.

  • A Live Q&A with the Game Director Robin Henkys will be held on AlbionTV on January 24 at 19:00 UTC, and you'll be able to ask him all the questions and share your concerns.

  • All the additional info, founder packs details, and a button to subscribe to the East Server Updates can be found by the link: https://albiononline.com/asia

And check out this new Albion East video our team created! The level of epicness is overwhelming. (Our team specifically traveled to Asia to film it, btw)

Albion Online s22 (DEAD black-zone confirmed) / Crystal Raiders Update

Season 22 started with good ZvZ action on black-zone (bz). The main EU fights were between SNF + SM + HNS + Superior guilds (Side A) vs POE(Alliance) + BOBER (Alliance) + EQMS + Arch(alliance) (Side B). Numbers were heavy on Side B's advantage but Side A had more quality.

Overall it was same clustered zones in the inner circle with fights close to objective timers. Taking advantage of the war a third side appeared Contingent + Ifures (chasing rank1) Contingent had the opportunity to drop its HO's without any contest because of the war happening and than started to push Side A (the only one that gives content). Due to a war happening and Contingent standing between objectives such as HO hammering or Zone capping willing to take "content" in a already flamed up war they got overwhelmed by numbers.

Than Contingent decided to hammer Side A (SNF) HO in DarkbroughSnag which they failed to do so with Ifures. After second attempt they decided to handhold with Side B to achieve their goal. With the numbers Side B have and adding to that two good ZvZ force Side A gave up on the war. Superior disbanded, HNS lost its ZvZ force. New formed Side B (CG + IFures + Bober + POE + EQMS + Arch) won the war and made the inner-circle bz dead silent.

Contingent leadership claims that they held hands only to destroy a HO and they are a content guild seeking for content. So does all other guilds. How ever both Bober and Contingent holding inner-circle 18 UTC zones next to each other without launching each other or even attacking each other on castles. Instead both 130+ massing guilds looking for content in the outer ring where guilds mass usually around 60 people.

31 January at 18 UTC EU war report Bober came to help Stop alliance (130+ people) fighting vs Road Block guild which mass around 70 people. To make a 300 vs 70 fight and kill the content.

Than at 21 UTC Contingent got paid by FAGG alliance (Dutch Legends) that mass 90+ people and having two red allies vs Road Block that massed 70 people. So Contingent massed 130 people to help Fagg alliance vs RB in outer ring. Because Road Blocked dropped a HO and a launch to a zone to create content vs FAGG alliance. But FAGG alliance instead paid silver to CG for helping them destroying RB HO. Than they needed to make friendly fight each other because Road Block didn't take the fight 230 vs 70.

This is not SBI's or developers fault. It is the garbage mentality of gamers that can not stand even a possibility of loosing in a video game.

As actual content seeker players and people that put fun aspect of the game in front of all others. We wish all HH'ers and garbage leaders best of luck.

Albion Online releases on Monday - Ask us anything!

Hello everyone!

We are Sandbox Interactive, an independent development studio located in Berlin, Germany. For the past five years, our now 50 people strong team has been working on the Sandbox MMORPG Albion Online, which is releasing this Monday, from July 17th 2017 onwards. Access to the game is given out in stages, based on the type of game pack bought, details can be found here.

Here today are Stefan (aka Bercilak), the CEO of Sandbox Interactive, and some of our Game Designers and Community Managers, ready to answer any and all questions you have about our game over the next few hours.

The team behind Albion Online consists of a good mixture of experienced designers and programmers that worked, among others, on major games like EVE Online, Drakensang, and Battleforge. While you are more than welcome to ask about our developers’ involvements in their previous games, we can’t guarantee that we can answer all of the questions - Non Disclosure Agreements and pesky things like this. Also, as not everyone is here today, some questions about previous games can only be answered next week.

Albion Online has been independently developed with the support of more than 250,000 Founders who helped us raise close to $10m in funding and provided invaluable feedback and input during our extensive alpha and beta tests. We drew some of our inspiration from games EVE Online, Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, League of Legends, and Runescape; all games we loved, played - and in some cases still play today).

If you already know what the game is about, feel free to scroll down and ask your questions right away. For all others, please see the following information:

Albion Online - Game design & Cheats Analysis

With EU server launch, I see more post talking about cheats in Albion Online, often with misconception about how the game works, how cheats works, and what SBI can do to prevent those cheats.

Months ago, i posted to share information about cheats in Albion Online. This is the same post with minor updates, here is my original reddit post.

TL;DR:

From my understanding of Albion Online game design, i think SBI made good and strong game design choices to reduce and prevent cheats. Their strategy, policy and actions show that they are putting effort to protect players and thus their business against cheating.
I think they are among the best company addressing this issue.

Some people from SBI are explaining and sharing information about the game design and cheats prevention. From my perspective, it demonstrate a mature understanding of the topic and lead to efficient decisions.

Please share example of other game or company you think are doing good on this issue.

If you have more information about Albion Online, or about game exploits and cheats, or example of game design from other MMO related to this topic or to correct anything i shared, that would be very interesting, please feel free to share it.

Introduction

Overall, all the gaming industry faces cheat issues, and all MMORPG as well. Cheats is an industry by itself, with their own business model. Each game company reacts to these cheats in their own ways depending on how cheats impact their business. Preventing cheating is about game design, technology choices, and developper's & publisher's strategy and policy on cheating.

Some cheats can be almost fully prevented with proper game design, but others cannot.
As I think fully preventing cheating is not possible, I think putting the right level effort to reduce it efficiently to the minimum is important so that it does not affect too much the game and the players, specially in pvp-focused mmo with player-driven economy. Of course, each player and company has it's own definition of what is "right level effort " and "too much".

In the end, preventing cheating is a constantly evolving cat and mouse game:

  • how much effort a company is putting against cheating depends on how much cheating impact their business (money) versus how much resources (money) they decide to invest against cheating which increase the difficulty of cheating.

  • how much cheating happens in a game depends on how difficult it is to cheat in that game (money invested by cheats company) versus what are the reward (usually money) they earn from cheats.

The most important reading and conference i went through to made this post was from David Salz, who is Albion Online Chief Technology Officer.

On its blog, he describes some major game design choices made for Albion Online, explain why, the concept and technology behind.

There are several type of cheats, here is my understanding of few of them for Albion Online.

Speed hack

  • What

Enable a player to move on the map faster than what is design and expected by the game.

Main impact is it provides unfair advantage during PvP fight, mobility being a key aspect for winning.

  • How

There are different ways to achieve this hack depending on game design. It could be for example modification of game client process, modification of network packet sent to game server, or exploit using vulnerability on server side or various mix of previous possiblities.

  • Albion Online game design

The full blogpost is here Secrets of Albion Online, Part 1. The game design is called server authority.

Basically, the game server have authority over the game state, meaning that all game world manipulations happen on the server and only the server can decide whether a player action is valid or not. Nothing from the client is trusted.

With this design, this cheat is usually only possible if you find a vulnerability in the server code that are exploited by modifying network packets sent from the client to the server.

Such vulnerability are usually discovered and fixed. Also, such hack are often easily detected thanks to player report.

  • Conclusion

Speed hack are difficult to create due to strong server authority design.
They are very easy to spot when exploited, and thus are often quickly discovered or reported and fixed.

Radar Hack

  • What

Allow player to detect or see game object they are not supposed to see. All MMORPG face this issue.

Main impact is it provides unfair advantage during for ganking or gathering.

Example: see another player wandering on the map off-screen or see a 8.2 stone node somewhere on the map off-screen. Off-screen here means further than what is expected by the game design.

  • How

Radar hack usually inspect / sniff the network packets albion client receives from albion server and analyzes them to find information about game objects like resource node or player. Those information could also be retrieved from the game client processs executed on your computer.

Then renders those information on top of albion screen (overlay). Those information are not displayed by the official game client.

  • Albion Online game design

The full blogpost is here Secrets of Albion Online, Part 2.

The game design is called interest management.

The main step to reduce advantage of radar hack is to send the minimum information to the game client so even by sniffing network packet, no additionnal information can be found compared to what is expected and already displayed by the game client.

Basically, there are two categories of data send from game server to the game client:

1.data of game object required to display what is supposed to be on your screen (things player see)

2.data of game object a bit further off-screen (things player cannot see) that you would be displayed if you move your character in that direction

This second categorie of data enables smooth and seemless roaming when moving while optimizing the data required to be sent to the client. You feel like in an open-world, even if in reality, only your screen and "a bit further" of game information is shared with your game client.

As a concrete example of this game design, you can hear sound from player fighting or mobs that is not seen on your screen, and i think this is the range of this second categories of information used by radar hack.

  • Additionnal though

There might be radar hacks which consolidate data from multiple player (like AOD project for market data), meaning if several users are on the same map using same radar hack data, they could share additionnal information between them.

-If those people are not playing together, they are basically competing against each other for the same ressource on the map, so if someone see more info than expected through this radar hack (a 8.2 stone node for example), it's because someone else is alrealdy near that node, probably already gathering it, thus not providing much advantage.

-If they are together they are splitting the loot. I think this consolidation could only work in open-world or ava roads, but not in mist.

  • Example

Take any video of radar hack, and carefully check when the radar display additionnal information. You can see that game object are displayed when user is getting close to it, nothing appear further. If data is already displayed further on the map, it means this zone was already explored before and last available data are already displayed (but not updated without getting closer).

  • Conclusion

Radar hack can only enable vision a bit further than your screen, not more. I do not know the exact range, could be between 1.2~1.7 of you screen maybe (see also this comment).

As you can hear the sound of this "a bit further" range, it allows you to hear other player gathering, farming mobs, drink invisiblity potion or using ambush, mount dismount ect, so you could maybe react in time (even if the other player is using radar hack).

I think this game design is a trade-off mainly for performance during ZvZ fight. If they reduce this range to your exact screen size it would prevent radar hacked, but with lag and ping i think i would have a lot of bad impact on the gameplay.

Radar hack are very difficult to detect by SBI or by player, and difficult to prevent. But has a limited impact on the game (my opinion).

Botting

  • What

Automate actions on behalf of a human. The game expect that those actions are normally performed by a human.

Main impact is it provides unfair advantage to earn money. In MMO, time is money, and bot can spend much more time doing activities to earn silver than a human.

  • How

Different technical solutions are possible that enable botting, which. Overall it often works in two steps:

First, the bot needs to retrieve information about the game state. This is achieved by scanning network packet sent to the client or be visual detection of game object or scanning the game client process running on your computer.

Example: detect a 8.2 stone node or a mob or detect an enemy player and its position.

Second, based on those information, the bot decides to take actions and send input to change the game state. Inputs could be sent directly to the server (bypassing the game client) or could be sent to the game client itself (like emulating keystroke) or could be sent like a human be physically pressing a keyboard.

Example: click on the 8.2 stone node to start gathering or click on the mob to start attacking it or click on the opposite location of the enemy player to escape.

  • Albion Online game design

Few words from David Salz on botting and cheating.

Anti-cheat program (BattlEye) integrated into Albion Online game client and running on your machine monitor, detect and prevent botting as much as possible.

If a player suspect another player of botting or cheating in general, it can be reported and Albion Online team would analyze this report and take appropriate actions.

  • Additionnal though

As for other cheats, there is a business to provide botting capabilities to cheater player because people are willing to pay for that.

Same on the other side, there is a business to provide protection against cheat in general, botting included.

New anti-cheat software like AnyBrain AI analyzes gameplay behavior and compare it to a defined human behavior to more effectively detect botting than today's solution.

  • Conclusion

With "classic" anti-cheat running as a software on the comptuer, this is in the end a cat and mouse game, where botter and cheater find a way to bypass anti-cheat program, it's at some point detected and anti-cheat program updates, ect..

Some botting and other cheats cannot be detected by "classic" anti-cheat, for example when using DMA (Direct Memory Access) feature or other external hardware between mouse and PC ect.

If you have more information about Albion Online, or about game exploit and cheat, or example of game design from other MMO related to this topic or to correct anything i shared, that would be very interesting, please feel free to share it.

Toxicity, racism, and Albion Online

So, after being in the game for ten days, two things seem rampant in this game, one, toxicity, especially the bigger the guild you get into. I am a member of what's supposed to be one of the friendlier new player big guilds, and during a ZvZ the shotcaller repeatedly made racist comments or alluded to racism and of the 30 plus people present, not one person said anything, and being new and not wanting to be left out in the cold, neither did I, but it kept happening, day after day, and I finally said something during a smaller event, my reward, forever after they changed to calling me a slang for penis. And in case you're wondering this guild does have a "no racism in chat" policy, they just don't follow it.

Toxicity? How about inviting new players to a fame farm, only to remove them from group at the end of the farm, kill them, and take all their loot? Yeah, main guild, big guild, top 10ish guild, doing things like that and there's nothing that says they can't. Reputation isn't important because people stab each other in the back so frequently that the only rule is don't trust anyone. I heard they actually took a guild member on a fame farm, kicked him from the group after they flagged up, then kicked him from the guild and PKed him... again, seems to be normal behavior.

So if you want to know why so many people want a PvE option, it's because we don't want to deal with this kind of sociopathology when we're just playing the game. Yes, racism occurs in PvE games too, but not nearly as much. It seems the kind of sociopath attracted to racism is also attracted to free for all loot games. I got this game to play an updated Ultima Online and it only took me about a week to remember why I voted for the Tamriel update on that game, because the few sociopaths that kill naked people on horses, or insist on repeating the "n" word on discord, or repeatedly refer to the people they're playing against using slang for vaginas, are not the kind of people I want to PvP with or Fame Farm with, however those are the kind of people drawn to the hardcore PvP and dominate it just enough that other people not so inclined say nothing. I'm sure a lot of people have already left for some of the reason's I've posted. I'm sure I'll be downvoted or have this post remove, however I think it needs to be called out, because it's prevalent and just not healthy for the game in the long run.

Tja!

I'm new, is Albion online trending towards P2W?

I'll preface this with, I am being serious. Not some bait post or anything like that.

I picked up Albion a few days ago, I've sunk like 10-15 hours in over those few days so, safe to say I am really enjoying it. The reason I ask is, I have seen A LOT of talk in the ingame global chat talking about how Albion is heading more and more down the road of P2W.

Now, I understand that players in the global chat talking about the state of the game is NEVER a particularly reliable representation. However, I know LITERALLY nothing about the late stages of this game (hell I don't even know anything the about mid stages). So, I can't google the past updates or whats planned, since I have no idea what any of that means when I do.

BUT, this game is CLEARLY a large time sink and premium is pretty helpful I have no doubt. I'm cool with paying for premium, I'm cool with the bonuses that gives, I'm cool with straight up being able to BUY silver even. I'm not cool with much else though, so I don't want to continue investing that time and money sink if the game TRULY is heading down a whale filled, P2W road.

So could you guys, the ones who can actually understand late game systems etc, fill me in?
